Re:DiyPresso: DIY Espresso Machine on Thursday September 12, 2024 @08:46PM (#41527138)
Oh, yes. Look up the Decent DE1 to see what that means.

I will drink moka-pot coffee if that's all that's available, but espresso is what I want to have most days. So I have a good enough grinder and an mid-range espresso machine. It isn't always a success. Sometimes it's sour, sometimes bitter, sometimes too weak. Most of the time I don't have a clue why, so I can't address anything in particular, I can only try changing one of the few variables I can control with my setup, and hope to god that the other ones haven't changed on their own.

People are really serious about consistently producing real good espresso. Control and observability are what these machines offer.

If you want to fall into the rabbit hole Lance Hendrick's YouTube goes in depth into recent research and technique. And James Hoffman is a similar but more approachable source.

Honest question, not a critique: what's the point of passkeys if you already use 1password? It unlocks with touch ID both on computers and phones, it autofills and autogenerates username and password. Plus you've got the option to fall back to manual input if you don't have 1password available in a particular device, and credential sharing (outside of 1p) becomes feasible. What's better about passkeys with 1p?
The second, plus higher amplification of untrustworthy sources due to bad incentives.
You'll be disappointed to learn that we, in fact, do have taste buds everywhere inside our bodies, including the gut, lungs and bladder. Not clear whether there are any in the ass per se, but having experienced no.2 after eating very spicy food, I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't know if the thing they're announcing here is just an extension, but the features mentioned in the article all come included in the pop shell gnome extension.

I hacked a silly sequencer for it some time ago. You can give it a try by following the instructions here:

Ask HN: How will WFH affect existing salaries?

If work from home becomes the standard in software development, and salaries are driven down due to delocation of tech hubs in big cities, how are existing salaries going to be reduced?I get that new remote only jobs will have lower salaries. What about existing permanent contracts? Will companies just start laying off senior people? Will negotiations take place? Without worker unions, this...
