I was in a similar situation with my apartment PTAC unit, but mine has thermostat terminals — I would not be surprised if this one does too. I was able to hook up an Ecobee thermostat, with the downside being that it's way more expensive than OP's solution.
It truly doesn't matter, given Musk waived due diligence. Unless the number of bots is enormous (think 75% or more) then it won't make a material difference.
Depending on your architecture, an API or rendering HTML is an implementation detail, rather than the meat of the application. Have your business logic elsewhere and have the API or controller endpoints call out to those and just do the business of rendering JSON or HTML in the controllers.

(I think this is inversion of control, someone can correct me if I'm wrong)

Re:Waymo will start testing self-driving cars in New York City on Wednesday November 03, 2021 @12:38PM (#29097027)
Sounds more like a great reason to stay away from some of the most chaotic traffic in the US until it can be considered safer. There are far, far more pedestrians in NYC than in Phoenix, and I do not trust a Waymo car to not hit some of them.
Re:Pumps run dry at gas stations in Britain on Monday September 27, 2021 @10:31AM (#28671086)
It absolutely was not the right choice for the UK (not just Britain, don't forget about Northern Ireland). The EU has definitely shown itself to be quick when it needs to be, and in general has improved life for the average person. There are nothing but downsides in the immediate and long-term future for the UK without the EU — these economic consequences are not easily solvable, and the Tories have not shown themselves capable of actually solving these problems.

The UK had a very privileged place in the EU before, and was able to punch above their weight. When they inevitably rejoin they certainly won't be able to hold that special status again.

Re:How we got to LiveView on Wednesday September 22, 2021 @03:50PM (#28620931)
Thanks for your work! One question I had is about when it comes to expanding beyond the web, what are the solutions available with Phoenix? For example, if I'm making a web app using LiveView, do I need to make a second app for my API for an iOS app?
Well, you say that it's one of the nicest companies to work in, but clearly not if 1/3 of their employees are willing to leave over a policy decision. Some of the employees that left had been there for over 15 years — it used to be a good place to work, but this made it untenable for them.
Re:Backblaze is now a Terraform provider on Thursday March 11, 2021 @03:55PM (#26428908)
You could use NixOps[0] for Nix but I'm not sure you can directly compare Terraform and Guix/Nix? My set up involves Terraform for infrastructure and Nix for provisioning, and it's working for me so far.

There was a great Dollop podcast episode about this: https://thedollop.libsyn.com/310-levittown-the-whitest-subur...
Re:A Peek Inside New York's Subway Redesign Plan on Tuesday July 19, 2016 @06:01PM (#12125272)
On underground trains, you have to choose between air conditioning the platforms or the trains. It wouldn't be feasible (especially in old systems like New York or London) to do both because of the lack of ventilation (the hot air needs to go somewhere).
Re:PHP 7 Released on Wednesday December 02, 2015 @07:46AM (#10662601)
That's how it's taught at the college I go to. About half the class already had experience with PHP/MySQL, and were a bit horrified.
Re:Take me as an Intern – 19yo student seeking internship on Wednesday April 29, 2015 @01:43PM (#9460127)
A lot of places won't hire someone full-time for just the summer. I was in the same situation: I could have applied for a full-time job, but I can't be full time once school starts up again.

About 20 months of their $5/mo plan: https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/
Looks like it's time for Wired's annual announcement that "the web is broken".
Re:Show HN: Famous Outfits on Thursday September 04, 2014 @10:57PM (#8272090)
Coolspotters, the site I run, does the exact same thing! We have a big library of celebrities and the clothing they're wearing. http://coolspotters.com
Re:Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on Friday August 22, 2014 @03:01PM (#8213450)
My philosophy of science teacher turned me onto this site last semester and it was really quite invaluable. The amount of thought and work that is put into each article is amazing, and it certainly helped me understand topics I would not have otherwise.
Re:Ask HN: 16-hour work week jobs? on Sunday July 06, 2014 @02:30PM (#7995225)
This concept is great for students especially. I'm lucky enough to have a job where I can set my own hours, so during the school year I can work about this much. It's nice to have some income, especially while working a job relevant to my field of study.

There's a large orange "Download" button directly to the right of the document.
Re:CityMapper – Point to Point City Directions on Thursday May 08, 2014 @02:56PM (#7716976)
I love Citymapper when I'm in NYC. Hands down the best mapping app.
Re:Why I Don't Drink on Saturday April 26, 2014 @11:42PM (#7653842)
This hits the nail on the head for me. I'm a college student in the US right now, and drinking is a big part of the "college experience". I don't like drinking — that's not to say I don't every once in a while (think once every two months), I just don't really enjoy it like other people do. It makes me uncomfortable that I'd be around other people I potentially don't know without all my faculties.

I think it's just a control thing for me — I don't want to lose control of myself and do stupid things. Even normally, I'm super self-aware, and that'd just get worse with alcohol.
