I just return a customized Exception type. Works about the same.
There should be a third option: allow but give fake data

And it should be default.

I always wondered what happens if presenting LLMs with source code that symbols were too confusing/misleading.

Sees already the case.

I recently learned that NN layers talk to each other via unused neurons.

Stackoverflow wasn't killed by AI, it's long dead because of those "Closed Question" bummbers.

I've never seen an online community incentives vandalism rather than contributions.

Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:03AM (#50259550)
I don't think all websites should be printable.

hypertext should be printable.

hypermedia should be highly interactive.

Re:I built a programming language that LLMs can't use on Sunday October 18, 2026 @10:18PM (#50147614)
If you $LANG has a compiler or grammar checker, then it's a reward that LLM can learn.
Web standards is a lie. Browser vendors just take down stuff because they don't bother.

Re:JPEG XL vs. AVIF for web use-cases on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:15AM (#50129320)
An image codec can be run in a sandboxed way, with a preset cpu/ram boundary, the output is rastered pixels, how could this not be "safe"?

There are dozens of .wasm based image encoder/decoders outthere, no?

It's not like it could access network or IO, unlike extensions do, which could steal your data after authors sell their popular extension and buys profits from stealing data from installed users.

Re:JPEG XL vs. AVIF for web use-cases on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:51AM (#50128906)
> gives us more code to maintain, increases the binary size

In that case, don't nanny everything as a monolith. Let formats/codecs can be installed as extension/plugin.

For example I really want to webrtc to f' off, I can't. I can't even disable it for a particular site like microphone permissions. It sucks!

And to my knowledge, webrtc stack is so much more complicated than an image format, so many sites trying to grab my private IP using webrtc. yet every browser vendor are happy to support it!

WHy? Browsers should have supported plethora of formats!

Re:Neural Networks Are Already Clean on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:44PM (#50113811)
by clean it means the opposite of "messy"

That's the picture under "some are both dogs and cars" in the artcle

It's actually a clean shape, if you disregard the color and texture.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:16PM (#50113070)
They are both terrible.

The old Steam native UI is better.

The best UI I've ever seen is the 2MB Spotify by Ludvig Strigeus (author of µTorrent, @ludde on HN). Instant open, instant play!

Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:19AM (#50100375)
Because a short, precise conclusion would only give you negative feedbacks. Too many viewers and critics jump to argument without much thinking.

Writing in defensive style is a tactical choice.

For those not aware, Iosevka is the font that gives you perfec vertical alignment in monospace tables/flowcharts with CJK/emojis.
Re:Felix Rieseberg Homepage on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:08AM (#50084599)

It's a runtime issue. .swf format is highly optimized, but it was poorly ported to iOS at that time. Adobe didn't even try.

Also the observation is kinda biased. Reimplement the same kind of animation with h5, you'd drain your battery quickly and eat your cpu0 as well. Webkit made lots of optimizations during the years.

H5 animations performs much worse on all devices.

Flash animations like Felix's can run well on a Pentium III processor with 64MB memory.
