Re:Stoop Coffee: A simple idea transformed my neighborhood on Wednesday March 26, 2025 @07:31AM (#43481013)
This seems so foreign for someone living in Norway. The "what kind of weirdo are you" - vibe would be so real if someone did this.
Re:Porting My JavaScript Game Engine to C for No Reason on Sunday August 04, 2024 @05:22PM (#41156430)
Remember I was working on an impact.js game 10 years ago. Just can't seem to find the source code! First time I hired a guy to create some graphics. Very inspiring gaming platform.
Re:10 Years of Meteor on Wednesday June 29, 2022 @03:42AM (#31917485)
Used to churn out so many side-projects on meteor. My first application was a chat application, that our teams ended up using on several projects (this was before slack).

I remember that the effortless hosting they had setup was a dream. Still have never got that feeling again from any project.

Fantastic! just discovered all of your music on spotify, and shared it.

Less takes forever to compile. It does.
Re:Material UI on Monday November 10, 2014 @02:45PM (#8585786)
I think it's just lazy when a page like this that doesn't have media queries. Seriously.
Re:AMC movie theater calls FBI to arrest a Google Glass user on Tuesday January 21, 2014 @02:55AM (#7093998)
Must be horrible to live in a country where police can and do abuse you like this. 3rd world. Are you all out to get each other?
Re:Show HN: Tablo – Create and publish books socially on Monday November 18, 2013 @06:42AM (#6753834)
There's some encoding issues here. Can't write æøå, which is important letters in the norwegian language.

And it is seriously slow now, might be where it's been deployed, might be that I'm waiting for googleadservices on each page load. Might be the hug of death from hn.

Haha, I made the a comment about something related to this the other day.

Funny how things just spring to life.

"Here's an even cooler idea: instead of listing emerging ideas, ,and beta projects, what about creating a website service for finishing almost done apps (alpha projects if you like). That would be a more interesting list. People could upload their started, but not finished projects and outline what's left. There must be millions of good ideas that has been started, but never finished due to the fact that the developer didn't find the problem interesting anymore. Specialize in one thing, like iphone-apps."

Re:"Accidentally" Freelance on Thursday August 01, 2013 @02:27AM (#6138978)
At least in Norway, the pay is also about 30% higher without the need of a administration. So there's that too. Instead of saying freelance, say independent contractor.

Yes, that's real mature. Thanks. Well well.
Re:Responsive Web Design – Advanced Lesson on Tuesday January 22, 2013 @06:36AM (#5096601)
I think most pages are interested in getting a reasonable view in mobile. From my experience the cheapest and best way is to use media queries and say for everything with a viewport less than 700px, let the divs get a 100% in width. Add that to you base.css and it should already be 100x better for your customers/users.
Re:A Letter from Tim Cook on Maps on Friday September 28, 2012 @03:45PM (#4587440)
Probably is really nice to be on the apple-map-team team right now. They get pushed in delivering something, then probably gets a nice "you suck and you should feel bad for making us look bad"-reception from everyone. I don't know about you guys, but I for one think someone ought to give these guys a pat on the back and a pitcher of beer with a note saying "this too shall pass".

Re:Free Book: An Introduction to Programming in Go on Tuesday September 04, 2012 @04:22AM (#4473650)
It's nice, but I wish there was a summary page of the syntax. As an experienced coder, I don't really need to understand the concept of a map, only how it's done in go, and maybe restrictions.
Re:The 10 Best Startups From Y Combinator’s S12 Demo Day on Wednesday August 22, 2012 @04:34AM (#4416521)
Huh, we've had something like bufferbox in Norway for years now(I think). Don't know how popular it is though.
Re:Ask HN: Why not Java? on Tuesday August 21, 2012 @03:21PM (#4414272)
I've used it _alot_ especially for scripting. Really powerful support for quickly write dynamic code to run transformations, connect to db's, connect to mq's etc. It's easier to read than python (for me) and you can just drop a lib in groovy_home for support to whatever dbdriver (like oracle). Seriously give it a go, before you call it senseless. But you know, use what you know and what you can be effective with to solve a given problem.
Re:Ask HN: Why not Java? on Monday August 20, 2012 @01:21AM (#4406387)
Rigth tool for the right job is key here. I personally like to add Groovy to the devops list.

Re:ReFiddle: Fiddle for Regexp testing on Thursday June 21, 2012 @10:10AM (#4142029)
Why do you say regex's are hacks? Aren't they nice to use in order to search and replace text? It's really powerful!
Re:ReFiddle: Fiddle for Regexp testing on Thursday June 21, 2012 @08:36AM (#4141658)
I use sublime text for this. Considering how many regexes I write a day, I actually need a text editor that has this support. Don't you ? :)
Harvestapp has a timer and manually doing it.

What would be a cool feature, is if you could use the gps as the timetracker. You were at the location 10 hours, how many do you want to bill etc.

Just an idea :) Simplicity is nice, but lots of your competitors have that already. What sets you aside?

Re:Where can I find great/new programming tech talks? on Monday April 18, 2011 @01:31AM (#2458092)
parleys.com has a decent amount of videos, focusing mainly on java.

The key binding is the same as in biolab disaster. And it sort of looks the same. But awesome-awesome. Multiplayer coming soon?
