Re:GUIs should be fully keyboard-driven on Friday August 28, 2026 @12:43PM (#49481138)
I think we should also be finding ways to make things keyboard-driven that currently require a mouse. My side project is a keyboard centric flowchart editor which tries to merge the two between something typically 2D with pixel coordinates (normal flowchart software) and fitting it into a grid that has discrete coords so you can navigate with arrow keys.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026) on Sunday August 09, 2026 @09:49PM (#49238345)
A grid-based flowchart editor designed for speed. It’s optimized for the keyboard with a spreadsheet-like selection and movement mechanism.

I started working on it because I was tired of dragging boxes/arrows around in Miro while making dependency graphs for planning projects.

A while back I did a Show HN about it, and have since rewrote and changed the concept a bit to be easier to use.

Re:Ask HN: What has your personal website/blog done for you? on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @09:29AM (#49168715)
I like to write because it helps me think through something that I’m curious about. And when I post it on HN I get a bunch of people who will help discuss and research it more which is super fun.

A keyboard-driven flowchart editor. This is a re-incarnation of a previous attempt. I’m still working on autolayout but I’m much happier with this version:

Ask HN: How do you model temporarily invalid data structures

Say you’re making a chess game. A valid board only has one piece per square, or zero. But, you have an algo that generates boards by moving pieces around and during that algo you may move a piece on top of another and then later decide to move one of them to get back to valid.Do you try to use some existing Board type and just avoid in your algo those invalid states (like by using a stack or...

Thank you! Will take a look

Ask HN: iPhone 17 buggy for anyone else?

From slow responses to taps, janky UI artifacts, weird animations that dont quite match up. Tapping on a photo in messages has an obvious half second delay before it opens.I upgraded from an old XS and this doesnt feel any snappier.Possibly its just bugs in the new OS that need to be ironed out?

Ask HN: What is the most impressive test suite youve ever worked with

Did it have near 100% coverage or did it make tradeoffs on what to test?Did it include UI tests which are notoriously difficult, and if so how did it handle issues like timeouts and the async nature of UI?Did it have rigid separation of concepts between unit vs integration tests etc, or more fluid?Could you refactor internal code without changing tests — the holy grail.

In a good work environment you’ll have some telepathy with your product people and you wont have to communicate every minor change, which wastes time. Its similar to implementing a UI design — you and the designer will develop a relationship where you dont need to communicate every pixel, you fill in the blanks and show results, repeat.

Re:Ask HN: Would you want to start a Slack for job seekers on Sunday December 15, 2024 @04:34PM (#42426141)
I was thinking one server and just for job seekers. Like a support group for people looking for tech jobs.

Maybe there could be channels per role/level, like #backend-senior, #ml-junior. So you could discuss hiring process and get tips from people looking for similar roles.

Ask HN: Slack Community for Job Seekers?

When Ive been job searching I’ve thought it would be nice to discuss the process, what to study, etc with other job seekers in the same industry. There could be channels based on role, level etc.If you think you’d be interested, message me (below) or drop your info [email protected] https://x.com/ScottyAntipa

Very cool. It would be great to have auto complete across cells.

Interesting, do you have a source?

Ask HN: Naming convention for a percentage stored as a value from 0 to 1

Say you’re storing a percentage like “state tax”. You store it as a decimal: 0.4 means 40%. What do you call this type when you need to name a db column or a variable? Technically it is not a percent until you * 100.“Decimal fraction” seems most correct but is very verbose. No one is writing taxRateDecimalFraction as a var name.

Re:Ask HN: Whats your favorite book on API design? on Monday January 15, 2024 @03:57PM (#39006016)
Thanks. Im interested in a book that explored more advanced design patterns. Like, supporting copying a resource. Or supporting —dry-run type functionality for requests that have side effects.
