Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: Python (ML, Django/DRF), JS (NodeJS, ReactNative, Typescript), Java, AWS, GCP

I'm a full-stack engineer (preferably backend) with some experience in ML. I started with 7+ yrs as SWE at Google as a full stack engineer and then took a bit of lengthy career break and got into ML. In recent years I've been more comfortable working at startups but I'm open to anything in between. I'm not yet "established" in the Australian job market so I'm looking to spend a few solid years with an Aussie company where I can have impact. I'm most comfortable as an individual contributor but also willing to step up if/when needed.

For someone new-ish to Sydney without much of a network, where should I be looking, if not the usual job boards?

Just to be clear, are we talking about AUD$ or USD$? (Asking as an ex-FAANG who is preparing for job hunting in Sydney)

But you're right. The company/team matters and the viability of the startup matters. Though I have no idea how to estimate how their funding will turn out in the future...

Ask HN: Should I take a Data/ML job at a startup that doesn't yet have data

After 7 years of frontend web app experience, I'm switching careers to ML/DataScience and looking for that first job to get my foot in the door. I recently spoke to a founder of a very early-stage startup. (I don't have any experience working with startups either.) They seem to have their frontend work outsourced to a team in another country but their core product will eventually depend...

Re:Self-Compassion Works Better Than Self-Esteem on Friday May 12, 2017 @06:30AM (#14322769)
> Self-compassion/kindness is when you become your own sustainable bloodsource of self-esteem and it is critical for your survival and success.

I think this is the opposite of what the article was saying. The article says that instead of looking for "self-esteem" from your successes (and avoiding failures), you should stop chasing self-esteem altogether, and instead choose self-compassion.

> it is critical for your survival and success

I think the article is trying to say "It's okay not to succeed, go easy on yourself."
