I'm interested in this as well. Also what kind of news outlets? I find that traditional news media is often behind a community of insiders if you can find them on Twitter or something like it.
Why all the towns? You must really like the format

Check out Adam's "What if infrastructure as code never existed" talk from a month or two ago. Great framing for SI and entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lPa2U239C4

Or- great work to Google for maintaining a product that has waned in popularity and not killing it off!
I'm a sveltekit user and the default SSR really complicated adding a chart library. Would Unovis work with SSR? Appreciate the Svelte support!

"but for reasons that are unclear, the [traditional] antibiotics don't work for up to 20% of people with the tick-borne illness"

This is very exciting for a group of people that have felt forgotten and ignored by the medical industry

I'm surprised they didn't list testing the effectiveness of advertising as a use case.
Re:Hash – Complex Systems Simulation on Saturday December 07, 2019 @11:33PM (#21734352)
Sounds like it is mostly business operations and organizational planning concerns. From the solutions page...

Here are a few problems the community is working on:

Cloud infrastructure orchestration

Sales team remuneration

Mergers and acquisitions

Price sensitivity and revenue

Warehouse operations

Fleet efficiency

Supply chain risk

Macroeconomic policy

Call center operations

Store design/layout

Critical national infrastructure

Evacuation planning

Political risk

Marketing campaign efficiency

Public health

3 interviewers in a single 10 minute interview, correct?

Surprised they don't have 2 for 15 or 1 for 30 min.

Talking about Dev.to on HN feels strange. Maybe I'm on the wrong forum.
Re:Layers in Software: From Data to Value on Thursday November 07, 2019 @02:00PM (#21476194)
Summarized well by these lines:

> Back in the day, front end, back end, operations, and DBAs separated because they needed different skills. Now we accept that a software team needs all the skills. We group by responsibility instead — responsibility for business value, not for activities

> We once layered by serving data to software. Now we layer by serving value to people.

This is a nice narrative for the rise of developer products, where there used to not be a market.

Re:New – Savings Plans for AWS Compute Services on Thursday November 07, 2019 @12:19AM (#21470642)
Getting a way out by selling your RIs was important due to there inflexibility. I think those who feel they may want that could opt for the compute plan which is useful as long as you use EC2 in any form.
Re:New – Savings Plans for AWS Compute Services on Thursday November 07, 2019 @12:17AM (#21470632)
How I is it less flexible? The compute plan is certainly more flexible as it can be used on any region and any instance type, right?
Re:New – Savings Plans for AWS Compute Services on Thursday November 07, 2019 @12:16AM (#21470628)
The compute plan is a big deal (meaning important not cost break although that too). The inflexibility of RIs really hurts and makes it hard to actually benefit from the savings. This doesn't quite match Google's approach but it is much simpler to understand.
Re:CRDT: Conflict-free replicated data type on Wednesday November 06, 2019 @07:52PM (#21469356)
I've been researching these recently. Some things I've found: - Macrometa is a new startup and stateful edge (distributed database) service. I just tried them this morning. User experience is very raw but it works great. You can shim it in front of existing DBs (Dynamo, Firebase, etc) for better performance. - Gun: where macrometa runs on edge servers, Gun runs on the client. Mark is a fantastic community and they are doing interesting things. I had trouble implementing it but that's because I'm lousy at javascript. - Redis uses CRDTs or something similar: https://redislabs.com/redis-enterprise/technology/active-act... - This presentation is fantastic: https://www.infoq.com/presentations/crdt-distributed-consist...
Re:Adam Neumann will determine WeWork's fate on Monday October 21, 2019 @10:38PM (#21319912)
They are buying control, no? Neumann sold economic interest (non voting equity) to Soft Bank earlier. Now they want the voting power and they are offering him 200M for it. It has to be worth something. It sounds like it is unclear if that is enough (although if they are reporting it I assume it is) for him to agree.
