meh, we still have to wait for Proton's response before taking the story circulating at face value
It's not like Proton has had so many security breaches like we've been constantly seeing hit so many other sites in other posts (I don't think?), nor that they have so many other problems that exist at other companies
Hoping people keep perspective and that Proton bounces back even better with adaptations to named criticisms
Many industries (medicine, law, engineering, etc.) need huge "deregulation" shakeups; massive expensive legal and financial grifts going on
Yeah I'd definitely want to hear the other side of the story before jumping to conclusions on that "biased attack piece" that made its rounds (it's very possible Proton is indeed in the wrong and can be fairly criticized, but I've seen enough conflicts like this where I want to hear what the other side says before rushing to judgment, especially about a tech company which was otherwise liked by a lot on HN it seems)
Monetization death spiral?
wishing you and others luck
if something happens, it's probably not your fault?
Looks like a smear post, easy for anyone to do
Should wait for and read Proton response before taking it seriously
tbh I feel these headlines are kind of sensationalized, it's just about how you use AI, and that determines if it is beneficial for you or not
Anything like how the internet or search engines or telephone operators (lol) "change your brain" articles I guess could be written ("Why didn't you just manualy memorize or look up a phone number yourself, what, do you want to download a brainrot?!")
yep, they changed from the archived article I linked from vox.com to a NY Times article link. (I only posted the archive link I did because it was a wall on vox and I couldn't read article otherwise)
I think there's been a pushback on this view lately, that this is only one factor to consider or that the studies leading to this kind of conclusion are flawed?
Sometimes I wonder how many resources things like AI actually save rather than consume (I don't see that reported on as much)
Tobacco is a nootropic
Social media is a powerful tool for sharing and obtaining info
Poison is the dose
ITT we can maybe discuss effective alternatives to strikes
> start alternative better businesses or work for them
> encourage work reforms in society like remote work / 4 day work weeks
> write in
it never should have had any place, it never made sense, it's always created more problems than it solved
> the title
sounds bad...
> the article: "pirated the work of over 10 Stanford professors to train its Claude models"
that just... doesn't seem like much compared to so much other scraping though, right?
> The surprise result defied polls, precedent and went against the rightward trend that's been sweeping across Latin America.
...so this will play in to Bolsonaro's claims the election was "stolen" then probably, if the polls heavily favored him?
Wouldn't use the extension but I like the metaphor of unread tabs being like overgrown weeds
yeah it's kind of weird because some old mac laptops I've used were easy to work with and put on third party software (Linux), but the things like ipads and iphones not so much...
edit: it's like... just give us the same option for the ipads / iphones please?
I share your sentiments but I wonder realistically how far we are from AI just "jailbreaking all the things", rendering the conversation moot
Like they can try to lock some things down, and some of those barriers we may not be able to get around, but how much of enough of them will we be able to circumvent?
Ideally this would probably not affect newer hardened devices but could unlock a bunch of older otherwise "unusable" hardware that functionally is "e-waste" currently
Hoping more "unsupported" older "iDevices" can be made usable with newer software with something like "jailbreaking"
Alternatively the duopoly hard block might push linux mobile development in to overdrive (with AI assistance?)

from the ask-hn dept.
An idea has circulated that a lot of us are just privately building software for our own projects without sharing the buildWe could however share the ideas of what we're building so that other people could build sometime similar to fill their own needs or the ideas could be incorporated in to other projectsA lot of random things come to mind for me, like I started (but for now abandoned) some...
add another wheel on the other side of the drill for a kind of sidecar-like stability? (tricycle style?)
Unfortunately a lot of government meddling in education and industry has continued to prop up academia as we know it, however maybe it will be different "this time" with AI
Used to love Ubuntu but they dropped X11 support so I'm out
(I'm fine with Wayland for those who want it but it still breaks things I've used)
I've been wondering about an automated way to do this and also wondering why they don't make more half doses for some of these pills people need chopped up
Meanwhile I'm over here probably wanting to play offline solo games I can "cheat" more in (sometimes unlimited health is a fun feature or other "cheat codes")
I think part of the problem in that instance, might be "success" being necessary but not sufficient for "surviving and thriving"; and unfortunately sometimes that isn't explained along the way to even people who become conventionally successful (but, perhaps we can try to improve an awareness of the issue going forward for future gens)
