32g is not a day's worth, not even by the low standards of the USDA.
Just for some perspective, that "reporter" was Bill O'Reilley, and Russia wanted Fox News to apologize for the statement.
Isn't it also pretty tough to get citizenship in NZ? I looked into it years ago, and while both my wife and I are skilled professionals (Physical Therapist and Programmer, respectively), we weren't eligible. Though part/most of that was being overweight.

The reverse is also true, if you take too much Zinc, you'll get deficient in Copper.
Re:Hollywood as We Know It Is Over on Monday January 30, 2017 @04:15PM (#13525093)
I was this way with books too. I went through several phases where I just couldn't get into a good series, but could read "stand alone" books all day long. These days, I feel like just as I get to know the characters, the story is over.

Enjoying both, I find myself leaning toward the "drawn out" stories, because they let me interact with characters that I like, for much longer periods.

At first I was annoyed at how TV series seem to have gone from 20+ episodes a season to down to as few as 8 per season (less than 4 in some cases, IIRC), but the almost "mini-series" style of shorter seasons makes less filler, but without the rush a movie has.

Impressive! I had a little over 2,000 books years ago. I got mine in a similar way, I'd purchase lots of books on ebay for < 1.00 a book, and would go to those used book stores and trade them in (2 for 1) for books I wanted. I did this between the ages of 19 and 25 or so, at which point I went away to college and didn't want to move them with me so I donated some to a friend and some to a library.
I much prefer starting earlier and getting done earlier. A lot of this has to do with my schedule vs the babysitter's (my parents) schedule, but getting done at 3pm is a great feeling. Getting up at 4am (and starting work at 6am) isn't always fun, but I'm a bit of an early bird anyway.
Re:You Will Soon Be Able to Buy a Car at Walmart on Monday January 23, 2017 @12:24PM (#13463835)
Can't you just order a car online, on the car manufacturers website? I've not yet done it, but I have built a few custom vehicles, to checkout out options and configurations. I've done it on Nissan's website, as well as GMC, Chevy, Audi, and Jeep.

Is there further haggling on the price once you have your car custom built and shipped to the dealer?

Travellers, as well as Continuum, makes me a bit nostalgic for the old show Time Trax.

Do you have a site for this 20 years ago claim? The first I've seen is one about 10 years ago, in the UK.
Holy crap, is this what cops whisper to themselves overnight to make them feel better about killing people constantly? They aren't dealing with wild west, quick draw experts here. There was a guy with a pocket knife in Seattle awhile back that got executed by a cop because he was whittling (and deaf in the ear the cop was talking to him). Do you think that cop that that he was some ninja knife thrower that could make an accurate throw within milliseconds?

When driving, traveling at 60mph, you have 10+ milliseconds to react, often that's not enough time. However, if you have a gun trained on me, with your freaking finger on the trigger, and it takes about 10ms to pull it, There is no way the typical meth head can whip out a holstered gun and shoot 2-3 people before you can squeeze that hair trigger. The fact that cops want put push that as the "fact of the matter" is sad, and pathetic. Go ahead and keep justifying your murder.

Truth be told, most cops are probably scared shitless because your bosses push this bullshit about millisecond accuracy and military precision in thought and action, and it's your bosses that really cause this death-toll, it's best you just quit repeating their crap and focus on reality.

Re:Disassembling Sublime Text on Monday December 05, 2016 @09:49AM (#13105627)
I switched to VSCode just for my Typescript projects, and really like it. Main reason I switched was that in Sublime you can hide JS and map files, but it always hides them. With VSCode you can have logic in your config, so you can hide JS files, only if a TS file with the same name exists, that way I don't have to switch config when I'm looking for a js file particularly, and can keep my sidebar clean and show only files I need to edit.
Re:How to get the wine you really want on Saturday November 05, 2016 @01:15AM (#12878301)
For vodka, this is why I seek out actual russian imports, and I have a strong preference for potato distilled vodka. Unfortunately, finding these are few and far between, so grain it is. Still, when that's the case, I go for cheap vodka, and there's quite a strong difference there too. I'm talking 750ml for 7-8 dollars, some is just undrinkable, others are smoother than smirnoff (also not high end, just comparing to a well known, marketed as highish end).
Re:Everything about the state of the Mac on Monday October 31, 2016 @09:33AM (#12836521)
I use a 2013 MBPro and own a 2015 Mac Mini, but wanted something portable to play video games. I had all of the main requirements you had too, with the added requirement that it could power a 2k monitor on Fallout 4 at the highest setting.

The only thing I found that let me configure it online, and met the requirements (would have preferred more than 16GB of RAM though), was the HP Omen.

Edit: It comes with a 4k screen, which I downgraded to 1080p (Mostly used on monitor), but also wish it had a 2k downgrade option. Mac's Retina resolution is just about perfect, and not really a fan of 4k yet, also on a 15 inch screen it seems a waste.

It's a tiny bit of a stretch to call it a whine, but it's old when it's brought up constantly, tbh.

Re:The Anti-Helicopter Parent’s Plea: Let Kids Play on Wednesday October 19, 2016 @05:16PM (#12747746)
Huh, did you go to my school? I had the same thing happen. The summer of graduation, even. There were crazy rumors of it not even being an accident. He was actually a fairly close friend of mine and I was away at boot camp.

I also had an aquantance of mine die in 5th grade. Him and two of his brothers drown when the ice broke on a pond they were playing on[0]. But that's it, out of all of the people I know from school and church, all the way growing up, not just my age peers. At least, those that I heard of.

Yet, the British still use "stone" to measure their weight, then complain about universal standards not being used by the Americans.
Re:Gene Wilder Has Died on Monday August 29, 2016 @09:37PM (#12386801)
I did not know that, it's interesting to know. However, Mel Brooks did direct it, and I wonder how genius it would have been without his direction.
Re:4WD vs. AWD. What's the Difference? on Saturday August 27, 2016 @06:08PM (#12374390)
Odd, here in Washington, 4WD/AWD get exemptionss[0]. However, my dad, who drives a 4WD, bought chains because he was told 4WD do not get an exemption, so there seems to be some confusion. The WSDOT site clearly says both are exempt though.

Re:Planet Found in Habitable Zone Around Nearest Star on Saturday August 27, 2016 @11:38AM (#12372778)
Pitch Black's planet situation reminded me of Nightfall (Asimov/Silverberg)[0], though there weren't six suns like in the book, and the occurrence of the "night" in the movie seemed to be shorter increments?

If you set `i` as a constant it can't be changed, so it'll always remain 0. (the loop will end immediately after the first iteration with an error so no infinite loop)
I know a water treatment plant worker, two plumbers, and an electrician in the Kansas City area, and they all make as much, if not more than my programming contemporaries. For instance, a friend tried to get me to work at Cerner for ~75-80k (good money in the Midwest), but those plumbers were making that plus some (45 dollars an hour, so in some cases would make more depending on overtime), the Electrician worked for himself and though I don't know his yearly earnings, he was making closer to 60/hr (based on a quote to install a ceiling fan, and since he was a HS buddy, he probably gave me a discount). The wastewater plant worker? He's a manager now making 100k or so, but started out at 60k, not bad for the midwest as well.

I'd not trade my cushy, indoor job for that, mind you, just the idea that trade workers necessarily make peanuts, I believe, is without merit.

My wife is a Physical Therapist. She put her resume on Career Builder (after graduation) on a Sunday Night before bed (11pm-ish), by 7am already had two voicemails, and had more than 8 more voicemails by noon Monday.

Just a data point, but it happens to other fields as well. Also, FWIW, she's making about 80k and if she commuted into Seattle, I see jobs posted there for 100-110k quite frequently, for non-managerial positions as a PT. She claims she could make more (at least hourly) as Home Health or a inpatient retirement home type of situation, but likes outpatient too much.

Granted, that's about it, unless she opens her own clinic or goes into management, where as 110k in Seattle gives me some room for salary growth. She also doesn't get other compensation so my point is more about demand of PTs being pretty comparable.

Re:You Don’t Have “Plenty of Time” on Saturday August 06, 2016 @12:24AM (#12237012)
This guy has good points, but he thinks 2007 was "way before facebook?" I thought I was a late joiner at late 2005 / early 2006, and I was 28 at the time; it seems pretty clueless to think 2007 was anything like 'before' facebook, let alone 'way before' Facebook.
Re:Thoughts on Uber’s List of Postgres Limitations on Wednesday August 03, 2016 @11:40AM (#12218730)
It can work with MariaDB as well, though it's just a Fork of MySQL so hard to say if that counts.
Re:Angular 2 Fundamentals Course on Friday July 29, 2016 @02:02PM (#12188629)
Angular 2 uses Typscript which did come out of Microsoft.
I switched to VirtualBox from Parallels, and I agree that it's clunky in comparison (got tired of having to put in a purchase request every time they upgraded). I have to run IIS and MSSQL, unfortunately, and until I can use those with Docker, I think I'm stuck.

I think when Windows Nano Server is available I'll give it a try, my Win7 image is almost 70GB...

I went to a state College (Mizzou) and everybody I knew that was in a CS degree took a Haskell course.
