I keep hearing from friends and seniors that Gen Z doesn't take accountability for their work, and the sentiments the author has shared in this article are dot to dot relatable. I really don't care that they lack grammar and prefer short words (no cap fr fr), low attention span is just irritating and hard to deal with.
Re:The GTA III port for the Dreamcast has been released on Thursday January 02, 2025 @09:13AM (#42574564)
n00b/serious question - What's the point of these ports?
Outbox Pattern is just that. Put a connecter (e.g Golden Gate for Oracle DB or Debezium) and get it done.

Keeps things simple and reliable.

The only drawback we saw was that there will be few second of latency as system scale; if that doesn't matter

> One of India’s concerns is that once EU makes the shift, obsolete phones and equipment could be dumped in India, a second official said.

India always have been a huge market for slightly old models; which are more affordable. Anyone who wants an iPhone can't afford the latest because of the price tag.

Never read a better summary before -

> These domains are strongly associated with fraudulent activities and high-risk investments which take advantage of people who are suffering from economic hardship and growing global wealth inequality. Few to no legitimate use-cases for this technology have been found; instead it is mostly used for fraudulent “get rich quick” schemes and to facilitate criminal activity, such as ransomware, illicit trade, and sanctions evasion. These projects often encourage large-scale energy waste and electronics waste, which contributes to the declining health of Earth’s environment. The presence of these projects on SourceHut exposes new victims to these scams and is harmful to the reputation of SourceHut and its community.

I'm going to send this to everyone who I know is involved in crypto/blockchain.

My normal screen looks weird (opposite to zoomquilt; everything is zooming out from the edges).

Is that normal?

Re:Apple Announces App Store Small Business Program on Wednesday November 18, 2020 @11:43PM (#25146299)
I like how tax brackets are in India.

250k-500k - 5% 500k-1000k - 20% 1000k- ∞ - 30% (figures in INR)

the brackets varies every FY, but are same more or less.

It doesn't discriminate with border cases.

I joined a new company recently (during pandemic; July). The onboarding was not so smooth. I was constantly following up here and there to get things done (e.g access to tools with IT), more importantly to get to the part with whom do I need to follow up and how to follow up; figuring this out was another follow up.

I created an onboarding guide last week (for my team) which was a very small thing for me (created a document on confluence in an hour). But the amount of response I got was overwhelming (IMO bit too much compared to how i expected to be yet-another-document).

Re:macOS unable to open any non-Apple application on Friday November 13, 2020 @02:36AM (#25079969)
Initially I noticed this behaviour on my work laptop (where I've joined recently); where I was able to get the app working as soon as I used to switch my location to Home (non-VPN/Proxy). I though it has something to do with work configuration.

For past few days I'm also experiencing the similar behaviour on my personal laptop.

Re:Notion.clone: open-source notes editor like in Notion on Thursday November 12, 2020 @05:48AM (#25068531)
Does it work offline?
The iPhone has a very smooth process of upgrading the phone. You turn on the new iPhone next to your old one, it prompts and voila. It's like upgrading hardware of your current phone.

I'm unsure if we're at a point where these things are even feasible. e.g I have configured my MBP a lot, the .zsh file, home directory and endless configuration.

I would not be surprised if they ditch the kernal completely, and make everything an App (much like chromebook)

Re:Send Payments in India with WhatsApp on Sunday November 08, 2020 @01:21PM (#25027624)
So far, they are only covering P2P cases. Not payments to vendor/shop/businesses, which requires scanning a QR code.
Re:IBM is splitting itself into two public companies on Thursday October 08, 2020 @02:03PM (#24721897)
Remind me of the Andrew's Intel story, when they decided to stop focusing on memory and moved entirely to building micro-processor, which worked out pretty-pretty well for them.

Looks like it's best of both word situation for IBM.

Re:iOS 14 is available today on Thursday September 17, 2020 @01:23AM (#24501469)
Seems more like a bug
Re:iOS 14 is available today on Thursday September 17, 2020 @01:18AM (#24501443)
Took them a pandemic worth of phone usage to realize how irritating this was. When lockdown/WFH started, my company was using Google Meet, and everytime there is an incoming call it used to go full screen completely blocking for whatever purpose I was using the phone (or what ever I was hearing or saying). Though Zoom integrates with Call feature (not sure what's the technical term for it), whenever there is an incoming call between a zoom call it used to go in waiting.
Re:iOS 14 is available today on Thursday September 17, 2020 @01:13AM (#24501419)
I had screentime widget on my home page. I doubt if it's even 5 minute. I had to tap and open the screentime to force update it every time. This was in Beta though, I hope this will work fine in normal update.

Yes. AGMR dues was exactly that, which had put Vodafone-Idea to the being bankrupt.

Additional to this, can some one help with this -

* Under GDPR, user can request for it's account deletion where we have to delete all the user's reference. If a user signup again there would be no way whether it is the same malicious user, how to overcome this?

Re:Why we won’t be supporting Sign in with Apple on Tuesday June 30, 2020 @03:58AM (#23687782)
Having a user name solve this. Github collaboration works the same way.
Re:Why we won’t be supporting Sign in with Apple on Tuesday June 30, 2020 @03:57AM (#23687773)
Not all.

1. Apple obfuscate email - this complicates the support system, and as per them Apple hadn't thought about it thoroughly. Collaboration is obstructed. Password recovery is not an easy process. 2. Cross Platform - The post states that Apple vaguely says that sign in on Android is possible, but doesn't state how it is to be done.

Re:Grab Asks Staff to Take No-Pay Leave to Cut Costs on Friday May 01, 2020 @08:38AM (#23041383)
Softbank backed OYO has done the same thing. While these kind of leaves are voluntary on paper, they are the only option offered. Formally company present this option to you, you show interest, you accept what they are offering.

Informally, the company asks you to accept whatever they are offering. You can always resist, you're very much likely to have the legal advantage. But you don't want to go through the trouble.

Edit - the only good part of the offer was 0 day notice period. They are betting on major chunk of employees to not come back, so they can bring back the one who are left (IMO 80% will leave)

I do this on iTerm CMD + Shift + E

Is it the same or something different?

Re:If you're busy, you're doing something wrong (2011) on Friday November 15, 2019 @05:09AM (#21543703)
I don't believe it's related to being-busy. It's more about discipline in their life. Elite player's life is more organized, hence they seem less busy.

e.g I work out every day from 7 to 8 pm. I may be sounding less busy. But if the routine is the same, but I decide to go to the gym at random schedule, I will be more unorganized, will look busier, might be less productive, and yes I'm doing something wrong.

That's the last thing I expected to know about such a big company.
