Why?
Re:OLED iPad Mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @01:08PM (#50247221)
Same. But thats what drives me to duo. Probably the whole point

Is it possible its related to data traffic with carriers?

Because aggregation theory which he coined is coming to an end. The era is over
Re:Apple ML Research: Muse Spark Open with MLX on Mac Studio on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:31AM (#50119674)
I find it bizarre of Apple to do anything publicly in partnership with Meta. I always thought the reasons Apple snubbed Facebook were out of values and principles not business. That could be wrong. Now that Meta has a line of business that Apple can finally charge a platform tax on there is new reason to start sleeping with them.

Re:Apple may have an iPhone 18 Pro demand problem on Saturday October 10, 2026 @07:36PM (#50038221)
Just did an apple care battery swap while on vacation in Spain. Was able to just book a service appt from the Apple store in Valencia for my US iPhone 14 Pro. Trying to stick with a pre AI vintage for as long as possible. Meanwhile used Gemini to take all my iCloud data and pull it into a custom web service where I can scan through my history. Photos, messages etc. Then I nuked the iCloud subscription and lowered to free tier just for Notes across devices
None of this history had access to LLMs. This changes everything in terms of what the average user can do with a malleable operating system
Re:New PlayStation 5 Console Jailbreak Released on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @03:40PM (#49899224)
The exploit has been fixed in 14.0. Realistically gta6 will require it
Its quite reasonable to assume a future operating system could take on the malleability of emacs? That would make it the default. Just because it hasn’t doesn’t mean it can’t be.
Re:What even is an OS now? on Saturday September 26, 2026 @11:33AM (#49857515)
I did the same thing writing sample code from DirectDraw APIs to make windows games. There was a huge gap between copying tutorials and writing my own game. I never got there. LLMs could bridge the divide. Tutorials can give me the nuts and bolts and feel of whats possible. LLMs can bring into reality the bigger ideas from my mind.

Whats wrong with playing for plaid to connect all your banks to your own software? I think i pay 50 cents a month or something
Re:How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs on Saturday September 26, 2026 @07:23AM (#49855478)
Even though I disagree with (when I worked on CUDA at nvidia if I ran the TOT compiler on the same shaders one day and the next they could often change), the point is not to compare the two things side by side. It's just to say there are lots of times in life where for whatever reason we can give up old jobs.
Re:How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs on Saturday September 26, 2026 @06:20AM (#49855089)
that's okay! nobody had the bandwidth to check compiler generated machine code either so we just stopped doing it
Re:What even is an OS now? on Saturday September 26, 2026 @06:00AM (#49854963)
Agreed. Investing in creating a whole new phone just to usher in the concepts here sounds like an expensive and slow way to do it.
Re:Spain Orders Blocks on Archive.today and Its Mirrors on Sunday September 20, 2026 @05:04AM (#49773973)
This is exactly why I believe LLMs are fundamentally divergent from the trajectory of internet service path we have been on. It allows us to create space and disconnection from an otherwise tethered experience.
Re:Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @05:42PM (#49719261)
People dont like any dating, they want to be past it into a long term healthy relationship mostly. If they could blink and get there they would choose it. So yes. The analogy is even better than even better than stated. Nearly everyone cares about the outcome while very few care and enjoy the process
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Friday September 11, 2026 @01:37PM (#49662232)
You can be vague and right about the future broadly. You can talk specifically about what your company is doing directionally on those lines. But, when I hear people talking in detail about how the future is going to work I just roll my eyes. Not because I disagree but just because nobody knows. and chances are it won't work that way.
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:59AM (#49621724)
This problem has permeated everywhere. Nobody can predict the future. Even VCs can’t and yet I’ll get a weekly email with a confident narrative about the future. Looking at a16z. CEOs do this as well. Listen to Satya talk about how AI will transform things. We’ve trained everyone else to casually state what the future will look like on timelines. As if it’s knowable at all.
Re:Programming is Art on Monday September 07, 2026 @09:07AM (#49597981)
That is the comforting idea that allows people to believe in the status quo. It is a possibility but not the likely outcome in my opinion.

Re:Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal on Thursday August 27, 2026 @10:27PM (#49473667)
Elon bought a dead social network and look at him go! But seriously, I log into paypal once a month to pay my landlord. I am a MAU. That is crazy. It’s more then I can say for ABNB. Maybe they should buy Paypal. Save on those transaction fees.
Nailed it. Instead of reading this long form post I will eat popcorn and watch the show unfold as laid out here.
Re:Tell HN: PayPal Blocks GrapheneOS on Thursday August 27, 2026 @10:22AM (#49465359)
I have never been a crypto currency advocate, but if the banking utility of a mobile phone is going to be dictated by the operating systems that finance apps whitelist, I might want open rails that work with my open phone
Building browsers is not learning to dunk, its more like mastering some game. Your example basically sucks. Hah

Re:The Future Belongs to the Weird on Monday August 24, 2026 @08:41AM (#49418963)
Yes. To even mention venture in this era. It is more associated with status quo than being weird.
For this example, if you built a browser in 2000 it would put you in a great position to launch android in 2008. I think this is pg’s point. You spend all this time learning the interesting bits and when an inflection comes along that makes a new product or service possible you could be the one to likely launch it
