It's like it's trying to impress you with poetry in comment: "What the function does, it does well, and only just once"
Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @09:13AM (#49892682)
Tons of pictures and videos were published by both sides.

What makes you believe this? Please show hard facts, not just wand waving

Unfortunately this is a story as long as time itself, with tons of narratives to it so I can't write as a HN comment.

I wish I was eloquent and knowledgeable enough to write it, I'd probably write a book.

Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @05:50AM (#49890564)
There are several factors involved as I see it - a lot of money from Qatar flowing to make sure Israel is always shown as the aggressor, anti-semmitism is still prevalent, most people can't grok what the issue is in the Middle East anyway, people don't understand what living 10km from people who want to kill you looks and, and war is horrible and it's always easier to side with the people who seem to be the underdog.

What was there before Hamas?
Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @05:35AM (#49890468)
that's non-sense. Symbiotic is a horrible way to put it. You and I may not be supporters of any of them but to call a terror organization with a clear charter of destroying Israel and killing all jews symbiotic with Nethanyhu is just succumbing to a narrative someone is feeding you.

these kind of messages show us how good propaganda and brain washing is.

have you seen the extent of tunnels that were there?

Over engineering is subjective / evolving.

You could have bought a bell...

Re:Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with? on Friday August 14, 2026 @03:38PM (#49303626)
Could it be related to the anagram it's planting?

If it's wasting inference attempting to also fit in some anagram, it would make sense why answers are so dogmatic.

Yes, I think that with all these videos what you actually see is aliasing...
There's another parameter worth considering - how efficient is it to convert sunlight vs. gamma radiation into biologically usable energy.

What if for some reason gamma radiation changes the equilibrium constants for ADP --> ATP?

Like Qatar?
Re:BBC staff: we're forced to do pro-Israel PR on Monday July 07, 2025 @11:06PM (#44496585)
I read the article but not sure which pro Israeli editorials the BBC has published.

My experience is quite the opposite with BBC having a clear anti war stance.

Re:Traffic Fatalities Are a Choice on Monday May 12, 2025 @01:49PM (#43965709)
The article starts with statistics. Quoting deaths / person. Is this the right metric?

Since the US is huge and sprawling - it'd probably be better to use Death / km driven.

I checked this: https://www.oecd.org/en/data/indicators/road-accidents.html?...

Which paints a very different picture than what's stated in the article.

I pay our lawyer quite a lot and he also makes mistakes. What have you not - typos, somewhat inconcise language in contracts, but we work to fix it and everything's ok.

People are looking for perfect instead of better.

Re:Caddy – The Ultimate Server with Automatic HTTPS on Monday February 17, 2025 @05:28AM (#43077318)
Welp. We used it in prod for ~18 months or so but the experience was not something we'd repeat.

The configuration of Traefik, in our case, embedded in the docker-compose file was not clear. What was supposed to be a 'auto-detection' of services ended up looking like a hodge-podge of configs between several files.

The logging was sub-par - we couldn't properly debug issues.

And then we ended up migrating terminating HTTPS on AWS's ELB so the let's encrypt integration became not relevant which catalyzed us going back to nginx.

Re:Caddy – The Ultimate Server with Automatic HTTPS on Sunday February 16, 2025 @03:39PM (#43071447)
A couple of years ago, we tried replacing nginx with Traefik. The main reason was its https integration with lets encrypt.

Let's just say it takes a lot these days to choose something that is not nginx.

Re:Ruby in Jupyter Notebook on Tuesday August 27, 2024 @09:06AM (#41367095)
Well maybe it should be. I was thinking the same about languages which are better suited for data wrangling. But to me, the reason python is the DS language shows how good evolution is and survival of the fittest. You and I would probably argue that a DS language should have strong static typing but in nature what prevailed was the opposite. A nimble, easy, no fuss, comedy oriented named language.
Re:Ruby in Jupyter Notebook on Tuesday August 27, 2024 @08:44AM (#41366931)
Sorry for the negativity here, but why?

Why would there be a NEED for someone to use anything else than python in the context of a notebook?

My assumption is that anyone who's good enough to develop in Ruby/Elixir/Scala would find it very easy to write small snippets of python. Why go thru the hassle of another layer?

It reminds me of Scala.js - which transpiles Scala into JS. Doesn't make sense to me but happy to hear otherwise from the community.

Thanks for having 'in model mice' in the header.

Unfortunately mice disease models have not been showing efficacy in humans.

Re:Self-Serve Dashboards on Tuesday June 11, 2024 @11:15AM (#40647177)
I wonder what people here think. Would self serve BI work for something which is more context specific? So for example self serve BI for your own sales. What would it take? Why not?
Might be a 2:1 but we also have to take into account the level of evidence each study provides.
I have done it myself multiple times. Whether you can eat the skin depends on the mango strain. Some are really thin.
Tnx. That's helpful to know.
Re:Let insects eat your plants on Sunday May 05, 2024 @01:09PM (#40266397)
I was bought my vegetables from a guy who used absolutly no insecticides or pesticides. It was really great. He had a pretty decent area of land where he grew a plethora of crops. He told me that sometimes some of the plants were eaten but he had others so it's fine. The vegetables were very tasty and fresh and we loved it. We were glad to pay a bit more for fresh and poison free stuff.

Unfortunately, after a year or so he went out of business because he let the insects eat his plants.

We've been using Traefik in prod for 2 years. While I used NGINX in the past, I decided to migrate to Traefik mainly because of the automatic let's encrypt integration. I am sorry for that decision. Traefik's documentation does not make sense to me or my team. It is finicky and misbehaves without proper logging. As an example - when I want to recreate the certificates - it fails sporadically leaving prod down for an indefinite amount of time.

We're moving back to NGINX.
