Re:Why is Claude an Electron app? on Saturday February 21, 2026 @07:04PM (#47106499)
The second you wanted to add a webview, you want Electron. Devs want Chrome DevTools and Chrome runtime.

You guys just did add it too, so yeah!

I for one, like the fun you had on the page. Ignore the haters. Only critique would be you should just explain how it works near the top. I think most devs myself included want to first understand what it is before the why it’s awesome.

ps. Way back there was a project called tiddlywiki that was a self modifying html file and was pretty popular. I think initially there was no way to save new version but to basically save the file to disk to either fork a file or replace itself.

Re:Ask HN: Are there "story-based" and "fact-based" people? on Wednesday January 29, 2025 @03:20PM (#42870617)
I think being fact based doesn't make you put your foot in your mouth, that's perhaps correlated though. You can have empathetic-delivery/patience while being staunchly objective. With some patience/skill you can win people over to accepting or at least considering what might be a truth.

It's rarely cut and dry as to what is true though, and you have to speculate at much in order to make sense of any real world complex situation.

Re:ArXiv now offers papers in HTML format on Thursday December 21, 2023 @02:33PM (#38725572)
I was hoping this meant that html native submissions would be possible, so that people made interactive explanations.
Doesn't using your botnet expose your botnet IP addresses/devices?
Re:Sub-Pixel Distance Transform on Friday July 21, 2023 @10:54AM (#36814535)
Are you saying Text Mesh Pro is better or using a similar improvement over SDFs?
Re: on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @05:15PM (#34420204)
Thanks! Yeah, that felt good.
Re: on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @04:54PM (#34419906)
This is great, well done, and thanks for open sourcing it.

I started to build something like this early last year, but got too busy with another pet project and having a baby. Here's some demos and notes if you're interested. https://twitter.com/convey_it/status/1433163282597171200

Most people in the world pretty much have to, due to the prevalence of English in CS based businesses, projects, and academia.
Re:Joy.js – make happy little programs (2017) on Friday November 19, 2021 @06:09AM (#29276021)
I’ve recently built a VS Code extension that adds a Joy.js Editor to VS Code and then you can save and version control .joy files.

See some progress videos here: https://twitter.com/seflless/status/1460788493500796935?s=21

Re:Tldraw – a tiny little drawing app on Thursday November 18, 2021 @06:51AM (#29264430)
Here’s another early experiment with the extension. This time using Tldraw as a personal or team Trello style task planner. https://twitter.com/seflless/status/1452296968718401536?s=21

Not sure that this would work for most people , but would for sure for individuals who think I’m sticky notes

Re:Tldraw – a tiny little drawing app on Thursday November 18, 2021 @06:48AM (#29264410)
Definitely checkout the VS Code extension so you can version control diagrams/drawings along side your code.

Works on VS Code for Desktop, github.dev, vscode.dev, GitHub Codespaces.

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=tldraw-o...

Some thoughts on the extension and workflows are here: https://twitter.com/seflless/status/1446892923661045767?s=20

I care way less about this than alternate stores have no or much less stringent app reviews

This is how remember things historically.
Re:Next.js Conference Site Is Multiplayer on Wednesday May 19, 2021 @03:44PM (#27213500)
How do you talk? I see people making speech bubbles.
Out of curiosity, why is it unacceptable. It’s a great product with founders who have given much to opensource.
They explicitly called that out?
Re:Dynamicland on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @02:15PM (#26728721)
@SamBam, the concern about Bret maybe not asking for help and just working more in the open concerned me too. It's a large endeavor to try to popularize something like what he's doing. I assume a sense of showmanship and worrying about people misrepresenting it are a bit part of the dynamics. Perhaps sponsorship exclusivity, but that's more speculative.
Re:Dynamicland on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @12:02PM (#26726849)
I'm a fan of what Observable is doing. Combine bubbles of classic code, with intermediate audio/visual output as you build up to full interactive infographics/demos.

Some types of code, hopefully less than more is just not very flow based and doesn't have a concrete visual representation.

Re:Dynamicland on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @11:53AM (#26726698)
I personally hope that the output ends up being systems that are good for individuals with their own dynamic lands at home, not just strong group collaboration. I know there are already people who have setups done in coordination with the Dynamic Land team.

I've visited dynamic land also, and the vision of this more tangible visible computation is bigger than the incarnation/progress last shown.

I'm a fan of Darklang's goals too. But I do think Dynamic Land is targeting more approachable, teachable, and communal computing. Darklang is going to be more for professionals making backends and doesn't target any user facing audio/visuals whatsoever. It could in the end of course, so I hope it does well as an effort too.

Re:Dynamicland on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @11:49AM (#26726637)
The influence of his talks show up everywhere and are explicitly called out as inspirations. Elm Lang's time travel debugger, therefore redux, hot reloading work, Observable calls him out as influential, and on and on.
Re:The Roblox Microverse on Tuesday March 09, 2021 @03:56PM (#26404114)
For the step 2 and 3 phase, I think it should be mentioned how important games becoming free was for mass adoption. As much as I as a former game dev did not love the model of free and then upselling. I might just be old school at this point. Free and then upgrading avatars has grown on me.
Re:Little is a statically typed, C-like scripting language on Saturday February 20, 2021 @11:02AM (#26205091)
Definitely depends on the definition, it seems every programmer and their mother has some toy programming language they poke at.
Re:Why Is Esbuild Fast? on Tuesday February 16, 2021 @02:23PM (#26157691)
He's also likely referencing existing implementations and so likely can create more code faster than having to think of everything from scratch.

He's obviously changing things to be more optimal as he goes, not transcribing.

Re:What I Worked On on Tuesday February 16, 2021 @12:32PM (#26156395)
Ha, I think Dark Mode would be more on hacker point!
Re:What I Worked On on Tuesday February 16, 2021 @12:30PM (#26156362)
I only recall things that I think about a lot, which tend to be when I learned lessons and it had an effect on my life's direction. That and anything I found really interesting I still remember. For reference, I'm 42, so it's been 2 decades.
