Do more. The LLM is not your replacement, it will help you achieve 10x more. LLM also have quiz mode so just feed it a book and ask to generate questions if you want more.
Re:Fable extended until 19 July on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @09:19AM (#48906422)
This indecisiveness is ridiculous, and I am planning on switching back to GPT in the near future from Opus 4.8.
Fable 5 is switching into Opus 4.8 for everything I throw at it. It is not worth it Opus 4.8 is good enough for the next couple months. For $17/mo for pro anthropic is still worth it for claude code etc.
Re:Ask HN: What LLM models are you using and why? on Sunday May 17, 2026 @01:05PM (#48170759)
Opus 4.7 in Vscode via Claude Code.
Re:Instructure Pays Ransom to Canvas Hackers on Tuesday May 12, 2026 @03:58PM (#48113614)
It might make more sense for Shinyhunters to request a reoccuring charge to smooth out their revenue stream. Basically protection money as it was called in the good old days.

This is of course assuming that Instructure continues to be relevant, and that students still believe that college education holds economic or social value.

That is the point. Get an extra million or two $ in btc from Instructure.
States that do not comply get 8% less transportation funding https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Minimum_Drinking_Age_.... Funding is obviously more important than those between the age of 18-20 being able to drink alcohol.

These same men (18-20) would be the first to drafted to go die for the politicians enabling these laws.

Yes but an 18yo can also buy a gun, get drafted into the military, and produce OF/porn.

But no alcohol.

Re:US Bill Mandates On-Device Age Verification on Friday April 17, 2026 @10:38AM (#47806447)
Translation: government is the problem not the solution.
That is the point.

They want inconsistency so then you get to buy more usage. We are like 6mo-1y behind of just running these models (looking at you kimi) on a mac studio and not having to pay another company that think they are building the machine god. Anthropic and co have less of a moat than you think.

Killed 10s of thousands of civilians, you mean Iran or Israel?
And if you use cash to buy alcohol? But this is something to talk to a lawyer about if it mean that much to you.
Re:Ask HN: What is your dev set up like? on Thursday April 02, 2026 @06:22PM (#47620950)
VScode + Claude Opus 4.6 on Ubuntu 24. This is the best solution right now IMO, but Zed/Antigravity are also good alternatives.
Why is this such a big deal?

I don't get why people make such a big deal betting on sports; if you want to waste your money go for it.

Re:Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years? on Friday March 20, 2026 @12:20AM (#47450457)
Exactly. Ubuntu LTS 24 and Intel integrated GPU + Wayland is zero problems even when running 4k120 and 150% scaled resolution. Chrome / vscode / zed / Rstudio / Youtube 4k60, it just works.

Edit this is running a 32" 2160p120 (4k) monitor alongside a 24" 1080p144 monitor.

What I've found Claude really helpful for is filling in the gaps. When you know vaguely how do to something like interpret data, but what other packages exist in xyz random technical domain? That is how I found for expample https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/gggenes/vignettes/in... and Orthofinder when trying to teaching myself computational biology.

But sometimes even Claude gets stuck e.g. when I was trying to set up micropython via platformio running inside wsl2 on a windows 11 it got stuck setting up my ESP32 board.

Having taken a graduate-level CS course as a non-CS major, yes sw is about a decade behind what is actually being used. But the algorithms don't just magically go bad.
That is not even broaching the sacred domain-specific excel macros which will 100% break when you try and run in this program.
Re:Ask HN: How are you all staying sane? on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @12:43AM (#47228582)
I keep my mouth shut. Rational self interest, with the caveat that my own self is irrational. Let other people dig their own graves.
Re:Our Agreement with the Department of War on Sunday March 01, 2026 @12:37PM (#47208806)
Previously Snowden leaked that the NSA and FBI accessed data directly from major U.S. internet companies. Now we have generative AI that can help identify targets much faster. IMO the government is amoral and interested in getting the best technology available, and integrating it into their systems. So the CEO etc can say one thing, and will do another.

Other nations including Israel and the PRC will also be working with their own implementations respectively because if they are not they know that everyone else is. So this is just basic game theory.

But the kicker is that 5y from now we will be able to run Codex 5.3x or Opus 4.6 on a $5000 mac studio, so nations states will want to immediately implement this kind of technology into their defense apparatus.

OpenAI and Anthropic don't have a moat. We will have actual open models like DeepSeek and Kimi with the same functionality as Opus 4.6 in Claude Code <6mo IMO. Competition is a good thing for the end-user.
Re:New York Wants to Ctrl+Alt+Delete Your 3D Printer on Wednesday February 04, 2026 @07:54PM (#46894194)
Exactly, but it's less effort to steal a gun or have someone else purchase a gun for you then to 3d print a gun.

But even then it's not that difficult, it's entirely possible and legal in many states to print a polymer lower for a AR15 or Glock 17. Then go buy a parts kit from PSA $450 and have fun zero background check or sales tax required as the smaller gun parts stores do not have multistate business nexuses.

It is also not difficult to 3dprint a glock switch, even though they illegal per the NFA https://3dgo.app/models/makerworld/2035005.

This is 100% virtue-signaling from politicians.

Follow the money and see who bribed who to get this ;). The website is made by PWC consultant in 1/2h with chatgpt.
Re:So, you've hit an age gate. what now? on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @04:06PM (#46623422)
No. Fuck them. I'm not using whatever app. Use a VPN or pirate it.
The LLM still provide value. They are much quicker than seeing a doctor, and with Deep Research for ChatGPT and whatever Gemini google search is calling it now you can actually get to see the sources from the information that it is looking at.

Parsing 100 different scientific articles or even google search results is not going to be possible before I get bored and move on. This is the value of LLM.

Even if the LLM data is used in training or sold off one way to protect oneself, is to add in knowingly incorrect data to the chat. You know it is incorrect, the LLM will believe it. Then the narrative is substantially changed.

Or wait like 6mo and the opensource Chinese models [Kimi/Qwen/Friends] will have caught up to Claude and Gemini IMO. Then just run these models quantized locally on Apple Silicon or GPU.

Right, but what is causing the functional neurological disorder? Speaking as someone who has had alot of of chronic pain [CPPS] there is some sort of neuro issue going on but we don't know what it is. But "dementia, weight loss, unsteadiness, jerking movements and facial twitches" does seem like more than just neuro?
Yes and for some weird reason, the bay and all the nice places to live are all single-family and expensive as hell. Just build some soviet or Chinese style apartment blocks and give people housing like Singapore does its not that hard. This is not a democrat or republican issue, it is a have versus have-not issue.

The logical conclusion is that the residents of these desirable areas like the bay / San Diego / Seattle / DC actually want housing prices to stay high.
