Uh what? No. LOL.

I eat crazy amounts of protein, it's almost all of my diet outside of fibre and I've lost 120 pounds and now sit in the bottom of my BMI bracket.

Could be forgiven?

Re:Gravity Seems Holographic. What Does That Mean for Reality? on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:29PM (#49851425)
> We all believe what we want

- Time is strictly perceptual. The Universe as a whole (including changes in the fourth dimension) has always existed and will always exist. There is no 'end of time'.

- When your portion of the universe runs out (death) you just rerun it again. Because linear time is an illusion that helps us make sense of it (and not fear the future) and in reality we're skipping all over the place constantly. Forever. So hope your life isn't terrible. You're going to be reliving it infinitely. Enjoy.

Re:Logo Programming Language on Saturday September 12, 2026 @10:37AM (#49672753)
My partner and I develop a modern 3D web-based Logo called turtleSpaces. It has blocks and text, 2D and 3D physics engines and much (much) more...

I'm not convinced this is any better. A prison of stimuli is still a prison.

Which is fine, but you could just use it to fix your vocal track

I teach recording, mixing and mastering and I know it's tedious but all of it is very creative and there's art in the imperfections. Sanitizing it away may make it more appealing to the 'average' listener but you won't get actual fans that way.

Re:Show HN: Build your own theme park on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @08:32PM (#49457840)
I specified mountainous terrain but it can only seem to create a flat park, which is a little boring and more like Theme Park World than Roller Coaster Tycoon.

But it's still pretty cool nevertheless.

The Supreme court disagrees with you.
The Supreme Court has long recognized a border-search exception to the Fourth Amendment’s warrant requirement. In United States v. Flores-Montano, the Court looked to the nation’s sovereign “interest in protecting . . . its territorial integrity” to justify such searches.3 In United States v. Montoya de Hernandez, the Court stated, somewhat more narrowly, that Congress is the source of the executive’s power. It explained that “[s]ince the founding of our Republic . . . [Congress has] granted the Executive plenary authority to conduct routine searches and seizures at the border, without probable cause or a warrant.” The Commerce Clause permits Congress to authorize the seizure of goods at the border.

Re:Almost no skill required to cook a steak on Thursday August 06, 2026 @04:20PM (#49201919)
About five years ago I flash-fried a frozen steak.

Now I only eat steaks grilled from frozen. Get the grill nice and hot (450F at least) and throw the frozen steak on the grill. 5-10 minutes each side usually gets it nice and crispy on the outside while rare and tender in the middle.

Seriously, try it.

Re:Join Me in Jamverse on Thursday August 06, 2026 @10:35AM (#49197273)
Half the fun of writing science fiction can be coming up with novel concepts or 'rules', what happens when everything of consequence in the 'Jamverse' has been built out? Will they start a new one?
Re:Universities would prefer no AI on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @10:40AM (#49183692)
The issue is more one of current passive, abstract forms of assessment. This is laziness on the part of instructors. They will simply have to move to more complex, project-based assessments and accompanying interviews, which is more time consuming but will be far more accurate than the more traditional system of assessment was anyway. On sum it will be better for everyone.

Don't worry, WA, OR and CA probably aren't far behind.

If we did that the sun would be coming up at 4am right now in Revelstoke. What's the point of the sun being up at 4am?

On the other hand, I don't like it getting dark at 3:30 in the afternoon in Vancouver around Christmas. I know it means it will be darker later in the morning but you wake up in the dark that time of year already anyways.

I think this should be titled 'YOLO one-shotting is not engineering' which is a far more accurate description of the article.
Re:The Cost of Safetyism on Tuesday May 26, 2026 @10:52AM (#48280666)
Me too, but I wasn't on AOL or anything long-distance, instead I called local chat systems / BBSes. And because they were local we met up physically as a group at least weekly (almost daily in the summertime).

The summer I was 16 I spent more time away from the computer, hanging out with other teenagers I met on the computer, than I would have otherwise.

Logic Pro allows you to revert to previous saves / auto-saves.
Re:Childhood Computing on Sunday May 24, 2026 @10:32AM (#48257566)
I was lucky enough to be an autistic kid in the 1980s with access to a steady stream of new and novel computers: Apple II, Sinclair, Commodore, Atari, TI, Macintosh... kept me engaged and off the 'short bus'. If I had been born ten years earlier I'm certain my life would have been dramatically different (in a very bad way).
