You may need to add a SOUL.md as per Hermes documentation that I don't have handy right now. Ask you hermes to do it for you. It really improved my interactions with it.

I'm really happy with Matrix chat. But it's more of a protocol than a sole implementation. The good people at Element are pretty neat too.

Re:Tesla Robotaxi on Friday October 11, 2024 @12:18AM (#41806069)
as far as I've seen a high number of comments in a HN post will impact it's ranking.

to my understanding that is a feature designed to limit flamewars, of course I might be mistaken.

Maybe the product isn't the car but the stock.
Alicja has made a great ecplainer on our work it's pretty amazing to see her contributions.
Re:Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice on Thursday January 18, 2024 @01:28PM (#39045586)
I wish there would be an appliance manufacturer that would actually hire developers to create and maintain Home Assistant.

can you provide a overview of what Coqui is? I tried to find a bit but I'm on the move and have trouble navigating the site.

but apparently the snake charger or the quick battery change infrastructure or the robotaxis... never came to fruition.
If I remember correctly the andon cord was first introduced in the USA by Toyota on the same factory many Teslas are build.

Re:Vitalik is the public intellectual the tech world needs on Saturday December 09, 2023 @09:08PM (#38588360)
true, the way I see it, we need libre software, hardware, data but IMHO we also need lots of people from diverse backgrounds (professional, cultural, you name it) to share these ideas into the public sphere.
Re:The Antikythera Mechanism on Friday December 08, 2023 @08:00PM (#38577116)
I have to admit that my grievances were mostly about Greek academics.
there might be financial and political aspects to that, including those of the major investors of Twitter as a private company
Re:The Antikythera Mechanism on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @05:21PM (#38537739)
I'm Greek, I've been to the National museum of Athens several times and love the mechanism, the replication attemps, etc Clickspring though has actually made me understand and feel the challenges to build that thing. My personal view (please take it with a tablespoon of salt) is that Clickspring has made further contributions in understanding the underlying technological challenges than many academic papers and diatribes have done.
Maybe that's the plan all along.
wasn't Elizabeth Holmes (of Theranos fame) in the 30 under 30 list?
Re:27% of New Cars in France Now Plugin Electric Cars on Wednesday November 29, 2023 @11:02PM (#38469453)
Do we count the Citroen ami as a car or not?
My native language is Greek but I have been involved in translating stuff from English to Greek before.

Most translators in open-source projects are pretty familiar with English. Usually they have a technological or background so English is a must. Often we struggle with translating terms into our very own language because at least in some cases they may sound a bit weird.

I personally tend to use English UIs in the software I use because it reduces the cognitive load off trying to figure out the exact term at hand, but for my 85yo mom that struggles with very basic stuff yeah I'm glad she has the choice to use Greek.

Wasn't that the little handheld the kid (John Connor) in Terminator 2 used? I envied this thing so much as a kid.

edit & update: answer is yes! Wikipedia article confirms it in the "popular culture" section

Re:Subtitle is now open-source on Friday November 24, 2023 @10:48AM (#38405094)
Maybe an off-topic comment.

I'm not a native English speaker and I tend to use the LiveCaption application in Linux when I attend English speaking online meetings. Would love to have the opportunity to have subtitles in my native language (Greek) too while doing so.

I tend to file bug reports all the time on the Linux systems I work with because that's the least I can do to assist the developers of the open source projects involved.
