News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I have a theory that social platforms are so overwhelmed with flagged content because of ideological wars, they run out of capacity to address actual (and not imaginary) hate speech.

People flag everything they don't like instead of downvoting stuff. In fact some platforms don't even have a "downvote" button, so "report" button becomes a replacement and hogs all human moderation resources.

I would never hire someone with public activism record. In fact I'd rather hire someone with prior criminal record, as they actually have a chance to recover.
this is the kind of comment I come to HN for, informative and based on facts.
+1 on Macbook Pro, just wait a bit for new release:

AI or not, as long as the definition of "hate speech" is open for interpretation and highly politicized this whole discussion is pointless

so happy to see Bari Weiss on HN, one of the few brave souls in the media who still cares about journalistic integrity
Re:Netflix fires organizer of trans employee walkout on Friday October 15, 2021 @07:50PM (#28884400)
this, Netflix should not explain their actions. And if they suspend someone they better follow through and just fire them, indecisiveness projects weakness.

I'm glad Reed Hastings fully supports this, he is a major donor to the DNC, they are fighting their own.

These “marginalized” groups seem to be running the country though, and cancel anyone who disagrees with their agenda
the article is right, it's all about narrative, and these "optics" make SF politicians look bad
it's one if those ideas that sound bad initially but may turn out to be great in practice, like Airbnb

and reputation is much stronger signal than leetcode hoops

Re:Every search bar looks like a URL bar to users on Thursday October 14, 2021 @11:59AM (#28866086)
I always use search for url lookup, it's way more forgiving ( with spellcheck etc)

it's nothing to do with tech literacy, it just allows for faster finding of what you need

The downvote mechanism is sufficient. just remove the "flag" option and a lot of this unnecessary babysitting would not be needed.
