Funny. I installed my 2 kWp entirely DIY and plan to add another 2 kWp this month.

The 1990s happened. And a lot happened in the last quarter century, so you should update yor world model (preferably without resorting to MSM propaganda).

As to why why Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are sticking together, it is because they they don't want to hang separately.

As to why the West has lost its proxy war against a petty regional player, that is something for the history books.

Re:Graphene OS: a security-enhanced Android build on Friday July 25, 2025 @09:54AM (#44683156)
I've been rocking it on mobile for a while, and went for a tablet (LineageOS there previously) this month.

The only real option for privacy and security which isn't swiss cheese.

I would like to mention stack machines, particularly of Chuck's MISC type. I still have my Novix board somewhere.

Ask HN: Looking for best practices image lifecycle management for Kubernetes

Hi HN. I've fallen into a project that's a bit over my head experience-wise, so I'm looking for hints. This is about industry-standard/best practices management process for images in Kubernetes / k8s context.I'm already lost when trying to find a decent way to represent this. So far I have tree representing the management hierary, top nodes like image creation, image versioning, image storage,...

Re:Goldene: A single atom layer of gold on Thursday April 18, 2024 @04:13AM (#40074052)
Thin gold layers are green, this looks red if you look at the beaker.

There are spectral data available in the original publication https://www.nature.com/articles/s44160-024-00518-4

It would be interesting to revisit this review for the forthcoming Strix Halo. Particularly, for ML tasks on relative large memory sizes which are prohibitively expensive for GPUs.

As one of the early Epiphany owners, thanks for keeping things exciting.
Hospitality and healthcare occupations are doing badly in much of the Western World. Construction is highly seasonal, and arguably much of it is currently driven by an investment bubble rather than organic demand which could pop, ending in a long winter. Skilled trades, maybe, but you need a healthy job market so that people can afford these.

While these occupations are safe from AI, for time being, they're not safe per se.

It isn't as if capricious bans from whole platforms with no means of recourse were a problem already...
Re:Revisiting Vernor Vinge’s “predictions” for 2025 on Wednesday March 15, 2023 @05:14AM (#35165687)
My gold standard for Vinge is https://frc.ri.cmu.edu/~hpm/book98/com.ch1/vinge.singularity... with the key statement "I'll be surprised if this event occurs before 2005 or after 2030.".

Not to forget LineageOS et al.
Re:uBlock Origin works best on Firefox on Monday August 22, 2022 @03:10AM (#32548283)
This is why I'm still runnung 68.11.0 on Android. The last usable Firefox version.
It's not Russia, so far. However, if Russia stops all fossil flow it would implement the Morgenthau plan. Not just for Germany.

It is good news for USD vs EUR.

Dedollarization in global settlements is empirically a historic trend though. At least until 2020.
These can't be cosmic strings, right?
The much shorter doubling time makes sure it will overwhelm the much taxed intensivists. Death rates are much higher in triage.
Don't forget heat pumps. EV sales have also increased recently.
IPFS is quite resilient, and work well with VPN as well.

AI and simulation are absolutely HPC-bottlenecked.
Is the mobile device issued by your employer? Seems like a pointy-hair layer problem otherwise.
Have you considered transitioning to DevOps? Assuming you like operations, of course.
Re:Discovering How the Brain Works Through Computation on Wednesday June 17, 2020 @05:07AM (#23549358)
> “So, we have finally articulated our theory about the nature of the “logic” sought by Axel, and its supporting evidence,” says Papadimitriou, who is also a member of the Data Science Institute. “Now comes the hard part, will neuroscientists take our theory seriously and try to find evidence that something like it takes place in the brain, or that it does not?”

So don't get too excited yet.

Re:WireGuard Gives Linux a Faster, More Secure VPN on Monday March 02, 2020 @11:32AM (#22465871)
They've backported Wireguard to the next LTS (20.04 aka Focal Fossa) kernel, so wait a bit. Officially, it's due 23rd April.
Re:WireGuard Gives Linux a Faster, More Secure VPN on Monday March 02, 2020 @11:29AM (#22465830)
k8s already uses Wireguard for the service mesh internally.

For a globally routed overlay mesh, have a look at https://yggdrasil-network.github.io/

The latest version actually uses the Wireguard TUN library https://yggdrasil-network.github.io/2020/02/21/release-v0-3-...
