Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:49PM (#50091866)
Yup, and you can even cancel items in the order before it has shipped!

Don’t think any other online stores offer that in Norway, really annoying

Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @02:24AM (#49708487)
That would be controlled by the car itself? Surely must be a brightness slider for the infotainment system somewhere?
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @02:23AM (#49708480)
That should be controlled by the car, so just get a better car with a working light sensor? :)
Re:Pixel Watch 5 on Thursday August 13, 2026 @01:11AM (#49281985)
This, but the music and podcast functionality is just frustrating. In my more than 5 years of being an Apple Watch user, I have been let down too many times

It seems just unwilling to sync anything to the watch, so there’s nothing to listen to when I go for a run without my phone

It’s just baffling, the watch has like 32 GB of storage?

Re:Jellyfin founder Andrew leaves team on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @01:28AM (#48988373)
They just released the first update in years, v1.5

I understand it will be kept in sync from now on

Requires tvOS 26

Re:The lost joy of music piracy on Thursday July 16, 2026 @05:44AM (#48932342)
Only one of them had been available in FLAC, but someone made sure to make the rest available in the last two years, and someone else even put them on YouTube...

I had been on the hunt for them a couple years after purchasing The First Winter 25 years ago :)

Re:The lost joy of music piracy on Thursday July 16, 2026 @02:51AM (#48931141)
It's important to remember that to this day, streaming sites do not have a full archive of the music out there. There is still a need for music piracy

Even albums mentioned in the Norwegian business magazine D2 can be impossible to find in legit channels. Your only option is to buy used CDs on Discogs for 50-100 USD, or know your way around the successors of these sites

These CDs weren’t even on Oink or What (or did not survive the transitions)

Re:OpenWrt One – Open Hardware Router on Monday July 06, 2026 @04:44PM (#48810273)
Would you be able to set this up as a simple mesh with two units?

I have two old Amplifi HD units in wireless backhaul mesh that I’d like to upgrade

Re:Organic Maps on Monday July 06, 2026 @09:09AM (#48804088)
Yes, there are some initial discussions around that!

It's probably easiest to discuss in the project's Zulip: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/src/branch/main/docs/CONT...

Switch to Kotlin: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/1984 Migrate to Compose: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/4298

Re:Organic Maps on Monday July 06, 2026 @09:05AM (#48804029)
We need to do this transition, or contributors on macOS 27 won't be able to compile the app...

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/UIKit/transitionin...

Regarding testers we had a TestFlight build with non-functioning CarPlay, and it was only discovered by me (and I don't even own a car..)

If you're interested in taking a look, the easiest way to get involved would be to join our Zulip instance (Slack clone): https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/src/branch/main/docs/CONT...

Re:Organic Maps on Monday July 06, 2026 @01:56AM (#48801107)
No, because that part of OM is closed source, one of the main reasons for the fork!

It’s coming though: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/pulls/4111

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @06:34PM (#48798584)
Unfortunately they don't support opening hours in the schema, it's a deliberate choice as it's high value data the contributors would rather license to you
Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @02:25PM (#48796591)
Yup! It is worldwide since it uses OSM data

https://www.openstreetmap.org/

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:29AM (#48795008)
Agree, which is why I added support for displaying when the hours were last updated in CoMaps

Organic Maps didn’t accept my PR with it…

https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/688

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:26AM (#48794982)
Agree!

CoMaps fork is adding OpenAddresses integration and traffic (linked above)!

https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/pulls/4162

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:15AM (#48794900)
E.g., in the CoMaps fork test builds there is now a change to prioritize nearby places more

https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/pulls/4604

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:11AM (#48794871)
There’s actually work ongoing on live traffic support from various public sources!

https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/projects/21877

Re:Organic Maps on Sunday July 05, 2026 @10:39AM (#48794631)
Organic Maps was my go to app for a navigation app where you can fix errors yourself immediately! So much better than having to work for free on the proprietary apps, and hope they accept your edits

There’s a fork from one year ago, CoMaps, that is gaining different features

E.g., I am adding CarPlay Dashboard support that you can test by joining the TestFlight

We are in great need of both more testers and some proper iOS devs (I am not). We’re racing to get scene lifecycle support by September, perfect opportunity if you like modernising old codebases!

https://www.comaps.app/ https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps

That should actually help you also with AC: Keep the cold in, and reduce the electricity costs
Agree

Especially as air conditioning are heat pumps.

Would have helped solve the large dependency on natural gas heating for free as a byproduct!

Re:Notes from the Mistral AI Now Summit in Paris on Saturday May 30, 2026 @01:08AM (#48332792)
Where do you sign up for that subscription?

I wanted to try out Mistral, but I fail to find anything like that even after creating an account

Re:Amazon Web Services – Four Years and Out on Sunday May 24, 2026 @02:46AM (#48255039)
I thought Amazon only did memos, not slide decks.

Has that changed, or is it the non-AWS part of Amazon?

Re:Shipping a Laptop to a Refugee Camp in Uganda on Saturday May 23, 2026 @03:10AM (#48245451)
Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

Is that representative of the pricing? 550 000 USh is the equivalent of 145 USD, which is a lot for a 2011 13" MBP with a HD drive! That will be quite slow...

1.5 years ago I sold a 13" 2012 MBP with 500 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM on the used market here in Norway, and I couldn't fetch more than 90 USD... Half the value in the SSD itself?

And a 13" 2015 MBP with 256 GB and 16 GB RAM and new battery(!) I only managed to get 200 USD for, even though I'd tried for months for higher prices

So it seems like there's some market inefficiency here :/

For the wiki version, you have https://www.wikivoyage.org

It can be a bit outdated, but then you just update it as you do your research ;)

Re:LibreOffice – Let's put an end to the speculation on Sunday April 05, 2026 @02:57PM (#47652678)
Not sure myself, it seems like some of the founders were kicked out in 2025 for "misuse of funds" according to the auditor of TDF / or the Foundation authorities?

https://community.documentfoundation.org/t/well-known-high-c...

Also found this in the annual report, sounds quite serious:

> In 2023, following a request by the Foundation Authorities in Berlin, given the size our foundation has grown into over the last decade, TDF was audited, and a report was sent back to Berlin. The Board of Directors is working with the authorities to implement the improvements suggested by the audit

https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/fsqeJZrAtXeR7JD?d...

Would be helpful if the blog post was more clear about this

I find searching chatgpt.com and asking for sources, then visiting them, works much better than Google to find niche topics
Re:The Document Foundation ejects its core developers on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @01:39PM (#47604030)
Interestingly, the latest board minutes has a redacted section about a legal situation?

> [REDACTED: 43 lines of discussion about the current legal situation]

https://community.documentfoundation.org/t/board-of-director...

edit: And lots of back and forth regarding reviving LibreOffice Online here: https://community.documentfoundation.org/t/vote-revoke-votes...

Seems messy

Re:Bring Back MiniDV with This Raspberry Pi FireWire Hat on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @01:40AM (#47597220)
I am going to finish such a project soon myself, including some old Video8 tapes! Sounds like you're on macOS, Any reason you didn't use iMovie for the capture itself?

The Video8 tapes have already been digitalized via a Digital8 camcorder, but apparently you can get even better quality out of old analog tapes with the vhsdecode project. Let's see if I ever get around to that, but at least it bypass Firewire entirely: https://github.com/oyvindln/vhs-decode https://www.reddit.com/r/vhsdecode/
