"I don't think you're right on the legalities even in the children's case" almost certainly true :) I guess I'm wondering why we aren't seeing legal action for these events yet? are these not foreseeable?
can we legally treat ai companies like parents of children? if a child drives a car into a storefront, the parent is responsible for the damage, and at some point you might even criminally charge the parent if there was gross negligence
Re:Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting on Thursday September 10, 2026 @11:23AM (#49645326)
ah a proof by counterexample
Re:On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:56PM (#49615017)
in another world this could have been a beautiful collaboration
Re:The next chapter of our AI momentum on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @08:44PM (#49190980)
I remember after that release everyone was saying "well obviously google is going to win this, we all knew it, they have the data and the infrastructure"
Re:If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know on Wednesday June 10, 2026 @12:24AM (#48471399)
Will my centrifuges start being just a little off?
Re:Gemini 3.5 Flash on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @04:18PM (#48198925)
and somehow in 1992
Re:Scott Adams has died on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @07:51PM (#46610876)
this plus the word "quiet" also triggered my "maybe AI" alarm
Re:OpenAI declares 'code red' as Google catches up in AI race on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @02:39AM (#46131315)
I'm seeing it outside of techies. My dad told me "AI Google said that..."
most of what we know today we knew years ago, too
Is this because GPT-5 hallucinates less in general?
Re:OpenAI claims Gold-medal performance at IMO 2025 on Saturday July 19, 2025 @08:47PM (#44620896)
Explains why they’d announce on a Saturday
Where did you find the reporting about the non consensus ai view? That’s the most interesting take I’ve heard on this
And scale doesn’t even have the best data among these vendors so I also don’t get this argument
All of my passwords are encoded in pi…somewhere
Re:Humanity's Last Exam on Friday February 07, 2025 @01:43AM (#42970094)
This makes me wonder if you could train an llm without any references to Wiles’ work and see if it can compete Fermat’s last theorem
Re:Open Deep Research on Wednesday February 05, 2025 @12:57AM (#42944419)
I’ve heard it’s all the crypto influencers jumping into the AI hype
Could even argue that the price should go up, since the amount of with one GPU can do and its potential ROI just increased
Does anyone know _why_ it’s so much better at coding? Better architecture, better training data, better RLHF?
On the other hand, being too safe might make them easier for business to adopt (you don't want your support bot touching certain subjects)
Re:GPT-4o on Monday May 13, 2024 @01:49PM (#40346073)
not snark. if only hn comments could show the right feelings and tonal language
Re:Ask HN: How are you finding Gemini Ultra? on Tuesday February 20, 2024 @01:06PM (#39444576)
Currently subscribing to both, and for tricky programming questions I go ahead and ask both and take the answer I like more. There was an AWS networking problem I was debugging that Gemini got but GPT4 didn't, but Gemini has trouble with giant pasted code, and doesn't allow file upload yet, which is a major blocker for me.
Re:Sam Altman is at OpenAI (with a guest pass) on Sunday November 19, 2023 @04:14PM (#38338112)
not sure why you're downvoted, that would be absolutely miserable
And even if they do, if someone uses the api and makes a publicly available website with no clickwrap, it would be legal to scrape that right?
Re:Google Bard enters open beta on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @04:16PM (#35251901)
I paid $.99 on eBay to get an invite back in the day!
This is fantastic timing with natural gas prices skyrocketing!
Re:Bing: “I will not harm you unless you harm me first” on Wednesday February 15, 2023 @12:27PM (#34807341)
“You need to check your Time Machine [rocket emoji]” The emojis are really sealing the deal here
Re:Bing AI Can't Be Trusted on Monday February 13, 2023 @12:47PM (#34777189)
It might actually be smart of google to let microsoft take the brunt of this first...
