News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Google, unlike all their competitors, actually give Cloud API credits to all paying users of AI Pro and AI Ultra [1] - just use those for direct Gemini/Vertex API access instead of trying to hack the OAuth of Google's apps.

Are they going to release a Gemini desktop app with MCP support so normal people can use it?
Why can't this work with Final Cut Pro on a Mac?
Re:The end of classic Outlook for Windows is coming on Sunday March 17, 2024 @07:32AM (#39733699)
Replacing Outlook with whatever it is the "New Outlook" is supposed to be is so bad that Microsoft shareholders should get involved. It is a total destruction of value.

Big 4 do this routinely to check for conflict of interest as a result of audit regs.

You're wearing it wrong.
Presuming Apple left PWAs in just as they were with no changes, i.e. hardcoded to Safari, wouldn't Mozilla (and potentially MS) have immediately sued or complained that Apple was in violation of the DMA by not allowing their browser engines to launch from user added home screen icons?

If this is the case then leaving PWAs as they stood risked bazillions in fines from the EU. No?

Re:Mixed reality gone in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26052 on Saturday February 10, 2024 @07:33AM (#39325709)
These headsets had a nice standard HDMI and USB A 3.0 port. Could have plugged straight into Xbox for "Xbox VR".
Does this include ipadOS?
Does this apply to iPad OS too?
Last I heard they were trying to rebuild Horizon on "AWS and JavaScript". I wish I was joking.
Lots of architects / tech leads read this instead as: "design the software to fit the maximum team cognitive load that you desire”. They actually over-complicate software builds in order to justify headcount later. "Oh whoops yes we now need a whole full time Ops team, don't worry I know just the guys".
Re:How I Obtained a Business Manager Visa in Japan on Sunday December 24, 2023 @05:11PM (#38757447)
This is also the visa that many middle class Taiwanese and Chinese people use to move to Japan. It's basically a visa for sale under the auspices of a "business visa".

Romania levvies "corporate income tax" on revenue and not profit? Wow.
Blackmagic basically sherlocked them with Apple's advertising support.

Japan is one of the easiest and cheapest immigration systems in the modern world.

  - Degree and a job offer? You're in.
  - Married to a Japanese person? You're in.
  - Got 40,000 USD to put into a "business"? You're in.
There are no limits or quotas. The green card / permanent resident system is not a lottery. Make about 100k USD a year and you can be permanent in 3 years, and even in 1 year if you tick enough boxes. They basically just charge for postage as well, unlike say the UK that charges thousands and thousands of pounds for visas.

"Japan hates immigration" is a myth.

Why would you publish research about the activities of the company you are a board member of? Did she see OpenAI itself as an experiment to study? What's the mentality?

Satya saves the stock price in time for Monday. Genius.
"remarkable potential to augment human creativity and self-expression"

Gaslighting at its finest.

I wonder if Apple will let you disable iMessage and use just RCS instead?
I wonder if the real reason they are going to these extreme lengths to conceal the identities of these experts is because they don't actually exist?
