I had the same question. I wondered why seeing a 70mm print was supposed to matter if it was going to get digitally edited and color graded anyhow. The answer turned out to be that neither of my speculations were true.

Convenience. Rice cookers are very much fire-and-forget systems.
Huh! Coincidentally YouTube suggested this older video about _benshi_ to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWc__spYakA

This presentation explores how Indigenous cultural knowledge can be used as a framework for computing science and computer programming. First, this conversation introduces decolonial computing and some of the problems with “culture-agnostic” or “culture-neutral” computing initiatives. It then proposes an Indigenization of computer science to disrupt established western design principles in computing by focusing on culturally-specific interfacing in digital technologies and computer programming.
Regional variation? When I was growing up (in California, in the 1970s and 80s), we called them chalkboards because, you know, you used chalk to write on them. Also, they were often green.

Do you call it 'soda' or 'pop'?

One can also pay through ACH, so it's not like they're completely cut off from the traditional financial systems.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of their users use each payment method.

Re:Beverly Cleary has died on Friday March 26, 2021 @11:03PM (#26599540)
It is, indeed, a valid an interesting opinion; but, given the situation, this might not be the exact time and place to feel the need to express it.

I did not find it hard to not make assumptions. Perhaps it's your approach to life that needs examining?

That's really easy to say when you (and, honestly, I) are not the ones paying that price.

What camera do you use?
Re:Google is shutting down the QPX Express API for airfare data on Wednesday November 01, 2017 @01:01AM (#15598888)
That's awesome, but once you find an itinerary you want, how do you book the flight? Do you usually go to the individual airlines' websites and rebuild the itinerary by hand? Or do you send the 'fare construction' string over to a travel agent?

Who said anything about taking out a fraudulent loan?
Until the airline crew conclude that hiding the title of the book one is reading is equally suspicious. After all, innocent people have nothing to hide, right?

Fear of violent crime. I'm not saying it's reasonable (statistically speaking), just that it's there.
Re:How a Legal Journalist Got Fired for a Non-Compete on Monday February 08, 2016 @11:40AM (#11059101)
Trade secrets are already specifically protected, even without non-compete clauses (https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/trade_secret). A former employee that divulges trade secrets will get into trouble for violating that.

It's 2015! I didn't think 'Best Viewed with Internet Explorer' was a thing anymore.

Re:Holiday Gift Ideas from Y Combinator on Thursday December 17, 2015 @06:30PM (#10755485)
And to pile on, whose bright idea was it to add items that aren't even available? Cinder, Eight, and Nebia look cool and all, but summer 2016 is a little too late for a holiday gift, n'est-ce pas?
