The newly released blu-ray includes both the 85-minute and 60-minute cuts.
~10 years ago I had a renewed interested in perspective drawing, and was struggling with an 'exercise' that utilized curvilinear perspective & oblique angles. Anyways, I stumbled on some of Rafael's drawings and found their inclusion of the guidelines invaluable, but for the hell of it, I emailed him some questions. He promptly responded and then dumped images and reference material on dropbox for me - very nice guy.

Personal fav is "Dürer" that demonstrates Albrecht Dürers method of projecting a spiral.

~50% response rate for people with major depressive disorder isn't "barely working" -- for millions of people, SSRIs significantly improve their quality of life. Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" solution and often those of us with MDD have to try different medications, in conjunction with a (good) therapist before we find what works best.

Personally, I've run the gamut on SSRIs and they never suppressed all emotion.

You may be interested in a Home Music Player/Streamer. They're typically quite expensive though - WiiM devices are the exception.

Having been a young kid in the 80s, what I recently discovered was the primary concern with parents at the time (because, I genuinely don’t remember) was using those afternoon and Saturday morning cartoons as a vehicle to sell products to kids - a barrage of advertisements. Seems pale in comparison to extreme behavior that potentially endangers others, e.g. deliberately crashing your airplane for views/hits.
Re:Notes on EndeavourOS on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @03:42PM (#39843652)
I've always thought it was weird that distros like Manjaro and EndeavourOS get lumped together as "arch derivatives" when the former doesn't even pull from the Arch repos.
Re:Notes on EndeavourOS on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @03:04PM (#39843274)
In addition to 7839284023's suggestions, if you're making regular backups and not performing partial updates, I think it's unlikely you'll tank your OS and if you do, you got the backups. You mentioned debian and things to avoid post-install - if you're looking for something as invaluable and concentrated as dontbreakdebian, you won't find it with Arch (outside of simply pointing to the wiki).

EndeavourOS has their own wiki . I get the impression they were/are attempting to translate the Arch wiki to a more succinct and ingestible format, but many of the articles are several years old so I'd recommend vetting those that are applicable to your use case.

Re:Notes on EndeavourOS on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @01:57PM (#39842447)
EndeavourOS has been my daily driver for about 4 years - I'm a huge fan. A breeze to install, excellent community, and I like the QoL features/packages they've added.

>For mass gamers of that era, where the big thing was "arcade in your living room" it's a disapointement....

One exception to this is the shmup genre. The Saturn was inundated with Japanese Shmups and many are perfect (or near perfect) arcade ports.

Odd position. Apache devs thanklessly busted their ass patching log4shell in 2021.

and microtransactions in Ubik.... *shrug* I mentioned quintessential works rather than "origin stories" to avoid an inevitable "all work is derivative".

edit: True Names surely should have been added in my brief list.

the bulk of tech foresight - Metaverse, Gargoyles, Earth (Google Earth)... of course it's foundational. the fact it lagged several years behind the sprawl trilogy, mirrorshades, or schismatrix, etc is irrelevant.

> Fines up to $1M and 20 years in prison. It also uses civil forfeiture and makes it illegal to properly run a VPN.

I genuinely don't understand where this interpretation is coming from; I'm not challenging the interpretation, rather asking for an explanation. They intend on cratering SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS (+ insert any other solution where VPNs are ubiquitous with respect to access) for the purposes of prohibiting access to TikTok and ilk that belong to "foreign adversaries" (China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela)?

- Will B2B VPNs be allowed, and B2C / commercial VPNs be prohibited?

- How would they accomplish this? Ask ISPs to blacklist VPNs?

- How would any of this be enforceable? (perhaps I answered my own question with the preceding question)

edit: I replied to the general post rather than the individual whom I addressing my inquiry.

Big fan of ASR and former HeadFi member (back when they actually had a sub-forum dedicated to measurements, data, and science). My only 'criticism' (and it's primarily directed at older reviews) would be Amir often using SINAD as a single metric to determine the quality of a product. I'd guess this was intentional, as a means to address how "convoluted" (aka batshit crazy) the hobby had/has(?) become, e.g. how you feel about your $1k audiophile switch is of no importance to anyone other than yourself.
Re:ChatGPT Explained: A Normie's Guide to How It Works on Tuesday March 07, 2023 @09:43PM (#35064536)
I haven't experienced chatgpt explicitly tell me "I don't know", but it has provided me with factually incorrect answers pertaining to the functionality of an appliance and associated software. Further probing and I was advised to contact IBM support.... lol.

My usage has been confined to specific technical inquiries and chatgpts benefit has been colossal in saving me the time of sifting through decade(s) of documentation, forum posts, bug reports, kb articles, etc.

Re:Ask HN: What is the best thing you read in 2022? on Monday December 19, 2022 @01:49PM (#34055960)
The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Grim and gritty, with phenomenal character development that hones in on the fallibility of people. The narration by Steven Pacey is incredible, if you'd like to go that route.
Re:Contra Wirecutter on the IKEA air purifier on Monday June 20, 2022 @11:24PM (#31819504)
Headfi wasn’t always that way. There was a mass exodus of their scientific-minded members, who dedicated themselves to posting objective, and double-blind tests. Naturally, this created a problem with their advertisers, and most left en masse. Now, the site’s little more than a dumpster dive of anecdotal evidence masquerading as reputable sources.

> If you're into headphones, Crinacle's site/YT are on a completely different level than any other review site.

Audio Science Review was posting deep-dive technical reviews of amps, dacs, daps, iems, and headphones, years before crinacle made a post on headfi, and I say that as a member of the latter since ‘02. Many audio engineers and enthusiasts have attempted to remove the “reality distortion field” that permeates the prominent audiophile communities (headfi, audiogon) for years; ASR was one of the first to successfully to so (excluding sites dedicated to specialized equipment).

There are plenty of children whose online behavior is oblivious to their parents, or they circumvent restrictions their parents placed.
That's an interesting perspective. Certainly not saying you're wrong. I found the font on Windows (note: Windows 10) unbearable despite deploying a plethora of "tweaks" and "fixes", and wasn't content until I made the the switch to Linux & MAC (home and work, respectively.) edit: Noto Sans or Futura BK Book for Interface & Document, Hack Regular for Monospace.
Unfortunately, I’m one of those individuals illogically terrified of flying. A small dose of a benzo (in my case, Ativan), makes the flight bearable.
And I’m not sure why propranolol would be continue to be prescribed, as it as been for 50+ years, for acute heart attacks if there was a substantial risk in the patients health deteriorating. It’s one of the oldest beta blockers in use.

Beautiful instruments. Personally, I still opt for a faber-castell clutch pencil, alvin lead, and a dahle or staedtler sharpener. In the event it's misplaced, it's not much of a loss (financially).

> Rent to AWS actually drives demand up quite a lot since the bills are huge and very few people understand what is under the hood and how it can be optimized.

A few years ago I participated in a Splunk deployment and the cloud solution utterly dwarfed an in-house enterprise solution, in regards to cost. Even in the event that cost was irrelevant, certain sectors (financial institution(s)) are going to have a difficult time pivoting to a cloud-based solution and relinquishing control over the underlying infrastructure.

Re:Cocaine Paraphernalia Ads in the 70s on Tuesday November 23, 2021 @02:07PM (#29321863)
I've always been fascinated by the depiction of the 70's in media: an era of excess and debauchery. the linked article (thanks!) reinforces the notion "truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; truth isn't." Each rabbit hole feels more bewildering than the former.

I'm extremely confused. Were your blackout curtains made of sheet metal and welded to the walls?

No specific question, but thank you for the highly entertaining (and interesting) site; I've had a blast with it.

"A Way With Words" would probably love this.

Vehemently agree. The response demonstrates, if nothing else, the lack of an appropriate Incident Response Plan. A competent legal team would not vet and approve such a response, instead redirecting it through the appropriate channels if they felt the need to respond directly.
