Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026) on Monday April 13, 2026 @12:49PM (#47754776)
I have been working on a few iOS apps for my own use case (stock/options trading)

Price & Volume: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stock-price-volume/id676015355... It is often helpful to see volume supports price action. I have the price/volume change color-coded with gradients so it is easy to see if they are following or breaking trends

Options Premium: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/options-at-the-money-premiums/... See all options premium on one screen

Stock Portfolio & Watchlist: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stock-portfolio-watchlist/id67... The idea is I'd like to group stocks by sectors and see if there is sector rotation going on. I will have an UI update soon

I get the data from my brokerage account. All apps is free but user may choose to support/donate if willing

I am working on the android version of this app. It is a tiny tool for options trader to see all the premium on one screen. Here is the reddit thread where I initially launched it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Optionswheel/comments/1nlelbp/i_mad...

If you trade stock or options, would love to get your feedback! Thank you.

Launched on Reddit last week: https://www.reddit.com/r/Optionswheel/comments/1nlelbp/comme...

If you guys trade options (selling CSP and CC), I would love to hear your feedback.

Re:Video Streaming at Scale with Kubernetes and RabbitMQ on Monday October 09, 2023 @05:52PM (#37825950)
No specific reason. It could have been built in any language. It was just the language we were using and enjoyed at that time.
Re:Video Streaming at Scale with Kubernetes and RabbitMQ on Monday October 09, 2023 @04:39PM (#37825215)
I built a similar video pipeline, not on Kubernetes but using EC2 instances for those hungry FFMPEG encoder.

The system differ in that it was not user generated video content. It was coming from the cameras in our fitness studio.

Here is the article if anyone intereste to read about: https://dev.to/dvliman/building-a-live-streaming-app-in-cloj...

I am working on https://calculator2go.com/?utm_source=hackernews - it is very basic. Nothing technical. I would add tool as I feel need. It is a hands-on approach for me to learn marketing, copywriting, etc.

Re:To ORM or Not to ORM on Tuesday May 07, 2019 @04:48PM (#19853308)
I personally prefer tools like https://github.com/jkk/honeysql

It helps build queries programmatically but doesn't abstract / get too much in your way.

On the "mapping" side, the resultset is just a map.

This is where languages that expose data-first shines

Thanks for sharing about Joe. I have only met Joe a couple times in Erlang BEAM conference and I can say that is how my memory of him as well.
Re:Ask HN: Should I learn Erlang? on Friday April 21, 2017 @02:14PM (#14167891)
There are plenty of companies using erlang in production. The community is relatively small and almost everyone knows each other. Yes, you can find erlang jobs or elixir jobs - a lot of those these days (PM me if you are looking)

Besides, erlang definitely gives you new perspective in building large scale system; supervision tree (let it crash), the actor concept, message passing, preemptive vm, built-in distributed erlang nodes, the repl, hot code swapping - any much more

The power comes from the whole ecosystem. Concurrency is built from ground up on language & vm level.

I have been in this situation. It was exactly 30 days as well. Found a new job in few days and quick enough to transfer the work visa. You can do it!

Re:F1: A Distributed SQL Database That Scales on Tuesday August 27, 2013 @05:39PM (#6286476)
This is not new by any mean...
This will lead to long debate. As for developer job: I have seen (many) incompetent CS graduate. I have also seen genius self taught developers. As for research job, it requires strong CS foundation.
