Show HN: Zipgeist, extract and open archives in Finder as volumes on macOS

https://zipgeist.app

Zipgeist is a MacOS app that allows users to open zip, rar and various other files in Finder without having to wait or unpack files. Ever since I switched from Windows to Mac 15 years ago I’ve always found it annoying that there wasn’t a way to just properly browse archives in Finder, like you can in File Explorer. Opening an archive is extremely fast, expecially in comparison to extracting....

Not as many though - and especially when it comes to websites about hobbies non tech related.

The effects in Captain America were terrible - joking! The thing is, AI is plastered everywhere these days on platforms (that were already deteriorating before AI, lets be honest). A lot of people don't want to be bombed with fake content.

You are definitely not alone - I miss the days of small forums, articles not written by AI or for SEO etc...

I also miss the creatively built small websites where people shared their hobbies etc. "Social" media killed a lot.

The web is becoming less and less genuine, it's depressing.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2025) on Monday February 24, 2025 @09:45AM (#43160164)
I'm working on building a few niche marketplaces/communities - and a platform (hosted and self hosted option) allowing people to start their own niche groups.

Cool stuff, only feedback I have is that it could be a bit clearer on the homepage what your product does - I only found out when playing around (I didn't read your post before trying). Maybe make it clear what it does before letting people play with it so have the test box in a 2 column layout or perhaps later on down the page? I didn't expect there was any other content/scroll on the homepage when I first landed on it.

They aren't (in EU)? Dacia Spring, Citroën e-C3, Fiat 500e, BYD Dolphin, ID.3 & Peugeot e-208 to name a few are quite a bit cheaper.

Let’s say I have an idea but it’s a niche, I know it won’t be more than ~1M in yearly revenue at its best. What is interesting for YC and what not when it comes to potential size?
Cool - not sure I'd want my prompt to be seen by others (which you can achieve by changing the incremental id in the url). Maybe use a uuid instead if you want to make it shareable?
Looks cool but I hate the copy (sorry, just giving honest feedback):

Re:Technical Manual TM 11-410: The Homing Pigeon (1945) on Wednesday March 13, 2024 @08:30AM (#39690592)
I use to keep homing pigeons as a kid and participate in racing, it use to be quite popular in The Netherlands and Belgium, the area where I live. But it's a dying hobby. The biggest race is Barcelona, 1000 km or 600 miles, which birds can fly in 10 hours.

I recently built a coop and finally have a few pigeons again after not having them for almost 20 years. They are intelligent animals that are fun to keep and bring me peace having them around me.

“ If you do not notify us within 30 days, you will be deemed to have agreed to the new terms.” - surely this wouldn’t hold up in court?
I'd be pissed off if I were an Outlook user - it's a shame that big tech get treated as the "gold standard" - I get that spam prevention is important but it shouldn't hurt your business. Their support is below standards. I wonder how many opportunities Outlook businesses lose because they don't receive certain emails.

That being said, email as a whole could do with being replaced with a more robust solution to make it more versatile and offer other spam prevention techniques.

I think because it just worked better than the alternatives. I remember working with subversion when I started at my first job. They switched to git a year later. This was a company mainly specializing in Java and doing development on Windows.

There are better options, outdated hardware, energy consumption etc.. But it’s always fun to repurpose things.

Re:Ask HN: What's your favourite hobby and how did it start? on Thursday August 31, 2023 @03:10PM (#37342245)
Pigeon keeping, well, I use to keep them as a kid. Missed them ever since. I recently bought a house with a nice garden and I’m in the process of starting again. Fancy pigeons, 2 specific breeds. Planning the loft build as we speak. Besides that, I love woodworking.
