It is unflagged, because at this point it doesn’t matter - thanks to scoring very few people will see it here.
Re:Scholars Who Study the Middle East Are Afraid to Speak Out on Monday December 11, 2023 @03:51AM (#38598798)
You’ve just called all Germans in 1944 Nazis.
Re:Scholars Who Study the Middle East Are Afraid to Speak Out on Monday December 11, 2023 @03:50AM (#38598789)
Could you please stop behaving like ethics and morality don’t exist? It is not what this side is for, and you’ve been doing it a lot lately.
Soon to be flagged down of course, just like https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38592050 (https://www.chronicle.com/article/scholars-who-study-the-mid...).

Weird how HN isn’t doing anything about it, isn’t it?

Re:Scholars Who Study the Middle East Are Afraid to Speak Out on Sunday December 10, 2023 @12:56PM (#38593378)
Yeah, I suppose being a German in 1944 wasn’t a nice experience either.
Re: on Monday December 04, 2023 @04:37AM (#38515360)
Boycotting doesn’t work. And realistically we can’t do anything about the regime because they are USA’s strategic ally.
Calling it an Israeli-Hamas war is a manipulation. Israel isn’t fighting against Hamas, it’s fighting against civilian population (https://www.npr.org/2023/11/06/1210831466/death-toll-gaza-is...) which happens to include some Hamas members.

Hamas wouldn’t exist if not for continued Israeli occupation and genocide.

>Israel [..] is a country which upholds Western values.

Such as genocide? Like, actually murdering 15 thousand civilians, https://www.aljazeera.com/news/longform/2023/10/9/israel-ham...? How many did the “terrorists” kill?

Re: on Monday December 04, 2023 @03:52AM (#38515088)
Sadly, this proves that having one’s grandparents killed in a Holocaust doesn’t prevent them from being the opressors next time around.

And also gives a lot of credibility to claims that perhaps Israel really shouldn’t exist as a state in its current form.

Re:The Storm Brewing Inside Elon Musk's Mind Gets Out on Monday December 04, 2023 @03:44AM (#38515042)
Even NPR is giving roughly similar numbers, https://www.npr.org/2023/11/06/1210831466/death-toll-gaza-is...
20 year old load-bearing m4 tends to be less of a technical debt than 20 year old load-bearing Java - because it keeps working and doesn’t need constant maintenance.
Security: with cloud nobody cares, things leak all the time w/o much consequences

Reliability: unless you’re multi-bilion customer nobody cares, Google can simply ban your account and they won’t assign a human intern to perhaps reconsider dropping all your data because the effort would never pay

With local storage there is at least one person who cares about those problems. With cloud there is none.

Says USA’s official propaganda outlet.

He was attacked for no reason. Sure, it would be more convenient if he just let himself be killed.

Police officers protect people, not harass them.
Re:The Storm Brewing Inside Elon Musk's Mind Gets Out on Sunday December 03, 2023 @08:16PM (#38512616)
I love how the author of this piece describes Musk’s attempted collusion with a regime that just murdered 15 thousands random civilians as a “goodwill trip”.
Re:Cancer Warning over Soy Sauces on Sunday December 03, 2023 @08:12PM (#38512590)
So, is it actually dangerous, or based on fake science again, like with the MSG ban?
Re:Lobsters on Sunday December 03, 2023 @08:08PM (#38512559)
Except in this case you still don’t have any accountability, so the site (eg HN) can still shape the narrative by slightly altering the scoring.
Re: on Sunday December 03, 2023 @07:53PM (#38512457)
It’s hard not to notice all articles that oppose Israeli propaganda quickly get flagged. Not that I’m surprised.
Re:Technical Debt Is Not Debt; It's Not Even Technical on Sunday December 03, 2023 @06:17PM (#38511795)
This site is trying hard to pretend it’s not about selling some snake oil courses.
Re:Gulf of Tonkin Incident on Sunday December 03, 2023 @06:12PM (#38511764)
Apart from that he was a warmonger and presumably a shit person overall.

“In his book, Body of Secrets, James Bamford, who spent three years in the United States Navy as an intelligence analyst, writes that the primary purpose of the Maddox "was to act as a seagoing provocateur”

There is no such thing as workforce shortage. What is there is a salary shortage.
Re:The World Depends on 60-Year-Old Code No One Knows Anymore on Sunday December 03, 2023 @05:52PM (#38511603)
You could do it with a trivial C macro instead.
Oh, sure you can develop it - same as with every other open license, including public domain. But it prevents you from replicating the original business model.
Re:Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish on Sunday December 03, 2023 @05:34PM (#38511446)
Yup. You can’t effectively fight an enemy by his rules.

Instead of writing new browsers - and getting them easily broken by Google again - we need to focus on stuff like providing an open YouTube mirror, or helping users jam AdSense with fictional data, or flooding YouTube with autogenerated videos… Lots of possibilities really.

Perhaps you shouldn’t put so much trust in marketing videos.

If your safety features could be disabled by root on a non-safety critical subsystem, it means your car is already unsafe by design.
Re:Lobsters on Sunday December 03, 2023 @05:09PM (#38511226)
When things grow, they change, often becoming worse from their “old” users point of view. So, why would you want it to grow, as opposed to staying the way you like it?
Re:The World Depends on 60-Year-Old Code No One Knows Anymore on Sunday December 03, 2023 @04:43PM (#38511056)
90% of middle management could be replaced with simple shell scripts; LLM would be a vast overkill.
