i have this exact same machine and 3.8-27b runs well, albeit slow at about 6 t/s.

i have it complete tasks in the background as i work on other things.

for comparison, my 3090 runs it at about 60 t/s.

Re:Running local models is good now on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @01:07PM (#48558426)
This is not my experience at all. Even the Nous Research guys have stated that "Qwen3.6-27B is the canonical local model to use Hermes Agent with" [https://old.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/comments/1sz2y76/ama_wit...]. I am finding the same when used with Pi and OpenCode.

Gemma will just stop mid-tool call. It's been slower and I've had to reduce context size to run it. Qwen3.6 27b has been rock solid using club 3090's single card setup for agentic use -- https://github.com/noonghunna/club-3090/blob/master/docs/SIN...

I would purchase [2] used 3090's as close to $600 as you can. The 3090 still remains the price-performance king.

Give this project a try. I've been using it with promising results.

Not that unusual in the context of trying to outshine anything that could be released tomorrow at llamacon.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024) on Monday October 28, 2024 @12:14AM (#41967838)
I built a site that saves time by summarizing YouTube videos or news articles by simply inputting the URL. The tool preserves the original context, allowing users to ask follow-up questions.

I'd like to continue building fun projects like this until I find a market. I work in Phase 1 clinical trials and the end goal would be to implement some of these efficiencies into health technologies.

- Install Shelter from F-Droid

- Install the Aurora store apk inside of Shelter

- Open Aurora store in Shelter's work profile and use like a normal play store and all apps installed within Aurora remain sandboxed

Not mentioned here, and more importantly in my opinion, are Burry's bets on US Treasury bonds crashing.
Re:We Chat, They Watch on Friday May 08, 2020 @12:59AM (#23111549)
I can confirm that this method worked at least until early March of this year.

While inside China, it is virtually impossible to work in any capacity, in any field, without using WeChat.

Outside China, it is the most reliable means of communication to people without access to unrestricted internet. This has become even more difficult within the past year with the blocking of Shadowsocks proxies. You are unlikely to have friends with the ability or knowledge to install v2ray+vmess+websocket+tls for a reliable, unrestricted connection.

Your next best option is Facetime/iMessage, in my experience.

Re:Jitsi Meet features update on Wednesday April 08, 2020 @02:49PM (#22815779)
I am so happy Jitsi exists. My friends and I have a room that we regularly pop into to say hi or play games together.

The mobile app I downloaded through F-Droid works incredibly well, and for those of you Firefox users who aren't having the best experience, I recommend using the Electron desktop app [https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet-electron/releases].

I've been using the Jitsi Electron app in conjunction with OBS + the VirtualCam plugin to share games, videos and my desktop. Hopefully I can convert more Zoom users.

Small routers exist. Take for example this battery powered GL-MiFi [1] LTE router. Comes embededded with OpenWRT so your LTE connection can utilize Wireguard, Shadowsocks, OpenVPN, etc. Would pair well with something like the PinePhone.

Ask HN: How to Create DIY MySudo Alternative?

MySudo allows you to create virtual phone numbers so that you never have to give out your SIM card phone number. Is there a way to do something similar using a VPS and other open source tools? I've been working on self hosting a lot of my services (Nextcloud has been great) and a MySudo alternative would be really great. They've also been iOS only and I'm on LineageOS.

I've had the same issues and a similar experience after using Signal the past few years. It took so much effort to convince my closest friends to install Signal and the single most frustrating thing it would do is force us back to SMS because sending of encrypted messages would continuously fail.

What really sucks is that there's no hope of me convincing them to switch again if a better messenger were to come along.

This guy was able to add the headphone jack back into an iPhone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utfbE3_uAMA). The argument that there is really no space just isn't true.

In Shanghai I'm able to connect through the meek-azure bridge, but everything is incredibly slow. I'm still having the best results using Shadowsocks on a VPS (although I'm on a 200Mbps China Telecom line at home). Commercial VPN offerings, such as ExpressVPN and Astrill, were slow in comparison.
I'm using plain Shadowsocks with no issue.
I really think I would have to leave China if not for Shadowsocks. It is my only reliable tunnel to the outside internet. I'd love to meet Clowwindy one day and hear about his experience.
I use the poor man's version of this. T-Mobile One plans give you uncensored 2G data at no extra cost.
Travel. Every experience feels like a hard reset on my perceptions of how things should be, even in cultures similar to my own.

Sometimes I'll miss the way things are back home. Other times I'll wish that we'd adopt some of their values, but either way, it opens up the conversation about these ideas and how things can be approached differently.

If you like finds like this that you can actually purchase, I'd highly recommend checking out http://bringatrailer.com/

They have links to the eBay auctions or Craigslist ads where the cars are being sold. It's not my site, I just enjoy browsing through.

And here's one of how the the car might look fully restored in its current color: http://imgur.com/a/LSM5j
I use this script for my servers as well and it seems much quicker and easier. What benefits does OP's method provide?
I agree with this as well and regret having bought a Xiaomi phone despite its great value. This is the reason I will not be purchasing this laptop.
I should have probably clarified that 'high end' was referencing the luxury goods crowd, not high end professionals.
I agree with you that we are constantly bombarded with propaganda, but a lot of the backlash is coming from long-time Apple users such as myself, who feel that Apple is no longer making computers for us. And you know what? That's perfectly fine, they're a business and are catering to the high end where the margins are best.

The proof is littered all over HN and Reddit where blog posts all begin with the same defense, "I"ve been using Macs since... and have bought Apple since this, this and this."

Personally, I wish there were a company selling a generic looking, uni-body notebook, similar in aesthetic and price to the new Xiaomi laptop. If some company could optimize hardware like that specifically for Linux, from the ground up, then maybe I could ditch this aging mid-2011 Macbook Air running Linux.

Re:Xiaomi’s first laptop is a Macbook Air rival on Wednesday July 27, 2016 @04:15PM (#12176162)
I've purchased a Redmi Note 3 Pro and a Mi Max from Aliexpress without issue using resellers with lots of international feedback.
