Wow this takes me back, but not as far as you’d expect. I remember setting this up in the biology labs at UR some ten years ago to run some legacy phylogenetic software.
Academia is a cesspool of entitlement, corruption, and back-rubbing. It's been holding back science and logical discourse for decades now. I hope the entire university system falls to its knees.

Oh boy, a 6.1 inch screen. "Popular". Ugh. RIP any hopes of a small SE refresh.
How is Brilliant? I see it plugged in Sabine's videos and I'm really curious on brushing up my math and physics.
I listen to Foregone Destruction so much that when I play the actual map that uses it I always think I left my music player running in the background.
Re:Is It Time to Step Away from Coding After 10 Years? on Thursday November 14, 2024 @03:55PM (#42141111)
About 10 years ago I graduated with a useless degree in mathematics. My dad was homeless in San Diego and I was tired of being unable to help him when he reached out for money for a hotel.

So I enrolled in App Academy. I got a job at Apple and four months later he's killed in a motorcycle accident.

I quit my job, floundered a bit, found sporadic success in startups, had a few breakdowns, spent some time in the hospital, but always went back to work, back to grinding out Python and SQL and other nonsense.

I hate it, to be quite honest. I want off this damn ride. It would probably help if I had family, friends, or mentors to fall back on, but I don't.

So I keep pushing, keep committing, cursing myself out for introducing more bugs, failing to find the spirit to go on fixing things for big mega-corpo customers. And if I stop, I don't have an alternative means of survival.

So it goes.

My dad showing up to drink with me on campus uninvited is why I'm a recovering alcoholic. I never wanted to drink, but the pressures from my _parents_ vastly outweighed that from my peers. Screw them both, tbh. And screw these parents perpetuating that very pain. Oh well, it'll certainly be good for the therapy and addiction treatment industrial complex.
Never use public trackers (unless you're downloading Linux ISOs of course).

I did something similar a few weeks back with Jinja: https://github.com/drproteus/resumaker. Great minds and all that.

Dae-mon, ah-ah-aah.
Re:This is my dead grandmother's Special Day on Thursday October 03, 2024 @02:35AM (#41727874)
This is painful, I couldn't bear to do this. I still have an email rule to delete anything mentioning "Father's Day". And then I went scorched-earth-forget-everything and moved every picture of him into a tarball that wouldn't show up in a gallery view. One of these days I'll get around to unpacking that grief.
From their homepage: "For $29.99 a month PimEyes offers a potentially dangerous superpower from the world of science fiction" - NYT

I'm not sure that's a winning endorsement.

So, does this mean I could potentially have a refind like bootloader where I select boot disks through some sort of "warp zone"?
