I'm tired of women wanting men to quit acting like men. If she doesn't like it, is she a woman acting like a woman? I don't want her to behave that way so maybe she should change HER behavior. Get along with others. Nobody's calling her names. Nobody's targeting her.

You can find a scum lawyer anywhere in the world, can't you? I assume he has proof all his charges are true.

I knew this would be downvoted by the predominantly Windows users here but, if they knew anything about *nix, they wouldn't do that.

And no self-respecting developer would ever use Mono on nix anyway because the nix tools run circles around anything .NET/Mono.

I sometimes got to sit next to Jim Clark during lunch when I worked at Silicon Graphics. He's just walk into the cafeteria and sit anywhere and sometimes it was with us systems engineers. Interesting to listen to the chit-chat.
Re:Show HN: Decode a GIF blinking in Morse code
on Thursday March 08, 2012 @07:56AM (#3679544)
Many of us ham radio operators can hear morse at pretty high speeds but I remember being on a bus with a friend who was well known for being the best of the best. He was staring at an ad for the longest time before I interrupted him to ask why.
There was some morse printed on the ad, just one line, but because we are so used to listening to morse, interpreting it visually took far longer.

Same here but not as much. I do all my work that way in FreeBSD but with another FreeBSD box sitting next to it running X for any graphical stuff I need to look at.

I heard the best term for these Anonymous crackers by someone interviewed on NPR today. "Lynch mobs". Very apt. He was describing them as people who go out to lynch those they don't agree with.

You NEED those things in VS in order to keep track of the 20K+ objects, code, libraries, etc. to code for Windows and .NET. You don't need all that in Unix.

Re:Why, oh why, do those nutheads use vi?

Just the opposite. I find all that distracting. My hands never leave the keyboard. The mouse is a nuisance. I'm far more productive without all the GUI crap.
Re:Poll: Do you have a Facebook account?

You can do that on Google+ too but with the privacy of not letting certain "circles" know things you don't want them to know or it's irrelevant.
Re:Crowd Investing: Wefunder

You still can. My company, for instance, has but two investors holding all company stock. My wife and me. If we wished, we could sell a portion of our company to others even though it is not publicly traded. Privately held companies like ours can still sell portions of their company to other investors, or even take investment capital without selling private stock.

While Google makes the news on this, everyone loves to forget every marketing firm in the world has been collecting exactly the same data on them since the stone age.
And being able to collect the data about them to serve better results is a business decision. Some may like or dislike it's done that way but it's no different than liking/disliking any product you use now.

Re:Request for Startups: Kill Hollywood.

Reading through that, it shows the writer has no clue how entertainment is created. It looks like he feels it can be manufactured by anyone with a slight interest in the subject. I doubt anyone here, save @Keyframe, has ever been on a set to see the hundreds involved at every skill level to put together a motion picture. Or the large group needed to put together any TV show.
Kill Hollywood? That's like saying kill Silicon Valley. And equally as stupid.
Re:Request for Startups: Kill Hollywood.
on Saturday January 21, 2012 @01:51PM (#3494245)
There's a reason why there are hundreds of out of work writers. Good scripts are hard to write, as is good music. If you think a million monkeys can do better, think again.
Re:Request for Startups: Kill Hollywood.
on Saturday January 21, 2012 @01:48PM (#3494232)
As you know, though, the cost of film and development is hardly worth talking about, particularly in big budget motion pictures. Shooting video, nowadays, is a convenience mostly. The cameras are far more expensive, as is the support equipment, but transmitting completed video and editing is far cleaner.
