Purchased. Great to see VR game innovation on HN. Nice work.
Which Brooks saddle do you recommend? I see there are a few variations available.

It’s likely the built-in display is also fractionally scaling. IIRC it has been that way by default for several generations of MBP now.

Really useful to hear about your experiences actually coding. None of the video reviews have touched on this, so thanks for that.

With regards the ‘smearing’, not sure how familiar you are with VR tech but, could you characterise it further?

Some things it may be off the top of my head:

Is it the display not switching pixel state fast enough? This was a problem with early Oculus headsets until we figured out how to strobe displays for ‘low persistence’.

Or, is it eye tracking lag, resulting in the foveated rendering not keeping up with where you are looking quickly enough? Human eyes can move extremely quickly from point-to-point (called saccades).

Be great to get your thoughts on the possible cause / tech limitations.

Re:Protonmail Is Down on Tuesday July 25, 2023 @08:40AM (#36861370)
Is anyone else tired of the euphamisms SaaS companies and cloud providers use when they have an incident like this?

Whether it's, "experiencing technical difficulties", "Degraded performance", "Increased error rates", "Access will be delayed" or whatever - they all mean the same thing...

The service is down.

So why not just be straight with your customers?

Not a fan of the corp b.s. My 2p anyway.

(Context, for what it's worth: Paying Protonmail customer, on the 'visionary plan'.)

Sounds interesting! What were you using for the display processor?

Fascinating. Hadn’t thought about the pacing factor.

So given this is the case, how does any advertiser scale up their spending without getting disillusioned and abandoning FB ads?

What did you use for UI in the end?
I have wondered for a while if there is a market for a no-frills vehicle.

A modern engine and chassis, etc. but with minimal, tactile, and easily serviceable controls.

Blockchains are currently implemented with a Merkle tree at each block, and Merkle proofs are used to store the transactions in that block.

Re:Code Keyboards on Monday March 30, 2015 @11:39AM (#9290221)
Not everyone is a touch-typist (although I recently put in the effort to finally learn - highly recommended).

Also, there are some weird keys out of reach from the home row you may need every now and then - the fn keys on a Mac being a good example. Turning volume up/down in very low lighting is a pain if you can't see the keys.

That said, I found the blue LEDs of the Macbook keyboard backlight to be too bright when used in combination with flux on lowest screen brightness, so I wrote a small command line app to reduce it below the minimum normally permitted by the function keys: https://github.com/drhaynes/brightness.c

How would this work for a 2x as strong person lifting twice as much mass as a normal person? Wouldn't that data look essentially the same?
Re:14 Reasons You’re Tired All the Time on Monday June 09, 2014 @03:31PM (#7870034)
If you're on Linux, Redshift is a good alternative to Flux. It's in Fedora and Ubuntu package managers - 'yum install redshift' or 'apt-get install redshift' respectively (if memory serves).
Re:Haskell Cheat Sheet [pdf] on Saturday April 12, 2014 @02:21AM (#7577151)
Would really like to see an equivalent 'idiomatic' cheatsheet written by yourself.

It would be ideal for seasoned developers that want to quickly get up to speed on Haskell (such as myself).

Re:Why I killed my standing desk on Sunday March 23, 2014 @11:21AM (#7453641)
One more data point: Made the switch about two years ago here. At the time I was already fairly athletic, with normal BMI and in my mid twenties.

The first two weeks were incredibly difficult. After that you could feel the adaption kicking in, and by about a month I was able to stand for six hours at a time - punctuated by the usual trips to the kitchen and toilet several times per day of course.

Forget getting into the zone in this time. Compared with my peers, I would say I'm fast to adapt physically to new 'stresses' (from weight training and running in my experience), so I would judge this to be towards the 'best case' end of the scale.

Definitely agree that the author of this post threw in the towel too early. Standing for a full day is no mean feat. You wouldn't expect to run a marathon after two weeks of training having never run before.

Looks like questions have been added to the article now.
They aren't, but it still affects the decision makers at the top who are supposed to be driving the vision of the company.

> Or just use Unity.

I'm curious how you deploy to the non-smartphone devices with Unity, as it only has iOS and Android target support built in.

Do you use the output of some other target's build with your own glue libs for each supported device? Or are there Unity plugins for this kind of thing? Or is it some other kind of wizardry?
