The social media side I think is more about imposing scarcity on digital assets. What does it mean when only 10 of your followers will Get to see the thing you posted?
Totally fair. I’m not sure either!
A sunset from our lake house this past weekend, as winter's closing in. The format - views degrade the image - meant to be a study in digital impermanence, and make when you see a post a relevant part of the social media experience. 10 views is an extreme example, but you get the idea. Every time someone views the image for the first time, the image will get slightly blurrier.

This had far less macross saga than I'd hoped!
Yeah - the aging filter is really tough. I'll keep playing around with it, and added some others in the meantime.
Sunset hour at Victoria Beach, Summer 2026, Kiteboarders. Set to fade with "Rain" filter over the next 4 hours, from roughly the time of this post.
You can also experiment with the different fading techniques without joining, available here:

Many of the fades are public already and work well, my ahab and the whale is the "aging" fade which has proven hard to nail

Show HN: Digital scarcity; app where photos gradually decay with time / views

https://joinfaded.com/

Like instagram, but all photos have a shelf life: they can be up for year, an hour or ten minutes, or up until they're viewed 100 times, 1000 times or a million times, etc.The longer they're up, the more they fade - user chosen filters are applied gradually over the lifetime of the photo (be it measured in clicks or time), gradually obscuring it. At the end of its lifetime, the pictures faded /...

Why do people conflate AGI & machine consciousness / self-awareness?
Re:America.gov – Whatever you need from government, start here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @11:58AM (#49895552)
I've tried it - I've been playing around with a vibe coded application that crawls municipal websites, indexes and embeds, and then does rag retrieval. It came from the need to dig up specific information that's scattered across PDFs, multiple web pages, etc. - exactly as you described. AI does a decent job (w/ RAG) of synthesizing.

how do i report a noise complaint?

It depends on the type of noise:

- Loud party or people-related noise: call the Winnipeg Police Service non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.

- Animals making unreasonably loud, unnecessary or excessive noises: report it through 3-1-1.

- Mechanical equipment noise like furnaces or air conditioners, or noise from construction tools used by a company or resident: contact Community By-law Enforcement Services at 3-1-1.

- Planned event noise: you may need a Noise Permit at no cost, but it is not for construction work and should be submitted at least four weeks before the event.

The City also says noise-generating activities within 150 metres of a residential property are generally prohibited before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m. on weekdays, and before 9 a.m. and after 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.

YMMV. A big part of the backend is categorizing hits and misses, with an eye to helping municipalities clean up conflicting information, fill obvious gaps, etc.

Cheers!
Does running a proprietary system rule out competition and restrict you to recreation? I have no idea what the FIFA-equivalents is for bowling, but I imagine there is one, and I imagine that it has a list of rules for lanes to qualify as competition venues, including scoring systems from approved vendors, etc.

Not sure if any of that's relevant to you!

Re:I manage teams without a single call on Monday May 25, 2026 @12:22PM (#48268630)
Some kind of work can live in this "put it in a well structured & considered ticket" mode, some cannot. If this is your style and you've found a place where it works, fantastic, but I don't believe this to be generalizable.

Re:Lamborghini cancels their multi-year EV project on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @12:27PM (#47139864)
I share your opinons! And, I have an EV - its a wonderfully utilitarian, fantastically reliable, incredibly cheap transportation device. But its a passion-inducing as driving a golf cart - all utility, no drama, no experience.

I don't think Lamborghini etc will close up - I think they'll just get more and more expensive as ICE engines get penalized in more markets.

Re:Lamborghini cancels their multi-year EV project on Monday February 23, 2026 @10:51PM (#47132652)
If there's a place for ICE in the future, I have to say its in limited production, bespoke passion vehicles.
