Re:Ask HN: What's your favourite podcast? on Wednesday December 22, 2010 @05:29AM (#2031010)
Mysterious Universe (Plus+) for a healthy dose of paranormal entertainment. The hosts are (most of the time) aware of the fact that alot of the things they cover are pretty dumb, and they do laugh of it. It's one of the more professional podcasts I've ever listened to, sound quality is excellent, the music is good, and the hosts are really funny. Check it out!

Also, to feed my hunger for gadgetery, "The 404" and "Buzz out loud" from cNet.

And if you're into history Dan Carlin has two podcasts, "Common sense", about US politics, and "Hardcore History" on history. Good shows by a smart host.

Drive safely, and merry christmas!

I can't, my university won't let me take harder courses. I've taken the hardest courses I can. And I've talked with the councilors, and they tell me to just wait till next semester - "that's when the real fun starts" - but I don't think so.

I'd have to move to get another option.

I haven't done any real research into the whole visa-business, but I really should do that soon;) Is it not true that it's easier to get a visa if you already have a company that has agreed to let you work with them?

I know that, but I don't want to start a company, just get a job, any IT-related job.

Ask HN: Should I get my degree or not?

Hello hackers! This is almost like a follow-up to this thread http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1438489, but my questions are not quite the same, neither are my goals.I'm 21 years old and live in Norway. For all my life I've loved computers, and everything else with ICs in it. I learned BASIC programming at the age of 10 by editing games and finding out what happened if I did this or that.The...

A new(?) way of pricing ads

Hi! I am currently working on a webapp that delievers news to users. The project is merely a hobby, but it might be fun to make a few bucks off it as well. I won't go into details on the app, lets just say if you like tech-news, thats what you get, if you like tech and science, you get science as well.Lately I've been thinking of introducing ads, and how to make it blend with the real conten....

Re:Command line google search in a shell with perl on Saturday December 05, 2009 @06:44PM (#978848)
This is pretty easy using batch scripts in windows as well:

START www.google.com/search?q=%1+%2+%3+%4+%5+%6+%7+%8+%9

Paste into google.bat and enjoy.

Please explain:)
Actually, I find HN to be the perfect mix of world news, economics, math papers and programming stuff, so no. And I don't fall into any of the "types" listed, I'm a CS-student (at least in one month I am), and don't have any serious plans of starting a company;)
Just ordered mine, don't have any specific plans for it just yet, just tought it might come in handy during summer-boredom. And at that price, incl shipping (to Norway!), it really was a no-brainer;)

But I do have a question that I couldn't find an answer for on their page, can it run without being connected to a computer? Can i just mount it with a 5V battery and send it on my verry own Mars-mission?o0

Given that I just ordered it I havent googled it that much, but do anyone have any blogs/communities they can recommend for reading/getting help/getting ideas/brainstorming?

Re:Ask HN: What podcasts do you subscribe to? on Sunday March 29, 2009 @11:03PM (#538124)
Java Posse, Drunk and Retired, and StackOverflow for IT-stuff.

1-UP (games), Dan Carlin's hardcore history (history podcast) and Common sense with Dan Carlin (politics) for fun;)

Re:Ask HN: What security software/configurations do you use? on Saturday January 24, 2009 @11:47PM (#448727)
For five (I think) years I've used nothing but ZoneAlarm, no antivirus, no spyware-removal-tools. And - as far as I know - I've never had a single virus/trojan. Being a geek surfing the net is something i do every day, and a lot of it, but my belief is that as long as you're carefull, you're OK.
