post now hidden;
for my digital footprint's sake this was an off-handed late night comment expressing my disdain for poor writing in Ready Player 2 & personal thoughts on the novel.
zero. most hardware is not something you can play with easily anymore. Everyone who knew how to do that grew up and put the hardware behind profitable walled gardens
sorry, hyperbole. don't mean that seriously. I was VERY much not a fan of RP2; I'm sure Neal could be a stand-up guy, just sarcasm that didn't land.
where'd you find out about this algolia link? any other cool HN-adjacent tools that might not be well known?
lmao. noted
crazy how influential that little book is. funny enough, I grew up on Ready Player One, and by the time i got old enough to start seriously getting into tech, reading Snow Crash was like re-reading RP1 but if RP1 was actually a good story and not written by an incel copying Neal Stephenson.

I thought it was the right amount to get the point across. Anything else I'd add on that specific topic can probably be found in another blog, so I only wrote on what I thought would add value for the reader (assuming they're on HackerNews, in VC, etc.)
Thanks for giving it a read, though! More stuff to come, and longer content too :)

over half developed in a statistically significant way that is lower than the expected "bottom half"
further, if your last question is not rhetorical, I support them in retrospect because I view things from an apolitical lens and think it was the best attempt at a societal cooperation to save lives. Yes, there were negative results, but there were also overflowing hospitals in 99.9% of the country
they empirically saved lives and were based on the best available scientific recommendations at the time. Their factual basis is not a matter of opinion.
Whether the opportunity cost of risking lives outweighed the cost of re-opening, second lockdowns, etc. is a whole different topic, but if you're speaking to the first "two week lockdown" then it is no question.
Somebody read Snow Crash.... ?
yk what you're so right. I should think like this more often thank you man
eh. I was raised watching the iphones go from 1 to 15 while the numbers kinda lined up with my grade levels, so for context I feel like I've seen both sides of the coin when it comes to kids & phones.
I believe in what you're saying, to an extent, and even am grinding my schoolwork with a flip phone, but at this point I think the onus is on the parents to encourage productive habits and make the kid understand WHY the addictiveness is so implicit and dangerous.
if you don't have anything to replace the scrolling with, you will return to scrolling.
best of luck with the kids, imho meditation worked best for me kicking my phone addiction
they're not saying it because microeconomic pressures result in a system where YouTube is unenjoyable or expensive.
As humans, we can organize this system to be an enjoyable, free tool, and Google won't be terribly affected by the minor loss in profits
but instead,
the pressures of capitalism drive innovation to optimize for an undesirable outcome.
this isn't negative commentary on capitalism itself, but a roundabout way of saying Google is fucking greedy, I'm a student, and nobody should ever have to pay 9 bucks for youtube.

hmm. I suppose a sentient ant may not reach a Nash equilibrium, but the best equilibrium. Then through that lens, yeah. I can see how you see it as human nature.
imho, you're wrong:
it may not be "human nature" as much as it is prisoner's dilemma.
few, but some, humans are just as inherently averse to corruption as someone may be inherently prone to it. it's a matter of "if I don't take this bribe, someone else will"
Working on cubesat club for my university. Helped me get 2nd round internship interview @ Mr. Beast studios. not sure if this counts since internship + haven't got job yet, but I think it played a big role in helping me advance.
