Yeah, the typography choices here are poor. Nice idea but readability on mobile isn’t great sadly.

  "Why do I give a busker money when I could play the real track on spotify."
It is more like "Why do I give money to someone playing a track on Spotify when I could play that track on Spotify."

Same. Into my second decade with them. Great value, no real complaints.

Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:03AM (#50127812)
My first and only Waymo was in SF last week. The 25 minute walk was also a 20 min drive. Great. Took 45 minutes of odd detours and sudden reroutes to get from Ferry Building to the hotel.
Re:Nitter: Update Oct 10th seeking funding and legal help on Sunday October 11, 2026 @09:55AM (#50043346)
You’re not identifying as a lawyer so please understand it’s much more complicated than that.

I’m not a lawyer but I’ve been involved with litigation between publishers and tech companies regarding scraped content.

It’s much more complicated than you’d ever think.

Personally, I think Nitter is in a strong position.

Hyperion, by Dan Simmons

I had just finished the first "Dungeon Crawler Carl" and found it harmless and not worth the money. Frankly I'm a little surprised its a best seller. Do the later books get any better?

Hyperion is a first-time read and as I near the end I know I'll seek out the next one.

Re:America.gov – Whatever you need from government, start here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @11:23AM (#49894916)
USA.gov = 800KB

america.gov = 25MB (before you start scrolling)

Feels janky too.

Re:Steam Frame starts at $1059 on Monday September 14, 2026 @11:09PM (#49707243)
Anyone recommend light-weight VR (or AR) setup that’s just good for watching movies on a big screen? Nothing fancy just good for that and portable.
It was not paywalled for me. To your other point, sure, but you can see the normal rate of cancer in a population over time and then see the spikes in the years directly after 2001.

The distinction is that the strongest evidence is among responders, workers, residents, and others who were directly exposed, rather than showing that cancer suddenly increased across all of NYC.

Re:The two Christian saints who are the Buddha on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @01:23PM (#49613426)
I love how the article is “isn’t that neat?” and never touches upon any self-awareness that perhaps many religions are nothing more than stories.
What I want is a tiny portable bluetooth jammer for those who insist everyone in public must be listening to their music. Sadly they are too clunky to haul around each day.

"feels intentionally cruel"

They are intentionally cruel. Its the point. They aren't even trying to hide it. The posts on official Whitehouse X account are borderline gleeful on topics of deportation and immigration. I'm in dis-belief at times.

Re:Why some US restaurants are banning tips on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:13AM (#49431932)
If I go to a restaurant and it’s all handled through a tablet I leave. I can get that treatment at the airport.
