(US) Major League Baseball has the "National" and "American" leagues, and the "World's Championship Games" between the two leagues which began in 1903 evolved into the "World Series".

Canada also has a team, the Toronto Blue Jays, so pedantically, yes, there are more countries.

The World Series is the championship of US baseball, between the best teams in the two leagues, but there's unfortunately no championship crossover with other countries professional baseball leagues like Japan, Mexico, Caribbean leagues, etc.

2022 has Spy++ v17, 2010 has Spy++ v10 with no visual differences, but yeah, still using the old MDI gui for both.
Re:A tribute to one of the best games on the Atari 2600 on Monday October 05, 2026 @12:41PM (#49967192)
The Atari cheated too; Pitfall II used a David Crane-designed DPC chip [0], Atari's SARA Superchip on a number of the later carts like Crystal Castles and Jr. Pac-Man, and the Starpath Supercharger's [1] games were undeniably bigger and better looking.

The VCS released in 1978, Pitfall II in 1984 which shows the idea of offloading processing and memory came a looong way in just 4 years between Pitfall II, Nintendo's MMC1 in stuff like Legend of Zelda (1986) and the MMC3 in SMB3 (1988). Crane's DPC wasn't officially patented until 1987, the video game gap between 1984-88 is still mind-boggling.

Hell, I'd shop them around to transit authorities. Gorgeous photos, awesome hardware and processing techniques that went into them.

Burning man livestream here, still early and setting up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BgytKvsORM

Page says it's on "Chomolungma" but it's "Ceiba" on the maps, just in case you can spot the phone on the stream.

Relatable path here. Fairchild Channel F, the cat chased the pixels around the Bell and Howell console screen. Hid the 2600 box in the garage rafters from my mom to cover up the purchase. My dad made an 2600 controller using big industrial panel pushbuttons for the directions and a sturdy red clicky button, trying for a good Defender controller but panel buttons were just not meant for fast gameplay.
I read the Paranoia, Send in the Clones and numerous other supplements back-to-back as a kid and Warren Spector became a notable name for me. Writing and humor felt a lot like Douglas Adams lite, and made the prospects of living in a underground apocalyptic dystopia really hilarious. As someone mentioned, his CV is stellar; you could almost compare him to Kubrick or maybe Guillermo del Toro at the least.
Re:Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @10:11AM (#49345901)
People were still replacing their 14.4k modems with 28.8s in 1996. I remember seeing the Quake 15 x 1.44 zips on local BBSes, which would've taken at least 3.5 hours over a perfect 14.4 connection so definitely a daunting phone line tie-up for the average kid (I had the CD.)
Gary Coleman and Mary Carey both ran. There's always Vermin Supreme.

Some of the photosynthesis zoom-ins have overlays take a bit longer to load at higher resolution.
I remember when we gave a shit about "emoluments."
Re:The Kids' Guide to Piracy on Friday July 24, 2026 @02:12PM (#49039565)
This. VPNs are an absolute necessity for torrenting pirate content from public trackers, otherwise you're sure to get a Cease & Desist letter mailed to the house and risk getting your parents' internet disconnected. I know it's a "kids guide," but more emphasis should be made on VPN basics, such as binding the VPN port to torrent client.

Re:Show HN: An 8-bit live gamecast for baseball on Thursday June 18, 2026 @10:15AM (#48585724)
Suggestion to make the Upcoming Games tiles fade out as a group or rotate and show games past the initial five of the day. Also, team W-L records where pertinent and real estate might allow?

One thing that stuck with me is the font rendering of the flashing "Mid 5th" screen banner on the game field view, was displayed as Helvetica/Arial vs one of the in-game fonts.

Be interesting to see enemies take friendly fire, and possibly suppress fire if the shot on the player isn't clear?

You can leave a bottle of Topo open room temperature for two days and by some magic it'll still be surprisingly carbonated.

US McValue meals (my local location, ymmv): $6 for a McDouble, small Fries, 4 nuggets and small drink. $5 for a McChicken, small fries, 4 nuggets and small drink. $2.50 for a McDouble itself.

Nah, those were a classy touch. IIRC it was some Thomas Kinkade-lookin' bullshit.

Definitely a trip back in time, I did a website almost exactly the same for Bernese mountain dogs except without the flame background.

Killers are going to kill. Guns don't democratize it, just makes it easier. Maybe at best YOU could kill one or two:

https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/16/china/china-stabbing-yixing-c... (8 stabbed to death) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chenpeng_Village_Primary_Schoo... (1 killed, 24 injured)

So they should stop you from 3d-printing knives too.

As a Yank, first thought that came to mind was using geolocation by mains hum because you can.
