I once read, UK was the first in the industrial revolution and the first to get out of it. Maybe Europe has just gone post-hardware. Not sure it will work though...

You just made my day, beautifully said. Thank you Sir, for all your thoughts expressed in this thread. You put an human story behind the #180 number.

Re:US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:26AM (#49713058)
Nothing to worry about, General Turgidson said it was just made in order to prevent a space gap.

It's defensive language for sure, i don't know how much it adds of protection in reality, but i nonethelesss sympathize with the author if he feels the need to protect himself that way or signaling the risk he takes.
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Thursday August 27, 2026 @03:52AM (#49461344)
Nvidia for Hugging Face will be even worse than Microsoft for Github and we now know how low the bar is here.
What's the point of Android if not of being open?!! I don't see any value for them to be closed or combative. It's sad to see Google, once the greatest company on earth, lose absolutely everything of what they made them great in just a matter of a couple of years.

  > Approx. battery life: 2 years on CR2016
Not bad!
Re:OnePlus halts operations in USA and Europe on Thursday July 16, 2026 @09:26AM (#48934244)
You're likely right but i think if you had to fail at least fail for something meaningful. It was crazy thinking it could work anyway, same for makers like Nothing, i feel their fate is written in stone, at least try something really different instead of gimmicks.

Why none of these Chinese brands doesn't try to set themselves apart, and dare i say innovate by making a true open phone, documented hw, etc, with at least an open version of android, i don't even ask for one of the true Linux OSes.

An outgoing foreign affairs editor suggested in 1988 that the newspaper ‘never saw a war it didn’t like’. 𐞸

𐞸 https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsereviewofbooks/2020/05/27/book-rev...

𐞸 Maybe outdated regarding the later conflicts (tbh i don't know, i didn't follow their positions on the Ukraine and the Middle-East wars).

0-days-vibes-vulns? There should be a new category, for spotting and handling the em-dashes of this brave new world of vulns and making the old fossils like me only picking my head up for the old painfully still hand-crafted artisanal ones instead. A kind of label, like free-range for eggs, in sum.

But back then the contemporaneous llm was the single digit mb file word_list.txt.

To me one shot prompting is as relevant as Strava's KOM is for cycling, i'm more interested in a good cycling performance after a 3 hours ride than a straight up 30 min record effort.
Re:Buy a train, bridge or tracks from the Swiss Railway on Wednesday June 10, 2026 @09:01AM (#48475670)
Someone should definitely forward this to Kim Jong Un, maybe they also make a custom armored version.
This is imperialism mentality, there are much divide in US politics and society but they seem to agree on trying to dominate and berate the UE in particular. I see it displayed even among progressive commentators it doesn't surprise me it is also reflected among progressive companies. But as soon as it comes to Trump or to China then it is not the same rethoric, stance, rashness at all. This selected stances and courages don't impress me at all. I also don't have much sympathy for Europe here, i guess Europe got what it deserves when you accept and do nothing to escape the fate to be a vassal you are rightfully treated like a vassal, nothing more.
It must be to prevent corporate spying ;)

For which France was helped by the UK, so it certainly would make sense if France helped the europe and uk to build its own nuclear deterrence.

Mass fun. Starred.

While it can very well be true, I wonder if we don't exagerate the will of the iranian regime and its ablity in the current time to think this far ahead. I see them more in survival mode, I'm not sure they fight for future deterence, maybe the goals align currently but seems to me to be happenstance. They seem resilient but I wonder how much they would be close of falling. Of course, I wouldn't have done this war, and I certainly would stop it now.

I feel you, I guess i succeeded in not being lost and keep reading by solving the conendrum in telling myself: it certainly should take time to grow the cows for the bags. Nonetheless I'm glad i finished reading it, it was a good essay.
One gotta give it to them, advanced flow, what a great new double-speak-ism, would have made the ministry of truth very very proud.

Great rules, but Rule 3.: WOW, so true, so well enunciated, masterful.
Re:Building a Shell on Tuesday March 17, 2026 @01:33PM (#47415749)
Is there a (real) shell whose code is relatively short and self contained and would be valuable to read? This was always something I wanted to do but never quite spent time to look for a good one to explore.
Re:The 49MB Web Page on Monday March 16, 2026 @05:19AM (#47396707)
I don't understand all these sites with moving parts even with muted soon, like if everything was a collection of GIFs. NYT followed this path and started to insert muted clips preheminently on their page one, very very annoying.
It is like a guy seeing headlines "wapo is losing" money and feeling ashamed in its "genius entrepreneur's ego / could never be wrong" and taking revenge on whoever he can take revenge and inflict pain just for the sake of it.
It is vibe justice for people, when you run Agents and don't check by yourself the code produced or the people jailed. Despite the appearancs your program don't really work and soon or later you find it to your expense.
Sometimes life is also to let it express partial, unfinished ideas, opinions and maybe later let our brain refine them on its own tempo. It never has been uncommon.

It will go as long as certificates chains are valid.
