Real Engineers at work.
I think it is great that they are forced to show whats going one. Otherwise we wouldnt even discuss, just no one would care.
They should just pull a Trump and call IT a Deal.
First quote from Google-Search: "The International Olympic Committee (IOC) generated US$902 million in revenue for the 2023 financial year."

Re:Omnivore Is Joining ElevenLabs on Tuesday October 29, 2024 @03:59PM (#41988664)
Yes, just as it is right now I would love a cheap alternative. No need for fancy speech or AI features from my Side. Do one thing and do it good...
Re:Omnivore Is Joining ElevenLabs on Tuesday October 29, 2024 @01:30PM (#41987111)
Too bad... I also really liked it and used. Seems like I go for wallabag again. Maybe it will be possible to selfhost omnivore at some point in time ?!
Re:Syncthing Android App Discontinued on Sunday October 20, 2024 @04:08PM (#41898133)
Once again, Im also in the niche of avoiding pay-for dozens of small services and just getting my simple stuff synced. Bam, another blowback. Im eager to ready what alternatives HN crowd might come up with....
It strange how little news coverage this situation gets in the rest of the world...
Re:New car buying guide: the algorithm on Monday February 26, 2024 @05:31AM (#39509631)
> ...who enjoys the process of going to a car dealership and doing the awkward dance of trying not to get ripped off.

This. The point is, once you are old enough and have heared enough success-stories of extroverts going full "Grand Bazaar"-Style... you are just frustrated if you know that you are going to loose against all these dark-patterns. There´s a reason why they can buy italian soccer-teams without really "producing" anything.

I´ll gladly throw my money on anyone who is going to take these dealerships out of the algorithm. I know that just someone else will get rich... but hey, Tesla might at least use this money e.g. for product-development etc..

Oh my ..., was skipping too fast through the page and didn´t see this, and also didn´t realize what he exactly is doing with his Textbook Manifesto etc. Ok, the Paypal-Link is a no-brainer for me now. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.
Re:Think Python, 3rd Edition on Friday February 16, 2024 @03:29AM (#39394560)
I love the Jupyter-/Colab-approach and would like to join the journey... and support the project by buying the book (although I don´t need it to follow the Colab?). But without subscribing to the OReilly-learning platform it seems that buying it on amazon is the only option, right ?

Re:Quake3e, a modern Quake III Arena engine on Saturday May 15, 2021 @01:36AM (#27162713)
Cool, but Im not up2date anymore since a decade. Could someone give me a hint where still to get a few nice maps and mods for a retro session with Friends?
Re:How to turn off Android TV's homescreen ads, 'staff picks' on Wednesday August 19, 2020 @12:45PM (#24212502)
This. Unfortunately, it seems hard to find dumb but quality TVs?!
Re:How to stop procrastinating by using the Fogg Behavior Model on Wednesday August 12, 2020 @08:06AM (#24131183)
Does anyone here have solid resources on this topic in german language ?
Nice idea, does anyone have an idea what german-language learning sites have a point-system ?

Could you elaborate which devops headaches got solved ? :)
Re:Broot – A new way to see and navigate directory trees on Thursday January 09, 2020 @02:46AM (#21999276)
Hmm, looks nice, maybe its time to kick my old (ls,less,vi) workflow :) Btw, anyone using this with another pager for fast source-code viewing ?

Re:Ask HN: Low-maintenance alternatives to Gmail? on Tuesday July 03, 2018 @07:17AM (#17449221)
Ohhh, this ASK-HN is godsend :D Im in a similar situation and was evaluating several approaches. I want some decent e-mailing for my whole family (with an own domain) and at a reasonable price (just want to pay it on my own and not billing my family). So most providers are out because of per-user/mailbox pricing. With 4-5 family members its just way to expensive with most of them. I was just going to start with https://mailcow.email/ on a cheap vps. But thanks to this thread I will also be evaluating migadu, seems a nice fit with even less hassle for me.
Uh ok, but ss -atpn isnt very readable on my terminal due to linewrap. Anyone with suggestions ?
Re:Turkey's Erdogan restricting the internet on Monday March 05, 2018 @06:40AM (#16520357)

The costs, Hyper-V is included in Win10.
Re:Show HN: Shiori – Simple self hosted bookmarks manager on Thursday March 01, 2018 @07:59AM (#16491557)
Seems like a more powerful replacement for the nextcloud bookmarks app which I use. But a bookmarklet would really ease the workflow.
It always comes down to "You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide", "Just trust us and our ability to keep off free-riders" Once again I really would like to stop giving admin-privileges to any windows-app that I would like to use... but otherwise, I couldn´t do anything with this piece of hardware :)
Re:Ivy – A static website generator built in Python on Sunday January 28, 2018 @09:51AM (#16251484)
Sorry for offtopic, but I´ve seen many nice-looking website generators here, but being a backend-guy I struggle more with the frontend, getting a nice layout/theme/font without deepdiving into css/js/html. Any suggestions here ? Any Wysiwyg-Editor which generates a reasonable output ?
