The promo video looks like to be shot in Prague, but feels somehow 'off', does it have some ai edits?
From wiki:
* born with cerebral palsy
* adopted, parents separated while 2 mths old, raised only by his mother
* his mother disabled since he was 13, had to assume financial responsibility for her and his then 2yr old sister
That must have been a very difficult life, hats off to him.
"Lately I’ve been feeling I came in at the end, the best is over."
Unlike other commenters, I do not mind the ai-ness of this app. This is a quick solution to a problem that we should not have had in the first place.
They launch from Guiana afaik
How can you verify, that the model that you are buying is the one that you are actually getting?
I would have preferred the old one because of battery life. I wear watch to know the time by just glancing on it, so always on is a must for me. It looks nice though.
Still, even with always on, I do 4-5 days between charges with normal use. I recommend watch face 'portal hybrid', which seems to have a slightly lower refresh rate (who cares), but you gain a day of battery compared to stock.
I actually had Fenix 6 before and did and impulsive upgrade to Fenix 8 while diving on holidays. I'm very happy with it, including the microphone, sometimes even use it to take calls, it is surprisingly handy when e.g. holding a kid in one hand.
^ Great observation.
I have a Garmin Fenix 8, but if it would not have a flashlight, vibration alarm and sleep tracking, I'd happily swap it for a mechanical watch as a daily driver.
(obviously still using the Garmin for workouts)

The creepy ai slop woman?
Recently I was shopping for curtains. Even though the shop I found has great reviews and a physical showroom with a real person, I took my business elsewhere when the web looks like this:
https://en.vorhangbox.ch/curtain-home-consultation/ .
Why would you do this to your business? I always found generic photobank stuff to be the worst, but apparently the bar can go lower.
Of course everyone cares about looks. But the original poster says 'above other considerations'. For example I'd take an ugly noiseless laptop over a slick one with fans.
Also, very often, looks go hand in hand with build quality.
Does anybody have experience with filing just the 'trackpad corners' on a dark-colored macbook?
I am in neither of these and nor is any of the many people I know with macbooks. I honestly do not understand why any average person would buy anything else than a macbook today.
Great article and happy to see that I'm not alone. I don't get why on such a well thought-out and built device as this, the corners are so sharp.
From how I use the trackpad, the bottom of my thumb always feels sore-ish after a day's work and it took me a while to trace this to the sharp cornern of my macbook.
I use browser only, then it is fairly easy to vibcode a userscript blocker, which does more or less the same as this app. It syncs between all devices as well. Of course, one can always turn userscripts off, but the pause to think helps already.

For me, this is the maxim that governs speaking with someone defending a totalitarian regime.
If the person has no issue that people have to be kept by force INSIDE for the country to function, then we have a fundamental disagreement on what is good and what is bad and any further discussion is a waste of time.
Lot of hate on Garmin sleep tracking in this thread, but I love it.
Maybe it is not super accurate, but it was eye-opening for me to see how the score changes for the worse even with a little bit of alcohol. I am way more careful with when and how much I drink since I've started wearing a Fenix 6 few years back
But you know this in advance! Try booking with Swiss, you also get a ton of upsell on insurance, car rental and what not. Then you sit in their business class seat and get an advert screened infront of you that you cannot skip. That makes me angry, not Ryanair.
If by 'the gutter' you mean cheaper - thanks Ryanair! I don't like the experience of flying either, but there is no denying that it is accessible to anybody today, 20 yrs ago it was still a luxury.
Regarding the destinations, yes, Emirates does not fly from Memmingen to Stanstead. But why would anybody, unless they live in the village next to either.
I don't understand this hate on Ryanair. Just treat it for what it is, a super cheap airline if you avoid all the upsells. No one is being forced do fly with them.
On my phone, I have a faceid requirement on basically any app, so getting it ripped off my hands would be just a minor inconvenience.
Laptop on the other hand...
Many times working on the train i've been thinking about some accelerometer based emergency lockdown. Can't be that hard to do.
Agreed, as long as it has a low input latency and allows me to do some basic key re-mapping, I don't really care. Used iterm for a long time as well, but have not touched 95% of the features and it was just a distraction.
I used iterm2 for ages, but then somehow defaulted to terminal.app. It is fast and that is basically all i need from a terminal emulator, everything else is taken care of by tmux.
I was motivated to learn Dvorak in order to get rid of bad keyboard habits. And happily stuck to it. Not sure that I type any faster, but it feels somehow as a more rhytmical, much more pleasant experience.
This is called 'security thorough obscurity' - no one can mess with your computer in case that you forget to lock it (e.g. when you go make yourself coffee at work).
