Thank you for sending that. Of course looking at it from both angles couldn't hurt.

I keep coming back to the fact that the main point of a mask is to prevent you from touching your own nose and mouth --- NOT to keep the virus from passing directly to your nose and mouth (or vice versa). Advice from doctor who studied coronaviruses for 50 years: https://halegenic.com/coronavirus-covid-19/
I do understand, however, that my point is moot when you consider direct contact with an infected person who is coughing and/or sneezing without cover (and again vice versa).
Re:Ask HN: What remote collaboration software is everyone using?

Teams primarily. Still getting used to using calls but it's been pretty slick so far. Wish we were using Slack however, simply because I find it much more intuitive

Re:New technology turns everyday trash into plastic treasure
on Tuesday November 19, 2019 @02:16PM (#21577005)
If it turns out to be sound, I think it's a step in the right direction: "Substituting a ton of UBQ’s pellets for the same amount of polypropylene saves the equivalent of about 15 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, Quantis concluded; adding as little as 10 percent of its material can make the result carbon neutral, depending on the type of plastic being created."
Ultimately we need a solution that does not create more plastic, but that's just my uninformed opinion.
Re:Ask HN: Have You Upgraded to macOS Catalina Yet?

No - the new features don't outweigh the potential headache for me. I don't see the point right now, other than getting rid of the annoying popup (but still nowhere near as annoying as the windows update popups were haha).

Related: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21397274. TLDR; CodeFund sounds interesting. There's also AdThrive, MediaVine, Media.net

I have Ezoic on my site and make about $70/mo. Overall goal is to get rid of ads altogether, but before that I'm looking at MediaVine and/or AdThrive

I'm only familiar with AdThrive and MediaVine, and certainly it depends on the niche, but most folks make significantly more. I know someone who jumped 5x when they switched. Just a heads up though, the requirements are higher: AdThrive requires 100,000 monthly views and MediaVine requires 25,000 sessions.

Consider AdThrive, MediaVine, Media.net, and Monumetric
Re:Ask HN: How did you build up your personal knowledge base?
on Wednesday October 23, 2019 @02:36PM (#21337458)
You could look at MediWiki (same software Wikipedia uses). GitHub flavored markdown can be installed, I know because I've done it. I have it installed on my own domain, therefore accessible across devices...you'll have to look at LaTeX and images, but I'm fairly sure it can be done. Search capability is great!
