More so a model where if I say own a business, want a pool of independent contractors I've vetted to view jobs, and give them an opportunity to pick up and perform a job. Example is something like Handy.com but more niche for a solo business.

Fabrice Grinda has some interesting content on YouTube and his website regarding marketplace/platforms. Does anyone know of any Shopify equivalent marketplace model that would enable one to build a niche version of Thumbtack?

Ask HN: What are subscription eCommerce platforms like Member.ly?
Looking to build a subscription based startup and looking for an easy way to implement the idea but Member.ly is not accepting applications yet to use their platform. Anyone know of anything? Need to rebill on a monthly bill.. similar to barkbox.com or craftcoffee.com thanks!

Interesting, I had a very similar idea that I can share my notes with you if you'd like. I would love to share some of the things I learned while researching. I decided to move away from it and focus on another project.
