Reddit’s algo is doing an astonishingly bad job if they want me to stay engaged based on the things I follow. I’ve got two seperate accounts one for general stuff, the other intended strictly for NSFW purposes and meeting people with similar interests. I spent maybe half an hour yesterday on the NSFW account blocking everything that wasn’t in my interests, but more and more unrelated (and general) subreddits kept being recommended to me. After a while of this, I gave up and deleted the app, which I can’t imagine is good for Reddit’s bottom line. I’ll probably be back at some point as it is still in my experience the best way to see that stuff and meet like-minded people, but I was kinda shocked at how difficult (impossible?) it was to just keep one account restricted to specific interests that I do kinda want to be engaged with.
Could you point me toward a source on all that?
Was thinking it might just be a new rite if there weren’t any schisms or majors philosophical differences between fishe and TD (pbuh), but I think Mr. God did tell Terry not to bother with networking, so I think it would qualify as a separate denomination.
Ok, here’s something you probably don’t know. Prince’s album Purple Rain
literally changed the face of music (at least in the US). All those Parental Advisory stickers on the front of albums with “explicit” lyrics are basically the result of Tipper Gore (Al Gore’s former wife) overhearing her daughter singing along to a track on that album, Darling Nikki (don’t listen to it without first listening to Computer Blue (one leads into the other)),in which Prince describes meeting the titular Nikki while she masturbates with a magazine in a hotel lobby.
Tipper wasn’t a fan of this, got together with some other senators’ wives, and now we’ve got those stickers everywhere.
Yeah, I was also wondering about that. My understanding is that ISO standards were necessary in the past to somewhat ensure that multiple implementations of the same language would be compatible with each other, Julia doesn't really seem to have that issue today. Would be very interested to hear of any other benefits.
Now that you mention it, I don’t remember ever really hearing about this stuff before the “meat is a treat” thing started going around. So you’re probably correct about that to some degree.
I kinda doubt there's a ton of overlap between "right wing" twitter and HN, but there's been a decent amount of hate on seed oils (especially soybean oil) over there lately. Here's one of the bigger accounts promoting it in case anyone here'd wanna glance at what those people might be saying:

Very sad to see her go.
Mike Judge's (of King of the Hill and Idiocracy fame) Tales From the Tour Bus episode on her was excellent.
Y’all (the audience, obviously not you in particular) must’ve done something to piss the band off. When I went to see them (and this is well attested to at other shows on their last two tours), they definitely stood around taking pictures of the audience (Tony Levin is also really into photography), with Fripp walking off last. Having said that, Fripp saw someone behind me trying to take a picture during Schizoid Man and stopped playing, shook his head, and wagged his finger until he put the camera away.
Is a site the size of Reddit really susceptible to DDoS attacks? And do you really think anti-mask/vaxers would have the technical ability to do that?
It’s arguably slimmer or arguably better because it didn’t have an OLED? I guess I was under the impression that other than lifetime and pricing, OLEDs were the best displays available right now in terms of quality, efficiency, and thickness.
Bill’s done a lot of stuff that I think is pretty horrible, but could be kinda justified from a business perspective, like embrace, extend, extinguish. But for me, the thing that has always branded him as an irredeemable asshole on a personal level was when he tried to reduce Paul Allen’s share in Microsoft upon learning that he had cancer. I just literally cannot conceive of a “good person” even being able to take that kind of action.

Bill Gates has pretty consistently been a villain, actually...
I think it’s kinda like modern SSDs which also have more states than just on or off per storage cell, but it’s still holding data that can be written/interpreted in binary.
I went into the article expecting someone else to eloquently echo my own thoughts and issues with Apple fucking with my album art, but this is so tame compared to what I’m experiencing.
Basically, anyone who’s ever had a greatest hits compilation seems to get their “actual” studio album art replaced with the art of that compilation album at random.
For example, off the top of my head, when I’m in the album section for Low, “Heroes”, or Lodger (three David Bowie albums with iconic cover art and even better music), the only image on the page is for a different, shitty compilation album that I’ve never owned, listened to, or have any interest in whatsoever.
But things somehow get worse as you’re listening to the album. Each song gets a different cover, seemingly at random. In fact, on “Heroes” alone, an album originally with ten songs (my reissued version has two extra), I have FIVE (5!) different album covers, (one of which is the original, attached to only the fifth, tenth, and bonus songs).
I’m so baffled by this decision and literally cannot conceive of anyone, sane or otherwise, asking for this or even thinking that it’s anything other than the worst possible way to handle album art.
It’s not really a crime to lie to your husband.
Not that I’ve given it tons of thought, but Tesla seems more like the Motorola (thinking of the razr in particular here in that both seem to be more status symbols than anything) to some future innovators on the horizon.
At least read the abstract before commenting, man...
Have you got a link to that article?
And I wonder how much “good” scientists lend their support to not-so-great scientific claims out of fear that refuting them might damage the public’s trust in “science” as a whole.
Any idea where I could read more about Fauci messing up the response to AIDS? I’d always assumed he handled so well that he was the obvious guy to turn to for COVID-19.
Why do you need to test the content of their character...? Is that really necessary for an academic institution? And wasn’t that originally done by the Ivy League (I think Harvard actually started it) to discriminate against Jews who were being accepted at a greater rate than “ideal” Protestants?
In fairness, TikTok and Douyin (mainland China’s version of the app) have no access to each other’s content. It’s totally possible that the CCP allows/mandates different managing styles for the different markets.
I only joined to follow some people from other platforms, so my recommendations were pretty much immediately affected, but stuff from my region has been creeping in lately. Just curious, do you get the feeling that those types of things might be of common interest where you are?
He actually very briefly went by Tom Jones, to the point of doing a photoshoot under that name, before It's Not Unusual came out and forced him to change it again.
