Tautologically, indeed :)

You are absolutely correct. However as a individual decision maker your options are far limited. We should certainly think about economic incentives to address what you point out.

That is a really good question! Not sure if there's sufficient data. But what I'm certain of is that egg freezing can be so much cheaper.

For example, even today, it costs Facebook about 20k per employee per freezing cycle to offer this benefit, where's if you go direct, it can be 5k.

And this is without scale.

Probably true regardless of when they are born, and probably easier if you happen to be older and wealthier ;)

As I point out, your biological ability to have children doesn't diminish. So I don't see why you can't have your 2 or 3 children. There are of course options like surrogates, and other more cutting edge tech enabled options.

And as for energy, the point is to commit to your fitness so that you'll be a very healthy and energetic 50 year old :)

Thanks for your input!

I do want money and success, but more than anything, I want to realize as many of my own dreams as possible, and also more time and space to invest in personal growth.

On fitness - you are right about 'most people' and I my point entirely is that you should resolve to be fit a fit 70 year old and work towards it. This decision might help you in doing so.

According to the latest info, it doesn't look like the system was at fault at all. Seem like the likely homeless woman abruptly stepped into traffic. Every accident still of-course is terrible, but some maybe are unavoidable. https://www.sfchronicle.com/business/article/Exclusive-Tempe...

Loved this:

Richard Feynman was fond of giving the following advice on how to be a genius. You have to keep a dozen of your favorite problems constantly present in your mind, although by and large they will lay in a dormant state. Every time you hear or read a new trick or a new result, test it against each of your twelve problems to see whether it helps. Every once in a while there will be a hit, and people will say: "How did he do it? He must be a genius!"

Congrats on finding a hair-on-fire problem, and totally rooting for you guys. Just 2 weeks back I ordered an aXbo (http://www.axbo.com/axbo/CMS/CMS.aspx?Language=E) for the same purpose, but this is a much more convenient implementation.

Thanks! I'll make sure to check those out.

Mate, I agree with you, I'd do the same if I was writing kernel code. But do you really need to be that isolated while fixing some CSS or running admin tasks? If it's the case that all your work really is that interesting, you are in a very enviable position.
Re:Ask HN: Audio books to listen to while working? on Thursday September 10, 2009 @10:19PM (#816673)
Thanks, right now I'm listening to Marshall Goldsmith and really liking it.

Ask HN: Audio books to listen to while working?

I tend to prefer reading books as opposed to listening to audio books because the level of engagement is far less with the latter. However after getting a big kick out of listening to "Brian Tracy - Maximum Achievement" on a friend's recommendation, I seem to have found the perfect use for motivational audio books. This genre is great to listen to while working because you can just ignore the...

Re:You Do Not Have Health Insurance. on Friday August 07, 2009 @03:00AM (#747190)
"The vast majority of us are, actually, poor. The combination of job loss and serious illness could wipe out almost anyone."

That is why 'you do not have health insurance'. The very fancy employer provided plan I had at one point was no use when I broke my arm after quitting that job to start a start-up.

The role of the government is to be the 'enabler'; what better way is there to enable than to assure you that tripping over a rock won't be the end of everything you dreamed of?

He lost. He failed to take action when it mattered, which could've been bulking up or learning social skills or whatever.

Then he won. Earned a great life, does great work; different day, different game. Should've moved on.

But then he lost again, by leaving the final laugh to any ex-bully who can google.

Re:Wolfram Alpha API (Google Cache) on Friday May 15, 2009 @06:09PM (#611453)
'Wolfram' is a terrible name for a search engine. Many languages around the world do not even use a letter akin to 'w', often using 'v' in place of both 'v' and 'w'. This is one reason for Yahoo's dominance in non-native English speaking countries.

'Wolfram' will be unpronounceable and unmemorable for a large percentage of world's population.

Re:Search Goes Real-Time With Scoopler (YC S08) on Friday May 08, 2009 @11:07AM (#599722)
Going by the current trend, there will only be more real time services in the future. It pays to be early in the game :)
