You don’t know what pressures the teaching staff is under.
Re:Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it on Sunday November 01, 2026 @08:39PM (#50332024)
Why would he call you? AI will propose those new problems instead, and tackle them without any need for your (or any human’s) intervention
Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:59PM (#50279103)
I really liked Bard as a name. IMO it’s much better than Gemini. Not sure why you think they desperately want us to forget it :)

> I love writing code (…). Writing code, however, is daunting, taxing on the mind, takes a lot of mental toll, and you must be in the proper mental space. So if i have a tool, that can take some of that weight off of my mind, so i can focus on the bigger picture, is a good thing.

You clearly don’t love writing code.

> I write code on the train, and in my sleep nowadays

And you don’t write any code. Not in the train, not in your sleep, and probably not in the office either. Having Claude do it for you is not writing code. You wouldn’t claim to be writing code if you had an intern do it while you sleep.

In my experience it is extremely buggy now. For months the “copy link” feature in tweets didn’t work. The video player is broken half the time, and videos get stuck when you try to rewind them.

Also, it is now full of bots and grifters, plus Musk’s own promoted tweets with whatever political thing he’s obsessed with at the moment showing up in everyone’s timelines.

Scores are dropping all around the world. I don’t know why you’re suggesting it’s only happening in the US.
Yeah, because US companies are forced to offer their services in the EU, right? And they definitely don’t do so because it’s incredibly profitable. Plus, the US definitely hates that the EU depends on them for so many things, giving them huge power and leverage.

What a great point you’re making here!

Isn’t Kimi K3.1 pro developed by an AI company?

> You are tying AI usage to bigAI and that is unfounded.

Tell me a single competitive AI model that hasn’t been created by a large AI company. I don’t care if weights are open or not.

> can roll back changes and investigate them

Sure, you can do that, but irreparable harm might have been already caused. Sure, that’s unlikely when your product is an LLM wrapper. But in something like a database, it could be catastrophic.

> One colleague said slowing down does lower your error rate, but mostly because you're doing less of everything

That’s not how rates work

> Apple does not give Withings access to Apple Health's data

What do you mean? My Withings app can access that data without issues

Re:Muse Spark Open on Thursday October 15, 2026 @09:04PM (#50112420)
I’m surprised it had time to “wreck multiple codebases” in the few days it’s been out
Re:Muse Spark Open on Thursday October 15, 2026 @09:00PM (#50112402)
MacOS, even nowadays, has a level of polish and care put into it that nothing you do with opus is going to get close to.
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:32PM (#50080903)
Opus is 2x the price. If it’s more intelligent or not is hard to tell, this model has been out for a day.

> It is mind boggling how difficult it is. I should be able to go to some well known URL, e.g. gemini.com

What’s so complicated about going to gemini.google.com ?

> Why isn't it called Gemini Desktop

There is a Gemini desktop app. Antigravity is for agentic stuff, similar to Codex.

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:10PM (#50080739)
Sounds like you were using the older Gemini 3.1 Pro from February, and not the new release this post is about
> Only now that their job (the elites) has been automated

I’m sorry, are you seriously referring to mathematicians as elites?

> People who weren't in the club and genuinely enjoy math are having the time of their life proving results

If they couldn’t do so before and they can now, it sounds like they don’t understand what their LLMs are producing anyways. That doesn’t sound very fun to me. If they genuinely enjoyed math, maybe they would want to understand it instead of prompting an LLM to do stuff for them?

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:59PM (#49916027)
He’s just wrong, 3.6-flash-lite does not even exist. He definitely has access to regular 3.6 flash.
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:46PM (#49915946)
Aren’t Muse and Dots literally the same as Gemini Spark, which came out months ago?

Search for any recent news and you’ll see this is obviously not the case

Re:Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric on Thursday September 24, 2026 @08:49PM (#49838856)
90% * 60% = 54%, which is still way better than the most efficient internal combustion engines. So even in that case an EV is still better. Plus, it gets greener when the grid gets greener.
Re:Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric on Thursday September 24, 2026 @08:05PM (#49838458)
Very impressive for a combustion engine, but still way worse than the ~90% efficiency of a battery electric car
Re:Audacity 4.0 on Thursday September 03, 2026 @09:06AM (#49549465)
Why do you care so much about the UI framework used?
Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @12:20PM (#49538568)
I don’t know if you’re joking, but I don’t see anything in the linked tweet which suggests that is the case
Re:Hang on to Your Firefox on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @08:22PM (#49530183)
Aren’t Chrome and Firefox also filled with “horrible unsafe C++”?
Re:No AI Fridays on Monday August 31, 2026 @08:12PM (#49516396)
Based on what you’re describing as “your zone”, I would assume you have never experienced the flow state others are talking about. Flow state comes with long stretches of deep, focused work, without context switches or interruptions. This is fundamentally incompatible with what you’re claiming to be “your zone”.
Do you have a source for this being the reason they might remove some troops?
