Oh is that right?

One of the stupidest replies I've read on HN--well done

What are some examples of this extreme and blatantly obvious manipulation? Certainly it happens but you're making it sound like we live in the Truman Show.
And what utility are they extracting, exactly? It's incorrect to assume that a willingness to pay is always indicative of durable underlying value. See every bubble ever, for example.

The real problem in the world of crypto is that it's gone through many boom and bust cycles without real innovation to match. The future of what crypto could deliver is as speculative now as it was five years ago.

Ask HN: Work life after starting companies for entrepreneurs?

I'm looking for feedback from entrepreneurs who have moved on to something new after starting their own company or companies. I'm three companies deep and have decided I don't have another one in me at this point. I'm not interested in taking a CEO position elsewhere or pursuing the more "standard" path of becoming an investor. My strength/passion is in identifying a need and building things...

Re:Show HN: Get Your Audience on the Air with LinesAreOpen on Thursday October 08, 2020 @04:39PM (#24723704)
I created Lines to bring the magic of "listener call-ins" that have been a staple in radio and TV for years to the digital world. I've seen more and more shows incorporating this, but the process is messy (usually involves recording voice memos on your phone and emailing them somewhere, sometimes becoming unmanageable).

With Lines, hosts get a branded landing page that includes a web-based voicemail recorder, plus a unique toll-free number for premium subscribers. All VMs appear on the hosts dashboard for easy management. Messages are transcribed to make them skimmable.

There's a bunch of other stuff.. all with the aim of helping small teams capture the power of this tried and true content channel. If you would like to try it out (or know someone who would like to try it) I'm happy to comp paid plans in return for candid feedback. Just shoot me a message. Thanks for reading!

This was my immediate thought as well. Hilarious.

Ask HN: Free service for scheduling SMS alerts?

Is there a service out there that will send you texts with custom content and designated times? I know strictly speaking this isn't "free" on the backend, but it's low cost enough I thought there might be a free service that covers the cost in another way. My quick Google search turned up only paid options, surprisingly. For example, send a text every Wednesday at 7pm to remind me to take the...

Ask HN: Profitability of a niche mobile app strategy in 2020?

There are plenty of niche categories--at least marginally popular--that have low quality app options across the board.I'm new to mobile development, but am wondering if anyone pursues this as a strategy: Identify underserved category where creating a better mousetrap wouldn't be too difficult. Build, submit, repeat in a new niche.I understand one is at the mercy of the app stores, but if the...

Ask HN: What's the easiest/cheapest way to get mockups converted to HTML/CSS/JS?

Specifically, I'm using Adobe XD, but the same question should apply for Sketch, etc. I know there is a plugin that can do it for XD--partially--but I'm wondering what alternative there is for someone who wants a good front-end codebase that's easy to build off of. Anyone used a service they liked, or some other approach?

Ask HN: How to monetize troves of foot traffic for retailers and other co's?

If one had a way of collecting highly accurate foot traffic data for a representative set of national retailers or other large organizations (casinos or hotels for example), how would one monetize this? Theoretically it could act as a leading indicator of earnings I would guess. Are there any clearing houses or third-parties that specialize is taking and monetizing big, valuable data sets?
