Re:Ask HN: How can a junior dev maximize their income? on Thursday June 08, 2023 @11:14AM (#36243254)
Maximum wealth would come from creating (or being and early member of) a startup that succeeds. This also has high risk, but the worst-case outcome for a paid early employee is still pretty good relative to the average (non-tech) salary.
Not trying to be critical or anything but the design really reminds me of those domain-name parking pages - like this: https://bit.ly/2DRc04H
I prefer the github url fwiw
There's that psychology "helping" us
Who would you prefer own it?
Re:Poll: How do you pronounce “tuple”? on Thursday August 16, 2018 @07:43PM (#17779321)
ah yeah pronounced like "ooper-wayre" right?
Not that this answers the question, but if they're big 5 they should be willing to give you more time. Ask them for a month and see what they say.
You could apply to recurse: https://www.recurse.com/ and use that time to learn react

You could look for contract work to rebuild your skills

I felt it was a reasonable and genuine evaluation by an interested party

Most food packaging measures sodium in mg, so I feel using those units is easier to reason about for most people.
I think IH switched to collecting sign ups too soon -- and they push it too hard. It used to be one of my favourite websites, now I do not visit at all.

If someone made a new version of IH that was more about the content and less about being a business, I would visit often.

I'm in the same situation, and I agree. On some level it could be good for Canada to have all the TN folks back. Maybe bad for us in the short term, but the effects could ripple.

Maybe there should be a log of all headline changes, with a justification so the process can be audited

Why did you choose to host this on gitlab over github?

Ask HN: Computer science heavy fields

I am a fullstack web developer. I write build and manage servers in python, or javascript. I write frontends with any of a host of frameworks. I setup logging, and monitors, and CI/CD pipelines.I slowly refine the process and the product, a little each day.I have a degree in engineering and I rarely if ever use what I learned. Everything I use is backed by core CS, but us consumers needn't even...

I am genuinely surprised that people find this improves their productivity by any significant margin...

Re:Storyboarder: free, cross-platform storyboard tool on Tuesday March 27, 2018 @07:55PM (#16693902)
I found the drawing tools limiting -- I just need 1 brush that has the option to change: - size - opacity - color

Also there are a finite set a pre-defined artboard sizes for some reason.

Well it depends if the thing you are doing makes sense to include Arts or not, if so, call it STEAM otherwise call it STEM -- case by case.
Re:Ask HN: What is your “mission” in work and life? on Saturday March 24, 2018 @10:55AM (#16666878)
Sometimes you have to work on something that's not your mission to give you the time to work on your mission - however infrequently that may then be.

You can still help people in need, just do what you can do.

Nice! Too bad it costs money, otherwise I'd use it.

On some level I feel this question is just here to advertise the poster's project.

I think it would have been better if they had put their project in the comments like everyone else instead of giving themselves more visibility by putting it in the main question.

They may not have intended it this way - but it's possible.

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on and why is it cool? on Friday March 23, 2018 @02:23PM (#16661126)
I'm making a 2D casual/puzzle game similar to scrabble but instead of building chains of letters to form words, you build chains of words that rhyme with each other based off the picture on the tile.

Some tiles have multiple labels. A picture of a cat can be rhymed with bat or hat, buy it can also be a "pet" and rhyme with net, etc.

Can't win a free ETH if you use a simple database.
Re:Nicolas Cage DeepFake on Saturday January 27, 2018 @11:50AM (#16246867)
What is going on in this post? A couple Nick Cages and then 2 scenes of Star Wars where on has a slightly different looking Leila?

Why does the text not simply explain what is going on?
