China is the largest country with one time zone. It is 5 timezones wide. I guess the western part of China is empty enough that there are no cities that are 4 or 5 hours from Beijing.
Re:Decade-old RAM is making a comeback on Sunday October 11, 2026 @08:23PM (#50049656)
Is that common in your area/culture? I have never seen it before. I'm not sure if most people know what you are trying to convey.

What's up with the "V"? I've seen a couple of your comments that have a lone V at the end of the comment or paragraph.

They wrote about restoring a Ithaca model 37 last year. The post is also really good:

When I read "lovely graphics" I was expecting visualizations or images. I was curious so I scrolled through your screenshots and I didn't see any, just a lot of text screens. By graphics did you mean GUI text formatting?
Re:JetKVM Mini on Sunday September 13, 2026 @07:22PM (#49689799)
The original ones came with a USB C Y cable that allowed you to connect to the computer but get power from an alternate USB source. They also have beards on the board for DC power.
That was a style then. It may not be your thing or mine, but it's not puzzling that someone was caught up in a fashion style of the times.
Re:How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @08:27AM (#48905748)
What's the difference between the two usages?

What design trends can be attributed to people's desire to pick up and move at a moment notice?

Fluke has made an acoustic imager for a while now. It is used for detecting leaks:

I think that is the "challenge" with dnsmasq. In addition to caching DNS it also does, dhcp, authoritative DNS, BOOTP and TFTP.
A shot of tequila? Or my team having a shot at winning world series? There are lots of shots.

I never heard anyone say "October Missile Crisis." Did you grow up in Cuba or a Cuban American community?

If this article is interesting to you I highly recommend War of the Whales. It is an interesting look at Cold war science+politics and the environment. A decent part of the book is about SOSUS.

Re:The complete IPv4 address space, mapped on Monday June 08, 2026 @10:46PM (#48455636)
I can't find one /8 that is assigned to boeing. I think your idea of IP allocation is very outdated.
Re:The complete IPv4 address space, mapped on Monday June 08, 2026 @10:34PM (#48455540)
You just listed companies that have one /8 not multiple /8s.
Re:The complete IPv4 address space, mapped on Sunday June 07, 2026 @04:52PM (#48438422)
Do you have any examples of large companies that have multiple /8s but can get away with a /21?
One of my favorite readings from undergrad and grad school was "The Problem of Social Costs" by R. Coase. I'm sorry you think externalities are glossed over by economics, but Im excited to tell you that this is certainly not the case. Coase won the Nobel Prize in economics in large part for his work on externalities. They don't hand out Nobel prizes for glossed over topics. It's definitely worth a read of you wish economics paid more attention to externalities:

I get a 404 when I try and view the CitizenLab report:

There is a "How to opt out" section in TFA.
Re:Filing the Corners Off MacBooks on Saturday April 11, 2026 @08:26AM (#47729985)
The three months difference must be based on a wild corner case. What cities are you basing that statement on?

I played around with weatherspark and all the places I tried looked like this :

It looks like it probably won't matter. The site says you can preorder a DevKit "Shipping between June and September 2025."

The fact that they haven't updated that webpage with new information since October 1st 2025 seems to indicate bad news...

If you think Hollywood content is worthless why bother pirating it at all? It seems like you would just not consume it.
Re:The surprising whimsy of the Time Zone Database on Saturday March 07, 2026 @08:32PM (#47293403)
If you like this there has been a interesting discussion on the tzdb mailing list about how to handle the Vancouver change and the next releases of the tzdb and the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository: https://lists.iana.org/hyperkitty/list/[email protected]/thread/IE...
I was with you until you said California. You think that Californians are understand Southern or Midwestern culture?
Re:GNU Texmacs on Thursday February 26, 2026 @07:45AM (#47165319)
What is toast? I have not heard of it. I thought you wrote pandoc at first.
How many games did you have to throw away because stockfish wanted to castle? Or did you force stockfish to not castle? Castling seems like such a frequent move it is hard to draw any conclusions about the strength of an engine that does not support it.
Re:Notepad++ hijacked by state-sponsored actors on Sunday February 01, 2026 @11:01PM (#46852252)
You have worked for the same company for >55 years? That's wild. Can you share the industry?
