Re:A Screensaver for LG's Spying Smart TVs on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @12:40AM (#49605657)
Does anyone have a set of domains/ips to piehole to prevent such information going out?
This doesn't help. Not everyone has access to the same infrastructure in their home town/country. Let alone the fact that a class at $X AM/PM in the US may be in the late evenings, late nights in their home country.
Re:Amazon’s Shipping Empire Is Challenging UPS and FedEx on Thursday September 05, 2019 @01:40AM (#20884142)
At some point is it possible that Amazon buys UPS or FedEx to boost its own fleet?
Re:Show HN: Hello on Monday August 26, 2019 @05:44AM (#20798476)
There is another similar extension called Momentum https://momentumdash.com/
Re:MLab is being acquired by MongoDB on Wednesday October 10, 2018 @01:42AM (#18182287)
We migrated from Compose to Atlas and their support's been quite good and responsive. Compose was utter crap compared to what Atlas provides.

There's https://send.firefox.com/ as well. Backed by Mozilla.
I'm guessing its some component of their AWS Chime product https://chime.aws/
Re:Dasher: Writing text really fast without typing or speaking on Tuesday December 27, 2016 @05:38AM (#13262409)
People seem to pick up Dasher pick up pretty quickly http://www.inference.phy.cam.ac.uk/dasher/users.html and the demo makes it seem much easier than it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpOxbesRNBc
Re:Dasher: Writing text really fast without typing or speaking on Tuesday December 27, 2016 @05:37AM (#13262404)
This is really awesome. It looks hard, but it isn't. Here's a talk from 2007 that explains it well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpOxbesRNBc
Re:Announcing Quill 1.0 on Tuesday September 06, 2016 @01:48PM (#12437810)
Technically how does Quill compare to Trix? https://trix-editor.org

Is there any blog post on their design/architecture? I couldn't find one.

I ran into the same issue on one of our apps too. Nice to see it written down so thoroughly!
Re:What is the worst thing about working at Microsoft? on Thursday October 10, 2013 @01:41AM (#6525846)
>> It is working at a company that people don’t believe in, despite the immense importance it plays in their daily life.

Very true, Microsoft's business level software does not have as much visibility IMHO. People underestimate the role their software plays.

>> Imagine you got out of that chair for a second. Walked across the street to get a cup of coffee. Got hit by a bus. The ambulance that picks you up? Microsoft. The hospital that saves you? Microsoft. The doctor? Trained at a school running Microsoft, using delicate instruments running Microsoft. If you prefer not getting hit by a bus, think about the role that Microsoft has had in making sure your baby was born healthy.

What role, Windows, SQL Server, Azure? Microsoft may have helped there but so has the janitor who keeps the hospital clean, the barista who makes coffee for the doctors. Doesn't mean I'm going to thank Microsoft for saving my life when I get hit by a bus. This is a valid argument, but a very weak one because Microsoft is one cog in so many that keeps a hospital running.

Rest of the arguments in the article are quite valid, but when some tells me my ambulance is running Microsoft software I have a horrible flashback with a BSOD.

He most likely did:

Re:Warrant for the account of a Lavabit customer on Friday August 09, 2013 @12:36AM (#6183775)
I don't think they're shutting down over this warrant. This warrant doesn't seem to be related to Snowden as it was executed on March 28 - http://ia800908.us.archive.org/9/items/gov.uscourts.mdd.2362... Snowden's expose didn't happen until April/May

It seems a case about Child Pornography - http://ia800908.us.archive.org/9/items/gov.uscourts.mdd.2362...

A Gag order would have come with a National Security related incident

Re:Is Snowden not Being Allowed to Trend on Twitter? on Monday June 24, 2013 @08:37AM (#5932466)
I get 'Edward Snowden' as a tailored trend in the UAE as well

I would avoid Facebook account, too much personal information there. Try twitter, instead.
Re:Ember 1.0 RC3 released on Sunday April 21, 2013 @12:35PM (#5585341)
I just upgraded, and it seems quite snappy. Definitely see the performance upgrades working. Good job Ember team!
try 99 designs.com for a logo design. There seems to be some good talent there.
I'm using FF 3 and can't see this page. So much for user-agent sniffing.
Re:Ask YC: Mac Text Editors on Friday May 16, 2008 @03:43PM (#192164)
The learning curve for Vim, Emacs is much higher than textmate. If you can afford to buy Textmate, then do so. It is well worth the money and will increase your productivity.
