I've only tried the Shopify forums, creating posts, replying to people. Was thinking about starting a facebook ad campaign but I don't know how effective that would be.

Ask HN: Cheap Internet marketing for bootstrapped Shopify app startup

I've just created a new app for Shopify. What I really want to find out is if there is a cheap internet marketing company that can do the marketing for me. I think it basically needs forum posting etc. I'm not trying to promote my app here, I just need some marketing advice on how to get some users! My app has some competitors but also has some real differences that will add value to eCommerce...

Hey thanks! I haven't got any experience with reddit but I have heard that you can upset them easily. I will look at some of the other posts to get an idea of what is suitable.

StumbleUpon is a great idea! I used to use that all the time. Didn't cross my mind to use it. Thanks

good point. I guess none of the items are really themed. But we could possibly add some themed artwork on the picture?

Yeah we have purchased it. Hasn't come though yet apparently. I will chase that up. Thanks

Not a lot! Struggling with marketing at the moment. We are running multiple facebook ads and we are about to approach our local newspaper. Not sure what else to do. Google Ads?

Just facebook at the moment. Any other ideas?

Yeah the 14 offers sold is just to make the website not look like a ghost town. Put some activity on it.

That's great feedback on the sidebar thanks.

We wanted to make ours more fun for the buyer and have a 'theme'. All our marketing has been aviation themed, such as "fly in for a great deal".

At this stage we kind of went broad, having a bit of everything to see which products sold more. We are a little limited to what our suppliers have at this stage. But the prices are still cheap

Ok guest checkout is a good idea, totally overlooked that. Thanks.

With the homepage do you mean just have the single deal. And remove the deals on the side?

If you wouldn't mind I would love some feedback on this. I haven't made a sale yet and I am not sure why.

ANY feedback is appreciated!

quote - "(can you target by people who have posted a link to an ebay item?)" That's a great idea.

Your first two points are slowly dawning on me, I removed the people who liked ebay filter, and I seem to be getting more clicks now, however still no signups (but that is another issue!).

I posted on the eBay forum. It was really, really effective!!.. until I received a warning from ebay to stop and the post was removed. However, as you say, there must be other forums where sellers hang out. I will get my google on. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the great advice and examples. It all seems to make perfect sense when someone spells it out for you. I spoke to one of my friends on the weekend and they said the same thing about facebook, "they are there for entertainment". But thanks for taking it one further with the ad words keywords like "ebay fee calc", I think I can start to get the hang of it!

I'll go first. I've updated the ad here are the words.

Title: Always sell the hot items

Content: The most current list of best selling products on auction sites. Selling hot products easy

and you can see the updated ad here: http://devcomsystems.com.au/fb_ad2.png

I struggle to think "would I click on this?" because I never click on any ads!

Again, any help would be MOST appreciated!

Ask HN: Market to ebay sellers

Hi,First, some context: I launched my web app a few days ago. My target market is eBay sellers. My app is a tool for them to find out which products are the most popular at the moment. The Problem: No one has clicked on my ad. Not 1 person! Now I'm no marketeer, but I am extremely motivated to learn! I decided that the best way to target my market is to use facebook. I've used the parameters...

Ask HN: What's your blog?

So along the lines of a "Ask HN: What's your startup", I'm sure a lot of us have blogs that we write on that don't get a lot of exposure. So link your blog here with a short description about your topics.I'll go first: http://devcomsystems.com.au/blog Main topic at the moment is documenting the journey of building a web app for the web app challenge. Creating a $5k/mo web app in 6 months.
