Re:Why the AfD Wins on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:49PM (#49602854)
much of it can be expressed via this visual which made the rounds a few years ago

the topics have different emphasis than in the US, but the principle remains. immigration, de-industrialization, green politics, erosion of trust based society

iCIMS for applicant tracking, I can deal with any other backoffice system but not this one
Edge is easy to switch to and could be a great way to break the Chrome dominance.

Safari also started catching up over the last 2 years

Do you have any good resource summarizing these laws?
Re:Ask HN: How did my LastPass master password get leaked? on Tuesday December 28, 2021 @03:21AM (#29711631)
There is such a counter, CVE databases.

If you would actually take a look, you would realize you are spreading FUD.

phpBB has been rewritten from scratch around 2008 with phpBB3 and hasn't had a single severe vulnerability since. That's 13 years.

Re:Ask HN: How much equity should an early employee get? on Monday November 15, 2021 @02:29AM (#29224763)
If few and several come from Heroes III terminology, few would be 1-4, several would be 5-9.
Because this puts an individual with limited resources at a great disadvantage to corporations
Re:Docker Desktop no longer free for large companies on Tuesday August 31, 2021 @02:53PM (#28371997)
But what minikube backend are you using for this? The preferred one is Docker and all the others are also paid on Mac.

From a skim read of both blog posts it's still impossible to understand what's actually new in this version. Just introduce the features in the post, no?

Re:Why Rocket Internet has come down to earth on Thursday September 24, 2020 @05:16PM (#24583766)
Look at their global results, Europe is largely irrelevant compared to APAC and MENA. Germany exit was loss of prestige losing home market but also not a major loss of revenue compared to gains elsewhere in the world.
Re:The nightmare that colleges face this fall on Saturday May 30, 2020 @02:35AM (#23359020)
There’s an old story about a guy taking a smoke break with his non-smoking colleague.

“How long have you been smoking for?” the colleague asks.

“Thirty years,” says the smoker.

“Thirty years!” marvels the co-worker. “That costs so much money. At a pack a day, you’re spending $1,900 a year. Had you instead invested that money at an 8% return for the last 30 years, you’d have $250,000 in the bank today. That’s enough to buy a Ferrari.”

The smoker looked puzzled.

“Do you smoke?” he asked his co-worker.

“No.”

“So where is your Ferrari?”

Czechia gives you options from 1-3y (fixed total cash amount, let's you choose speed). And employer must keep a job for you when you come back.
And even longer up to 3y if you are part time (Elterngeld Plus). Keeps you connected to your job but allows you to raise your kids.
Re:AWS EC2/RDS Outage in us-east-1 on Saturday August 31, 2019 @03:54PM (#20848449)
Your us-east-1f is not the same one as on other accounts. The letter is randomly assigned to the AZ to spread load.
Uh, no? The idea is to have a full featured object mapping layer that can work with multiple database backends.

Doing mapping of db result sets to object is non trivial, no need to do develop it multiple times for each RDMBS when 90% of the code would overlap.

I'd work on the sarcastic attitude though

The loss comes from variable costs, not fixed costs.

Early on, they hoped to become monopolies and raise prices, reaching profitability.

Your personal home use case of Office is not really relevant here. Good luck organizing a huge company on that.
Re:Pirate Party Leader to Be Prague mayor on Friday October 26, 2018 @06:51AM (#18308131)
There's a joke going on that the Pirate Party is the IT department of the communist party.

In general the trouble with Pirates is unpredictability. They are very socially liberal, but economically and geopolitically they attract a wide mix of opinions. The have a higher incidence of conspiration theorist, they have a strong anti-US base, and in general they avoid to address these topics since it cannot pass the internal voting that is part of their control structure. In communal politics it does not have so severe implications, so the biggest question is how fit he is managerial wise.

The new mayor was virtually unknown before the election, it's just a gamble at this moment and everybody is "let's wait and see, can't be worse than the previous arrogant mayor Krnacova from ANO"

Delivery Hero, last-mile logistics | Scala Engineer | Berlin, Germany | ONSITE, Full-time, extensive VISA/relocation support

We're the last mile logistics team of Delivery Hero. We power algorithmic dispatching in over 40 countries. Re:Bitwarden – Open Source Password Manager on Wednesday July 11, 2018 @02:44AM (#17504919)
This is an AWS Serverless version which can run pretty much completely in Free Tier and you have HA out of the box https://github.com/vvondra/bitwarden-serverless
How is it different from maven deps?
