Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @03:20PM (#43209956)
After this meeting I have no doubts that President Krasnov theory is real.
Very interesting. This longevity aspect frequently comes up in the Wii U modding community. It is tempting to plug in a simple USB stick to store the game files, but, because of the intense read/write nature, it is deemed to be prone to failure. Recently use of high-endurance SD cards has grown, but some say it is still not as safe as an external HDD. It would be interesting to hear thoughts from someone more experienced about the safest storage option as the last thing you want is for your save files to get corrupted.
Re:Hacking the Nintendo DSi Browser on Friday March 03, 2023 @05:21PM (#35015843)
DSi is my favourite console for older Nintendo games. Custom firmware gives access to the DS library and it emulates GBA well.
Re:Smartphones wiped out 97% of the compact camera market on Friday December 02, 2022 @01:02PM (#33834146)
X100V is super-hard-to-find-right-now, I have an older version X100T and I am very pleased. It is basically the camera that pros using the huge DSLRs everyday reach for when they go on their own holidays or leisure trips. And it's value has nearly doubled in the two years I had it, unheard of in the field of consumer electronics.
Re:Apple is discontinuing the iPod on Wednesday May 11, 2022 @07:50AM (#31338512)
It is nice to have a dedicated device that sits next to the amp and know that it can provide a Hi-Res audio signal that is as good as it gets.

I have a Sony NW-A45, but there's a few models in the NW-A line-up that are attention worthy.

Re:Apple is discontinuing the iPod on Wednesday May 11, 2022 @07:35AM (#31338402)
I'm quite pleased with my Sony NW-A45. I miss the ability to rate songs, but I understand it is much better than the Android based alternatives.
Re:EU Demands Interoperable Messaging on Friday March 25, 2022 @09:30AM (#30801910)
Would replacing SMS with RCS solve this? So far Apple has been very reluctant to implement it.
In my case for a personal email account I'll try DNS email forwarding:

Re:In Japan, digicams are the new film on Monday January 17, 2022 @04:05PM (#29971683)
It can become an expensive hobby but Canon Sure Shot Max is a blast from the past.
Re:Game-makers creating new Game Boy games (2021) on Sunday January 16, 2022 @06:59PM (#29961777)
Haha, I learned to solder a few weeks ago just to get my Emerald cartridge to run properly. I couldn't stop taking pictures of how beautiful Links Awakening DX was. I'd say DS also has a few games worthy of your attention.
Have you lost access to the associated Gmail account too?

Thinking I might have too many eggs in one basket.

Film photography is certainly the best hobby that I've picked up during the lockdown. Try getting some vintage lenses and mounting them on a digital camera via an adapter for great results too.
Re:Show HN: Make my screen black on Monday December 20, 2021 @08:48AM (#29624871)
Very cool!

More colour choices would be great. Sometimes I use my second screen just for face illumination during video calls. I found that ft.com salmon-pink is one of the better choices.

Re:Smartphones Are a New Tax on the Poor on Thursday December 16, 2021 @11:00AM (#29579516)
The real issue is the unaffordability of data plans in the US.

More prevalent use of dual sim phones would also help - I get all the data from my work sim, but most of my calls are made on the personal one.

I can't be the only one who just bought a 4K blu-ray player. The cost of a disc is cheaper than a monthly subscription and I can still trade them in making it a cracking good deal. And quality is soo much better than streaming, literally made me move my sofa a little closer to TV!
Re:US Series I Savings Bonds Now Yielding 7.12% on Monday November 01, 2021 @11:01AM (#29067474)
If you manage to borrow 10k from somewhere else at 3% APR and invest here you're getting 410 risk free. Unfortunately it is capped at 10k...

The embargo is imposed until Monday 25th October 2021 [1]. I will be staying away from that pre-order button until then.

Re:iPhone 13 Pro camera review: Tanzania on Friday September 24, 2021 @11:34AM (#28643808)
The telephoto pictures really highlight the shortcomings of small optics... I think he will have to buy the Iphone 14 Pro now.
Re:How Does FaceTime Work? on Friday August 20, 2021 @11:22AM (#28247074)
Just three days ago I've set up my 93 year old grandfather on a Lenovo Smart Display 7. I think it has multiple benefits over an iSomething: - Always plugged in - no need to remember to charge - Shows our family picture albums that I can remotely update via my Google Photos - It is loud. Left the volume at 3/4 - Sits on a table and you're never holding it wrong™ - No settings to mess up, two previous tablets were too complicated
Re:A Storage Crisis on Thursday July 15, 2021 @06:25AM (#27843201)
This is the way!

I recently got into film photography and the 36 pictures I get from the lab after a weekend or two make me so much more happier than 6 frames per second that my Fuji does.

Re:Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated? on Monday May 10, 2021 @12:38PM (#27107921)
Such a great answer! Thank you. I've just bought a Planar 50/1.7 last month and can't wait for the scanned negs to come back any minute now.
Re:Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated? on Monday May 10, 2021 @12:07PM (#27107584)
Unfortunately these are now nearly impossible to find without spending silly money... Where did you acquire yours?

Re:LineageOS 18.1 on Thursday April 01, 2021 @10:23AM (#26660828)
Usually they list other supported ROMs on XDA Forum, but a quick check there indicates to me that there are no AOSP ROMs for A50. It is likely due to it using Exynos chip which requires use of proprietary drivers.
Re:LineageOS 18.1 on Thursday April 01, 2021 @07:34AM (#26659128)
OnePlus devices have been always recommended on their Reddit, but personally I've been using a Xiaomi Mi 8 for nearly 2 years with no issues.
